2025.01.21 08:40 NoodleCreature844 High Risk Abdominal Surgery on Female Cockatiel
 | Need some advice. My female cockatiel Meep is to undergo a high risk surgery this Thursday. It was either that or euthanasia, so I opted to a least give her a chance. She has a large mass on her lower abdomen, this first appeared in July and I took her to urgent vets. They said it was likely a hernia and she would be fine. Over the coming months the lump still persisted, however at this point it was still hardly noticeable and her behaviour was normal so I resolved to keep an eye on it. This past Friday I noticed it had grown rapidly over the past couple days and was affecting her breathing. I booked her in to the vets immediately and they ran some tests. Turns out she is underweight, and this mass is suspected to be kind of infection/old egg yolk in her reproductive tract that’s spread. However with the inflammation it’s hard to tell. Obviously I’m extremely upset. Because the mass is so large it’s restricting her breathing, so she will need to be intubated during surgery. It is also in a risky area and I was told there would be a significant incision so blood loss is a major concern. The anaesthesia itself also carries a mortality rate. But it is my last chance to save her life, palliative care isn’t an option as I don’t want her to suffer more than she already has. Has anyone gone through something similar? Either a significant surgery or some other major illness? I tried to find out online but nothing really came up. So here is the deal. Health and oldness have caught up to me. I love making breads, but I need to cut out the salts, so I stick to sourdough and yeast baking. I’m trying to get into sourdoughs again but I cannot seem to make a soft loaf of sourdough to save my life. The start seems to be fine, it does its thing, but when I go to rise the dough, it’s just flat. I get an extremely dense crumb and it’s just not great. I have been playing with the ratios, but any suggestions on what to do? Maybe some good recipes that have worked well?

I work part-time (approximately 33-35 hours per week) at a small financial planning firm with fewer than 15 employees. My position was newly created, and during the hiring process, the owner indicated that it might evolve into a full-time role as I develop my skills and take on additional responsibilities.
With performance reviews approaching next month, I am eager to discuss the possibility of transitioning to a full-time position. Currently, I receive comprehensive benefits, including health insurance, a 401(k), and PTO. The firm is also sponsoring my Financial Paraplanner certification (FPQP), which I am set to complete in March, and this will allow me to take on even more responsibilities.
Since joining the firm in April, I have successfully taken on several additional tasks that have contributed to our operations. I often receive positive feedback, which leads me to believe that my role is valued, and my supervisors might anticipate this conversation.
I’m considering reaching out to my supervisor and the owner about a week before our reviews to express my interest in discussing this transition. What would be the best way to approach this conversation?

I wonder if our opinions match... You can answer this in detail or on a scale of 1 to 10 or both. You may also answer this question in general and ignore the situations altogether.
- You are casually going by and a person bumped into you. They didn't say sorry and just moved on.
- Out of the blue, an acquaintance shouts at you. You didn't do anything. Later on, they come to you and say sorry. They don't seem genuine.
- Same as above but this time they do seem genuine.
- You have a really, really close friend; like 'someone who understands you' kind of friend. You find out (from a genuine source, i.e. what you heard is 100% accurate) that they were actually manipulative. They lied to you. When you confronted them about it, they ignored you.
- Same as above but here they seemed shocked that you know about it. After a while they come to you and say sorry. They apologized multiple times and said that they didn't mean to manipulate you and that they'll not do this again.
