Measured the rimless tank and it’s a 5.5 gallon All lights and filters work still have to test heaters and haven’t tested the tank but needs a good cleaning and hopefully there are no leaks but even if there is like filters and lights are expensive so worth the buy!

2025.01.20 17:50 DanishAxolotl101 Fitness requirements for the army

Hi! Im 14 and (obviously) have zero experience with the actual armed forces, and was curious about the army. Although I do go to CCF ive heard it doesn't teach you much more than nsps and drill. What I wanted to ask what general fitness requirements for the army were. I dont mean minimum requirements because I know theyre lax and I can do them, but what I need to be able to do (in terms of pushups and pull ups) to keep up with an infantry career?

“The Snow Queen”. How Andersen turned a pagan myth into a Christian story
The devil's mirror, roses and ice. How do we unravel these symbols from “The Snow Queen”? What ancient legends, devoid of light and hope, formed its basis? And what did Andersen add to them to make readers feel that Light has returned to the world - both in the fairy tale and in the present? Let's find out together with Andrei Korovin - PhD on Philological Sciences, Senior Researcher at the Gorky Institute of World Literature of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Maria ASHIHMINA, Andrei KOROVIN
A bit of history
Many will probably be surprised, but fairy tales as we know them today, appeared not so long ago. In fact, it was only in the 19th century in Europe that fairy tales took on a familiar shape and found a resonance in the hearts of both adults and children of different classes.
In 1812 in Germany, a collection of folk tales by the Grimm brothers “Children's and Family Tales” was published. As we remember, in the strict sense, Wilhelm and Jacob Grimm did not write a single fairy tale. German philologists collected folk tales and did editorial work on them. Before that, folktales were considered something low and unworthy and were of little interest to anyone, especially in educated circles. However, the Grimm brothers are credited with giving this genre a new life.

