What a surprise. I really didn't expect to love this duology that much. My only regret is not reading it earlier.
The author nailed something most fantasy romance authors struggle with: pacing, leight and the balance between romance and plot.
The duology wasn't too long to get boring. There was no filler, everything that I've read had a purpose. The books' lenght was perfect, not too long but not too short.
As I said, the balance between plot and romance was 10/10, the world builing was smooth and not too complicated.
My favorite part was Shepherd King's backstory and those short flashbacks and also the connection between him and Elspeth. He genuinely cared about her, in his own way, and the ending had me in tears.
I wanted to see more Ione and Elspeth together in the end and I was disappointed we didn't get that. This is the only thing I didn't like, but the duology is still a 6+ stars for me

Hi. I want to become a textile conservator. I have finished the bachelor's in art conservation and heritage but unfortunately could not get into any internship here because my country is small and opportunities are limited. Here is the thing though, I want to become a textile conservator, but again there is no such training in my country and there are like maybe 3 professionals currently working who are overburdened and don't take any apprentices. I was initially thinking to go to Netherlands to get my masters in textile conservation specifically because they have this program at all and also an alumni program, but there is a housing crisis and I would need some big bucks to actually afford to learn there. Our own conservation masters is mostly about museology and architecture so it won't do. Okay I can save up, but that would take me like 5 years... Being basically out of practice. So I was thinking about some alternative routes on education. First I took up a course in traditional textile making as side note to familiarise myself better with techniques, but for formal education I was looking into taking Textile technologist masters. It would be a more industrial approach to it, so education mostly centered around chemical part of things. And it would allow me to write a thesis that's still centered on preservation of fabrics, just on the more technical side of things. So my question is for those who are working, how would it look for a potential employer if I have bachelor's in conservation and masters in textile technology, would it be a viable candidate?

2025.01.22 08:04 umm36 One-shot ideas for the City of Dis (Second circle of the Nine Hells)
I'm working on a series of one-shots to rescue an old character of mine currently trapped in Stygia by the Donjon card. The premise is that the level 4 fighter sworn to her service she gained from drawing the Knight card prior to the Donjon card is wandering the multiverse looking for adventurers to send into hell to rescue her. Each one-shot will be sequentially descending one layer at a time through the top 5 hells.
I have already run the first session crossing the Blood War in Avernus, through to Tiamat's lair to the entrance to the City of Dis in the second circle. The next one-shot, regardless of who I end up running it with, it may well be the same characters, it could also be different players entirely, will be attempting to get through the City of Dis and into the third circle of Hell.
The problem I have though, is there is very little information available for Dis compared to the entire 'Baldur's Gate: Descent Into Avernus' adventure module. I do have access to the 'Fiendish Codex II - Tyrants of the Nine Hells' from 3.5e which has a great deal of information on the setting, but not a lot in the way of encounters, or a guided adventure. Through to the next layer.
(with that said, I also need suggestions for layers 3 and 4 as well :P )
