Is this bothering anyone else?? Every weekday from about 7am to 7pm the LIRR park their trains at the LIC station. And rather than turn them off, they let the engines idle all day long. This makes a loud rumble that hums throughout the entire neighborhood for the whole day. I can feel it vibrate my windows. We cannot keep waiting til the weekends for some peace and quiet. They've got to turn these engines off when not in use. What can we do about this?

Hello everyone (or those who decided to click on my post). Are you lonely? Are you geeky? If you answered yes to any of those (or both), then I think you may have found the person to chat with.
As the title hints, I am a full-time geek whose social awkwardness makes it difficult to find people out in the wild. I don’t go to clubs or bars; I like to just chill at home and either game, watch something geeky, or read. Now, I know the burning question you are thinking: “Have you always been this way, or just more of your adult life have been like this?” And the answer is I’ve always been this way. I grew up with a comic geek dad and a sci-fi/horror lover aunt, so it was easy to join the culture. I was raised on gaming and reading comics. I love older comedy and sci-fi like DR. Who. I also play Magic: The Gathering with my buddies.
If I had to describe my looks, I would have to say take a geek, a lumberjack, and the lack of perfect 20/20 vision, and bam, you have me. I have been growing my beard out for a while and feel weird without one. I have those geeky plastic box-like glasses. I like wearing flannels or button-ups, and I have what I’ve been told is a Dadbod. Other descriptions I have been told I look like are a geeky bear, teddy bear, and many more.
Now for the part you are looking for, what is it I am looking for? I’m honestly not 100% sure. I know I don’t care for looks. I’ve always been more of a personality type person. I do though like my partner to be shorter than me (6ft), a bit geeky if possible, but those aren’t make-it or break-it qualities.

When I was a kid I used to plant things like beans and sunflowers in yogurt pots.
Then I read you need to have holes in the bottom for drainage. OK.
Then I see some newer contraptions like "self-watering pots" that basically soak the soil.
Can someone help me understand drainage? If too much water is bad, how to self-watering pots work. When I read about a plant that says "it requires good drainage", what does that mean?
I have a small avocado tree basically growing in a bucket and it's very happy and healthy. I also have some vegetables growing in trays which also look fine. Should I repot these?

 | Just wanted to share my dash cam install experience. I wanted to have minimal wiring exposed and did not want to deal with running cables around the side curtain airbags. I came across a thread in Ariya forums and was able to gather some info. On the Evolve trim there's an 8-pin connector that goes into the left side of the front facing camera. This can be found above the rear view mirror, under the plastic trim. Pin 5 (black wire) is ground and Pin 8 (pink wire) is 12v on when car is "awake". I tapped it with a back-stab 12v-to-USB adapter. That allowed me to plug the USB cord from the camera and keep all the wires tucked in under the trim. It was super simple and neat. Most important piece of advice: when you pop the trim off the ceiling that has the passenger air bag light attached, DO NOT UNPLUG THE WIRING! It will cause an airbag error that will require a trip to the dealership to clear. Just maneuver it out of the way. I have a good thing going. Decent computer, decent rig, decent everything... but currently using an Oculus Rift, like a 2016 vintage one. I really can't go back to monitors. The immersion is way too good. So it's time to upgrade...
Here's the thing: I've tried a Pimax Crystal Light and an HTC Vive Pro 2, and while the on-center view is A-MA-ZING compared to the Rift, they can't come close to the edge clarity that you get with the Rift. There are some other compromises I'm willing to live with for the better resolution, but I can't deal with not being able to read the text in HUD elements at or even near the edge of the FOV. It kills me that the old-ass Rift is like, perfect in that regard, while both of these much newer headsets are a big downgrade in edge clarity and "sweetspot" size.
I don't want to just keep buying and returning headsets, but I don't know of a place where I can actually put a bunch of these on my face and see with my own eyes, other than maybe the Meta Quest line. I've been reading as many reviews as possible, and doing research until it hurts, but it seems like my idea of good edge clarity isn't the same as the people writing the reviews. That's why I'm reaching out to the simracing community. Maybe someone here has gone through this process and can tell me if there is a slam-dunk next candidate to try, or if I'm chasing a dragon.
TL;DR: looking for a VR headset with excellent edge clarity, almost to the exclusion of any other specs, on par with the OG 2016 Oculus Rift. Anyone here had any luck? Thank you for reading!
