I saw an older coworker post on FB about an estate sale they were having for a family member who was going into long term care. They were downsizing and selling off a lot of property, washers, fridges, farm equipment, and a few cars. They had a 2018 Camry and 2022 Civic- both had mileage on the higher end but were priced low, $4000 and $6000 respectively.
I have an 2001 Camry that runs perfectly fine, but have been keeping an eye out for an upgrade. After reaching out and some back and forth, she says that she won’t be back in town until the 30th, so I wouldn’t be able to view it until then, but that she requires a deposit to “hold” the car and if I don’t like it or want it, it’s completely refundable.
I’ve sold stuff on FB and marketplace before and know how annoying it can be. People jerk you around, leave you on read, and set up showings and ghost you. I thought it would be $50, maybe $100, MAX $200, just to confirm serious buyers.
She wanted $1000 deposit. A fourth of the cost of the Camry. After I asked what the deposit would be and she told me, she immediately started bombarding me with back to back messages, asking what form of payment I would be doing and when I would be sending it. As soon as I didn’t respond immediately, she started sending “????”. I told her I needed some time to think about it, and immediately reached out to my dad. He’s done private sales for all his own cars and all of mine and my siblings growing up. He said never ONCE has he had anyone ask for a deposit. He said the majority of the time, he’d let them know he would come cash in hand and if he liked it and inspected it, he’d buy it same day, and that was it. That coupled with how pushy she got after I asked what the deposit was immediately sent red flags for the both of us.
I ended up telling her that I would reach back out after she got back in town because 10+ days was a long time to wait to see the car if I was going to put that much down and that if it was still available then, we could revisit the offer. She immediately started spamming me with messages, saying she could have someone else take me to see it, and that the deposit was “completely refundable if you don’t like it” and “didn’t you see it in my post, it’s refundable.” At that point, I just let her know I was no longer interested and wished her good luck.
This feels like a scam, but I don’t know how she would benefit off of it.

2025.01.21 02:13 Sweetpodwl Halfway through book 5. Unresolved questions from previous books (spoilers)
I'm halfway through book 5, The Fires of Heaven, and loving every chapter of it. This might be my favourite book so far. I have compiled a list of unresolved questions from previous books below. Would appreciate some answers unless I'm not supposed to know and it will be revealed later. Thank you
1) I don't truly understand the Eye of the World. It was a reservoir of the true source? It just doesn't seem to fit in at all with anything else from what I know about the Power - no other Aes Sedai need to absorb some liquid (the eye of the world) to channel.
2) When Rand battled Ishmael in book 1, he cut off these black invisible cables that linked him to something pulsing. I thought that he was linked to the eye of the world and that both he and Rand were absorbing it (whatever that means). But after reading book 4 and Rand cutting off Asmodean from the Dark one, I'm beginning to think that these black cables are instead a link to the dark one?
3) (I think this is RAFO so please no spoilers). I thought High Lady Suroth was for sure a darkfriend as she complotted with Liandrin and refers to some Great Master. But I'm not sure she is? Which is confusing.
4) Did Moiraine use the One Power to bind some kind of Oath to Faile when she agreed to join their crew in the Dragon Reborn book? It is said that Faile felt a shiver and Moiraine touched her, and yet it doesn't seem like anything actually happened apart from words exchanged?
5) Why exactly was Siuan stilled? What were the charges? It seems like the only real one was that she held information on Rand before telling the Hall. I know there were other fake charges, but seeing as how Siuan can't lie, how would these of held in questioning?
6) What determines who will be a Wise One? And can all wise ones enter Tel'aran'rhiod (dreamers)?
7) In chapter 3 of Fires of Heaven, Mat call Rand Lews (which I assume is from previous memory - how else would he know that Rand would respond to that?). Later in chapter 22 he claims that is earliest memory is roughly 500 years before the Trolloc wars, thus many centuries past the days of Lews. Seems like a contradiction or is this another RAFO?
8) In book 2, Rand uses the portal stones and somehow everyone sees countless possible lives they could have lived. Is this anyway related to what the Aiel women experience in Rhuidean when becoming Wise ones? Or just coincidence? I've always had issues with this multiple lives thing, cause everyone should be able to see a bunch of futures and determine who is a dark friend (and as well that Rand could channel), and what their intentions were. And wouldn't have Rand known that Baalzamon was Ishamel and not the dark one (as there was some futures where the dark one won).
9) Am I supposed to know how Couladin got his tattoos?

I'll try and make my problem as simple and clear as possible.
I have two sets of darts. Torpedo and Standard parallel barrel.
-Torpedo: Short, Fat, grip of 1-2 (very slick). More power make the dart "slip" from my hands and feel erratic. Bottom of board feels easy to target and throw. Tops feels impossible.
-Parallel: Long, Thin, grip of 4. More power is very accurate. Can't figure out how to release with less power. Tops feels easy to target and throw. Bottom of board feels impossible.
So the question as the title asks:
How much is my release effectved by my grip, dart, and throw power?
I don't change my grip for each dart, and the throw power doesn't really change much from dart to dart perse. However, the dart shape/grip level seems to make power the lynchpin in my releases success or failure.
Where am I losing track of my toss? It's like I've lost any level of consistency. Just spend about 2 hrs doing doubles training with the torpedo darts. Quit on 20 and 1 when I got to 100 throws each and 5 took 87. 12 and 18 weren't great at 60-70 but the more I move to the bottom of the board the better it gets. 17 and 3 were sub 10darts each.