A few decades later, Hans Christian Andersen's “Fairy Tales Told to Children” is published in Denmark. It seems that Andersen is acting on the example of the famous German authors. However, it is not quite so. Or even not at all. If we look closely at the second collection, New Fairy Tales, we see the subtitle at the Snow Queen: “A Fairy Tale in Seven Stories.” And later Andersen himself would say, “Story is a more appropriate word for the works I write.” What does that mean?
Unlike the Brothers Grimm, Hans Christian Andersen not only skillfully collects and uses folk stories, but also develops his own. He brilliantly owns the primary sources: Scandinavian legends, tales, myths. However, no less brilliantly Hans Christian reworks the basis for himself and fills it with a special philosophy. The author promotes his own meanings, which are important to him personally. What are these meanings? Let's find out on the example of the fairy tale “The Snow Queen”.
Devil's mirror
The “Snow Queen” has two story centers. The first is the story of a magic mirror, which is created by “a troll, a wickedly evil mirror; it was the devil himself". All that is good and beautiful in the mirror is distorted, all that is lowly and disgusting becomes uglier. The trolls are amused by this. “Only now,” they said, ”can one see the whole world and people in their true light!”
https://preview.redd.it/se34jg0sq6ee1.png?width=589&format=png&auto=webp&s=37976c687475d8a1e03cd2ff48a0d93eaffc97cb
The trolls wanted to make fun of the angels and God. They raised the mirror to the heavens, but it fell to the ground. Shards of the mirror hit some people in the eyes and some in the heart. The souls of such people became like a piece of ice. Or such people began to “see only bad sides in every thing”.
It is known that Andersen wrote the story of the mirror long before the adventures of Kai and Gerda. Initially, these stories were not connected in any way. And only after a few years, the writer came up with a story about children and attached to it the part about the devil's mirror. Thus came the “Snow Queen” that we know.
The story of Kai and Gerda
Kai and Gerda live in the attics of neighboring houses. They are not related, but they love each other like brother and sister. The children play together among the roses that grow on the roof.
https://preview.redd.it/iwja0w5tq6ee1.png?width=700&format=png&auto=webp&s=bbaa707012e4827de472e9a23c8df159415798be
One day trouble happens. “Ouch!” cried the boy suddenly. - I got a prick right in my heart, and something got in my eye!” Kai is struck by a shard of the devil's mirror. We remember what follows. The boy begins to be rude to Gerda, to mock his grandmother and the neighbors. After a winter walk, he disappears. The girl goes to look for him.
Gerda goes to rescue Kai from the icy captivity. What is Gerda's movement toward the Snow Queen's kingdom? The journey she takes is a return to the land of ice. And this is quite a traditional motif inherent in Scandinavian mythology. It is not quite obvious to us today, but in the mid-nineteenth century, any adult reader of Andersen had a parallel with the story of the mythological god Baldr.
Baldr in Scandinavian pagan beliefs is the god of love, goodness and light, who perishes. And he perishes in the strangest way. His mother, the wife of Odin, the supreme god of the Scandinavians, the goddess Frig, takes an oath from all living and non-living things that no one will harm her son. Only mistletoe, a liana that parasitizes other trees, does not take the promise. The plant seems too infirm to kill.
https://preview.redd.it/zrd34dduq6ee1.png?width=700&format=png&auto=webp&s=6db68b7a9d286da67b821af3a880f1f6437553e8
One day the gods amused themselves by throwing objects at Baldr, but he remained unharmed. But among the gods, there was a villainous god, Loki. This god gave birth to the monsters with whom the gods-ases will meet in the last battle, when the end of the world - Ragnarök will come. On the one hand, he is the helper of the gods. On the other, Loki is cunning and brings an element of destruction to the world. Knowing that mistletoe did not promise not to harm Baldr, he puts a sprig of the plant in the hands of the blind god Höd. The latter throws the mistletoe and kills Baldr. The god of light finds himself in the netherworld.
There are nine worlds in ancient Scandinavian mythology. The lowest and scariest is the realm of the old woman Hel. From her name reads the English word "hell". Niflheim is the hell of the ancient Scandinavians, where cold, darkness and ice reign. That's where Baldr finds himself. He must be rescued - the world cannot exist without light.
https://preview.redd.it/7v5eqgffs6ee1.png?width=697&format=png&auto=webp&s=f18cb771c7ed5a56a9d2dd57853b9ba2235090c8
Baldr's brother Hermod is sent to hell on a magic horse. Hel is ready to let the god go, but with a condition: everyone in the upper world must mourn him. But Loki turns out to be a giantess who does not mourn Baldr. The god remains in Niflheim until the twilight of the gods - Ragnarök. In the last battle all the gods of the Ases will die, but Baldr and the blind Höd will return to the world. They will rule the new world.
With the advent of Christianity, the ancient Scandinavian plot is conceptualized in a new way. The image of Baldr in the once pagan culture begins to be associated with Christ, because Baldr is not only the god of good and light, but dying and resurrecting god. The Christian message of Christ's crucifixion and resurrection lies on prepared ground. The story of Kai and Gerda refers precisely to this ancient Scandinavian plot. But unlike the myth, Gerda manages to rescue Kai from icy captivity.
Journey through the worlds
So, Gerda goes in search of Kai, who is captured by the element of ice. But essentially the element of hell. If you look closely, Gerda's movement comes from the top down. It's a journey through spaces where other laws work. And they are fundamentally different from those under which Gerda and Kai and their grandmother live. The girl is not just rescuing a friend, but traveling through worlds.
Gerda descends from under the roof of the house and finds herself next to a river. She thinks that Kai has drowned and tries to exchange her friend for her slippers. In mythology, the river traditionally symbolizes the boundary between the worlds of the living and the dead. The river does not accept Gerda's sacrifice. Then the girl gets into a boat and moves on.
https://preview.redd.it/gor19a2es6ee1.png?width=696&format=png&auto=webp&s=7d28f6e6b0930034be89aad9823167a5429f310d
The next world where Gerda finds herself is the garden of a woman who can do magic. Magic is a perfectly normal thing in this world. Gerda accepts it, although it is strange and weird to her. By trickery, the old woman leaves Gerda to live with her. To keep her from remembering Kai, the sorceress destroys all the roses in the garden. She forgets only one - the one in her hat. In this plot there is a folklore motif of overcoming obstacles. In order to find what is lost, one must go through trials. Gerda passes this test. She sees the rose on her hat and remembers the purpose of her journey.
“Do you know where Kai is?” - asks the girl to the flowers in the garden. Instead of answering, each plant shares a story with Gerda. The first is from the fire lily. She tells of a blazing bonfire in India where a living widow is burned with her dead husband. “The flames engulf her and the body of her dead husband, but she thinks of him alive - of him whose gaze burned her heart stronger than the flames that will now sizzle her body.”
https://preview.redd.it/acm06h9hs6ee1.png?width=700&format=png&auto=webp&s=383320e55d7079fbc23644a84559da96ccaee117
Gerda doesn't understand the story and moves on. This is understandable: she is a little girl who has not grown up to such stories. But Andersen's adult reader is imbued with the story of tragic love. Asking about Kai, Gerda listens to the stories of a creeper, a snowdrop, a hyacinth, a dandelion. Each time the stories get simpler and simpler. But none of the flowers have seen Kai.
A kingdom without love
A girl gets on a reindeer and enters the realm of the Snow Queen, the old woman Hel. Is it evil? No. It's another world with its own laws. Gloomy, cold, unfeeling and lifeless. What remedy can break those laws? The Lord's Prayer, recited by Gerda.
https://preview.redd.it/cdybucpis6ee1.png?width=700&format=png&auto=webp&s=ab15c2ff02c04332481807c4fdbcc0e21f6cd710
“Gerda began to recite the Lord's Prayer; it was so cold that the girl's breath now turned into a thick fog. This fog grew thicker and thicker, but now small, light angels began to emerge from it, and when they set foot on the ground they grew into large, formidable angels with helmets on their heads and spears and shields in their hands. The number of them kept increasing, and when Gerda had finished her prayer there was a whole legion of them around her. The angels took the snow bogeymen on their spears, and they scattered into thousands of snowflakes. Gerda could now go forward boldly; the angels stroked her hands and feet, and she was no longer so cold...”
https://preview.redd.it/lic06mujs6ee1.png?width=676&format=png&auto=webp&s=336094dac5d13cdac06cc533c7b2e978c2ae5a2b
This is how Christianity conquers the ice. It conquers that which is born of antiquity and darkness. Gerda finds Kai trying to put the word “eternity” together for a reward from the Snow Queen. “If you put the word together, you will be your own master, and I will give you all the world and a pair of new skates.”
Kai can't put the coveted word together. Why not? Because ice isn't eternal. It's melting. Ice is just an illusion of eternity. Eternity is something that has to do with spirituality. But the Snow Queen does not know such a category, because she is devoid of poetry and love. Frost, ice, lack of goodness and love are not eternal. What is eternal is what Christianity brings: God is love (1 Jn 4:16). Gerda finds Kai, but he is cold. Then she cries. Her tears drown the splinter in her heart, and the word folds itself. Love proves to be stronger. The spell of the devil's mirror is broken by a sincere and fervent prayer.
https://preview.redd.it/7hyvldzks6ee1.png?width=700&format=png&auto=webp&s=c0fe66c7b765296a1fd6709d41206aa286776bd5
“The Snow Queen” is the story of Christ's coming into the world. It is no coincidence that the fairy tale repeatedly quotes a psalm by the eighteenth-century Danish poet Brorson: “Roses are blooming in the valleys, / The Christ Child is here with us!” Roses, as a symbol of life and Christianity, are contrasted with the dead world of snow and ice of the Snow Queen. But the meaning of these lines Kai and Gerda do not immediately understand. They leave home as children and return as adults. It turns out that the spaces in which the children have been, are separated from each other not only by borders. They are separated by time.
https://preview.redd.it/m2ug8w3ms6ee1.png?width=700&format=png&auto=webp&s=f0609939430c1c787a052accf6164ff9f4d7d804
To understand what true love is, a person must not only go a long way. He needs to grow up. At the end of the tale, the grandmother reads the Gospel to Kai and Gerda: Unless you turn and be like children, you will not enter the Kingdom of Heaven (Matthew 18:3). There is wise counsel in these terms. Children carry love within them, but they do so unknowingly. As an adult, it is important to retain the childlike ability to give love. But love that is meaningful. And such love comes only with experience.

