Hey everybody, so I have a 2012 a5 Quattro with the 2.0T. I'm looking for a little insight.
I've driven this car a lot and currently have around 125k miles on it. I'm looking to make more power with it. With such high mileage, I know I can't just slap a bigger turbo and a die pipe and call it a day, so I'm planning on doing major engine work. Here's my problem though. Would it be worth it to swap the engine to the 4.2L V8? Or should I stick with the 2.0T. I have swapped engines before but nothing German and I don't know what that would entail with German engineering. If I kept the same engine, I would completely rebuild it, most likely sleeve the block and run forged internals. What do you think would be the most beneficial. Also, if I keep the same engine, What should I do to the transmission to be able to hold that amount of power?
Would love some input!

Let me start this post with how exhausted I am. I just want to have one day when I can go anywhere quiet and take a good 10 hours nap😂😭 my LO is 7 months now and it’s getting harder and harder every day. I took one year mat leave and will be back to work very soon. How do women cope with work and a baby!? A part of me doesn’t want to give her to daycare so early, but the other part of me wants to go back to a normal life I used to have..work, socializing etc. but it’s also scare sh*t out of me to do both LOL work and being a mom. Oh god I’m just exhausted

2025.01.20 20:43 diamondskindx Paying off mortgage early or saving for kids college?
Hi all, seeking advice on how to prioritize some competing savings goals.
Background: early 30s, DI2K (both under 5), HHI 250k, MCOL, current invested assets ~$800k. Adding $80k/year to retirement accounts. Hope to reduce working hours in about ten years and and fully retire in 15-20, depending on how we feel about our jobs, our financial situation, and our kids' financial situations. Goal is ~$2M in today's dollars with a paid off house, and not counting college savings for kids.
In the next few years, as kids finish up daycare we'll have an increased cash flow (extra 2500/month starting in September 2026 and another ~2500/month starting in September 2028). We feel good about our current retirement savings rate, so we'd like to put this cash flow towards two other savings goals:
- pay off mortgage, currently $380k at 6.6%, house value is ~$570k, 27.5 years left. Principle and interest is $2600/month. Would ideally like to be paid off by the time we fully retire/kids out of house for our own peace of mind.
- save for college, currently have nothing put aside. We'd like to be able to pay for whatever reasonable educational goals they have and are using 4 years of private school as a benchmark. I know not everyone agrees with this much support, but that's not a topic I'm looking to discuss today.
We have a shorter time horizon for college savings, and I feel like we're already behind. There's lots unknown; kids could get full scholarships or not go to college at all or want to do expensive undergrad + expensive grad school. We are nervous about overfunding a 529 AND about coming up short. If we were short, we would likely take out Parent Plus loans (more favorable terms than a HELOC) or would have them take loans upfront and help pay back.
If we step back from our jobs in ~10 years as planned, we would have less income but would put less towards retirement, hopefully evening out.
So what's a FIRE family to do? Is it optimal to pay off the mortgage first since we know that expense and wait on the college savings until that cost is more clear? Split the difference and put some money towards each goal? Just save it all in a brokerage and wait to decide what to do with it? Your insights are very appreciated!

So I was basically headhunted for a role by a junior recruiter. I had a phone call with her and she then forwarded me to her manager (the main recruiter for the role). I had an interview with him and he then told me about the next coming steps: 1 interview with manager and then an interview with managing director. He later contacted me to tell me that these two interviews will be on the same day so it will be 2 hours. After that I did a personality test and had a shorter interview (45 min with HR). The manager, who had previously interviewed me, reached out to me and said they wanted one more interview asap where they wanted me to prepare for a business case. So I had an interview with the manager (again) and a second manager in another department. They told me it’s between me and another candidate and asked for my references, whom they called today.
I still haven’t gotten an answer and am overtaken by the anxiety at this point. Is it normal to check two candidates references and could I just be the runner up at this point?

I've been seeing this on Reddit a whole lot lately and it bothers me to no end. I can't stand copy/paste speak on social media such as:
"Tell me X without telling me X"
But this new one where someone says something, and then a commenter challenges it by saying a counterpoint and then adding: ", no?" annoys me to no end. It comes off as such a condescending way to disagree with someone. I know it's not new but it seems to be catching on in the online vernacular lately
Kind of a shitty way to have a discussion, no?
