2025.01.22 15:42 machinemaster500 Players and dms of reddit. How much do you put in a backstory for your characters?
I'll start... Personally, I like open ended backstories for my character, the kind that can be moulded into shape by the dm, myself and even the other players.
The main reason why is because I like improving. The idea that midway through the campaign you get an idea and BAM it connects feels so good compared to a prepared backstory with 1 or 2 focuses.
My best example of this is a character I'm currently playing known as Juke.
TL:DR - kenku afraid of scarecrows gets a backstory.
(Will put a (%) where I put the full backstory but the buildup makes more context.)
Originally juke was a kenku who used to be a travelling messenger but stopped after a message he delivered to a dragonborn (because he didn't speak draconic) was a catalyst to a war that he believes he started.
And that was it... sure there was his glass eye arcane focus that he had no idea about but that was something to come up during the campaign.
Later on in the campaign the DM asked about what our characters might have been afraid of (nightmare stuff) and I said scarecrows with the souls of children inside (because a krnku being afraid of scarecrows is ridiculous alone)
After that it never really came up much until at a magic school, training dummies were shown to be transmutated students which made juke panic to the point he needed his memories of it removed.
Now... most recent session I had finally figured out the full backstory through a story that i will eventually tell in game (and in the backstory).
Roughly a year before the start of the campaign my character woke up in the body of a kenku, not remembering their name or original race. He remembers everything else up to a point where he was infront of his father, remembering a scream and fainting.
As he looked he saw he was lying on a grave with the name Juke B Oxal, and decided that would be the name he goes by. Not 100% knowing how he knows how to use the kenku's ability.
Making his way back to the village, he saw it in ruins, signs of battle and no bodies in the area. After crying in the loss of his home he travels as a messenger around the continent in hopes to find any sign of his father, friends or anyone but something knaws in his mind. As he remembers a story that was told in the village.
About a goddess that looked down at the world and observed the children, watching them grow into heros, merchants and villains alike. She believed that all children can grow into the world and bring change and advance it further than before. And if a child should die, the goddess would guide the child's soul to a new body and give them new life.
Juke had grown up with this believe of the story being true, with the children of the village playing pranks and hiding behind scarecrows, calling out for help only to scare juke by jumping from behind.
And so as juke travels, not revealing his thoughts and nature on how he turned out like this, even to his new "family". Juke still hopes to see his father one day, even if it means dying in the process.

I’ve always purchased Costco Jewelry as I find them great for gifts, quality, price, and I trust their hold/diamonds are clean and legit.
But, back in December, my sister took me to this one place she buys her jewelry, it’s a more special place of custom pieces; and my vision changed completely! Pricing at this place is a bit more than Costco but the designs are exceptional overall. Nothing that Costco offers currently. Hand made artisan pieces kind of design. Of course they have the standard patterns as well, but the variety is wow.
They do say their quality and trajectory backs up their products, meaning they’re not fake, blended and that it is 100% Italian manufacture.
Now I’m thinking if Costco is actually worth it? Never had issues with them, but I feel the quality of this other place is better, pieces are heavier, and desings are, again, exceptional. And each piece of bracelet or necklace is not that much higher on price and it think it’s worth based on the complexity of the design. Also the pieces feel heavier than Costco.
What do you guys think? Should I keep doing Costco or open up to an actual jeweler?

Mas no site da pré-matrícula preencho meus dados corretamente e dá erro. Diz que os dados não foram encontrados.
É um erro do sistema? Será que só depois de receber o e-mail posso realizar o procedimento?

2025.01.22 15:42 _kittykaysworld Trying to get G-Sync enabled from my laptop to my extended monitor please help!
I have an ASUS ROG Zephyrus M16 laptop with a 4070 GPU & I have the Alienware DWF monitor. I'm trying to enable G-Sync however, the option to click it wont even show up in the NVidia control panel unless I disconnect my monitor from my laptop. Which is weird? because the monitor is G Sync compatible and my laptop is G sync as well. I used the DP cord and plugged in the USB-C end to my laptop. Does using the DP cord make it automatically G Sync or is there a a way around this or am i doing something wrong? please help lol its driving me nuts

This is a follow-up to another thread I posted recently.
I am considering a job offer from my employer to relocate me for 3 years to Raleigh, NC, from the UK, with my wife and 1-year old daughter. For personal reasons and for commuting, we are looking at Apex area to live.
The salary offer is $130k.
I have been looking at budgeting, and at least to begin with I need to be confident we can all survive on my salary alone.
These are my calculations:
Monthly Pay After Tax: $7800
- Rent: $2000
- 2x Car Lease/Financing: $800
- 2x Days Daycare: $400
- Groceries: $1000
- 2x Sim Only Phone Contracts: $70
- Electricity/Gas: $150
- Internet: $90
- Water: $20
- Petrol: $100
- Landlords insurance (for our home in UK): $60
- Life insurance (requirement for our home in UK): $100
- Medical insurance: $600
- 2x Car insurance: $400
Honestly, when weighing-up this offer I really didn't think the financial side would be my hang-up, as I will be doubling my UK salary. But due to higher rental costs, need to upkeep 2 cars, no child benefit or free daycare hours, medical insurance, I am estimating we will be almost the same after expenses as we are now.
And for that, I would be giving up 30 days leave + 11 public holidays, closure over christmas period, flexible working, etc.
Am I way off with any of the above financial planning? I have tried to compare sources as best as possible, and there is the great unknown of arriving in the US with no credit history.

2025.01.22 15:42 abcdefu8888 A little more than a month ago, I noticed ants inside my MacBook Air. If you’re experiencing the same thing, don’t make the mistake I did.c
Here’s what happened: I Googled solutions and found videos on YouTube and Apple Music with sounds that supposedly drive ants away. When I played them, they seemed to work initially—I saw ants scurrying out of the laptop. However, it actually made things worse because the ants started biting the speakers. They must have really hated the sounds.
Thankfully, I was able to take my laptop to repair technicians, who cleaned the interior and replaced the damaged speakers. They said I was lucky the ants hadn’t reached the display or motherboard yet.
Lesson learned: if you find ants in your laptop, take it to Apple or an accredited repair center immediately to have it professionally cleaned. Don’t try DIY solutions like I did. (And definitely don’t play those ant removal sounds—they’re not worth the risk! 😬)

Also, the signature section can be read:

I want to know the appropriate terminology in English when referring to an attorney in a legal document; or do I ditch all professional degrees before a name?