2025.01.20 17:50 Comfortable_Fox_6201 Should I attend an in-person gathering as a remote employee?

Hi everyone, I recently started a new job at a startup company, working remotely. Everything’s been going well so far, but now they’re planning an in-person social gathering. It’s meant to help us get to know each other, share moments, work together face-to-face, and meet the CTO in person.
Here’s the thing—I’m not a very social person, and I’m definitely not fond of traveling. I live with my fiancé and our two dogs, and I honestly just enjoy being at home. The idea of traveling alone to meet coworkers I’ve only known for less than a month makes me anxious. I asked my fiancé if he’d join me, even though he wouldn’t be involved in the work events, just to feel more comfortable. However, that creates another problem: we’d have no one to take care of our dogs.
Dog care homes aren’t an option because our dogs don’t do well around other dogs, and no one in my family is willing to take on the responsibility of watching them. So now I’m stuck wondering if I should go at all.
Part of me is considering making up an excuse, like saying I have a relative’s birthday, but I worry this might reflect badly on me, especially since I’m still new at the job. At the same time, I really don’t feel good about the travel and the whole situation.
Do you think skipping the event would hurt my standing at work? Or is it okay to politely decline, given my circumstances? Any advice would be appreciated!

2025.01.20 17:50 jcarmona86 From Journalist to Salesforce Expert: Can I Turn My Tech Knowledge into Freelance Writing Gold?

Quick background: Former journalist who pivoted during the '08 recession, became a Salesforce consultant (12 certs), and taught at NYU. I've got: - Technical expertise in Salesforce - Teaching experience (helped 160+ start careers) - Strong writing foundation (journalism degree) - Experience with both federal and nonprofit sectors - Security clearance (rare in tech writing)
I'm seeing a gap in the market for quality Salesforce content. Most tech writing in this space feels... corporate and dry. But I'm wondering:

  1. Is there a real market for Salesforce/CRM content writing?
  2. Where would you focus: blogs, technical documentation, training materials?
  3. How do you price technical writing vs standard content?
My biggest question: Am I crazy for wanting to blend my journalism roots with my tech expertise?
Would love insights from anyone who's carved out a niche in technical writing, especially in the CRM/SaaS space.

2025.01.20 17:50 chaoticmlkhotel Looking for citizenship advice

I am in what I feel is a fairly complicated situation regarding my entitlement to Irish citizenship. My dad was born in Scotland to an Irish woman who, from what I have been told, was born in Ireland then immigrated to Scotland. However, she gave my dad up for adoption and he was adopted by my Scottish grandparents, and so never received Irish citizenship. Since I have a biological grandparent who was born in Ireland and was an Irish citizen, I believe I am entitled to Irish citizenship myself. However, due to the circumstances, I do not have access to my biological grandmother's birth certificate and we have never been in contact with her or any family members. Does anyone know if there is any way for me to get the necessary paperwork to apply for citizenship, or if there are any other forms of paperwork I could use in lieu of my grandmother's birth certificate?
