2025.01.22 20:49 Crow-in-a-flat-cap Open letter
Wasn't sure where to post this, so I thought I'd try here.
Open Letter to Donald Trump
Mr. Trump
Let me first say that I will not be using the terms “Sir” or “Mr. President,” as you deserve neither. I am writing this to tell you what your opinions and policies will mean for normal Americans like myself.
I am a simple man. I am thirty years old, living in a semi-rural suburb. I have a Bachelors in Creative Writing. Perhaps that hasn’t gotten me much in terms of monetary gain, but I don’t need it.
I’ll admit, I don’t have all that much ground to stand on from a personal standpoint. My parents paid for part of my education. The rest I earned through scholarships and student loans.
I was also born with a heart condition, one that I have had several surgeries for and a few serious illnesses because of. It is miraculous that I am still alive at all. I owe my life, however long it may last, to medicine, God, and my mother, the toughest woman I have ever met. You have been elected to another Presidential term, in which you have already begun to spit on every single one of those things.
Don’t think I'm perfect or brainwashed, because I used to hold some of the same beliefs you purport to hold. I used to hate Hispanics when I was little, until I realized one day that I was letting a few bullies and the ignorant words of other people influence me. As I went through school, I began to understand. These people weren’t criminals. They were desperate, frightened refugees who saw their countries fall into ruin, largely because of the same drugs and criminal gangs that you yourself are trying to warn Americans about.
They are running from places like Los Cabos, Acapulco, Tijuana, La Paz and Ciudad Victoria, all of which are in Mexico. They are also among the most dangerous cities in the world by homicide rate. Would you want to live in a city if you knew one out of every 1,000 people there would be murdered within the year?
I didn’t used to believe in abortion, largely owing to the circumstances of my birth. My mother believed that if nothing else, she owed me a chance at life. My chance of survival at birth was under thirty percent. I lived, but most did not.
In college, my views changed, because I learned that there was more to the story. I had believed that abortion occurred because some people hadn’t bothered to use contraceptives and were too selfish to face the consequences.
What I did not know was that contraceptives are expensive and that most people do not receive adequate education about how to get or use them. I also learned that efforts to educate people on this subject have historically met with resistance. I still, personally, disagree with abortion, but I understand that it is not mine or any human being’s right to take it away. Now, I dream of a world where people can choose to have children or not, and know that anything they need to make that decision a reality is within their reach.
I used to be ignorant about sexual assault, as well. I knew it was wrong and that the people who did it should be punished. I did not, however, know that one in five women will be raped in their lifetimes, that one in 33 men will experience the same, and that these numbers might still be a low estimate. I also didn’t know that many rapists who aren’t caught the first time will repeat their crimes, that very few accused rapists will be found guilty, or that perhaps 10% of cases, at most, involve false accusations. Furthermore, many of these are the result of mistaken identity due to trauma rather than malicious intent.
Those were all things I didn’t know. Here’s what I do know. I know what it’s like to lay awake in a dorm at night, crying and calling home, explaining to family members that you think somebody in a nearby dorm has been assaulted. I remember hearing someone sobbing and begging a roommate not to call the police while the roommate assured them it wasn’t their fault. I know what it’s like to hate someone without knowing who they are. I know what it’s like to wish you’d been braver, while also being grateful that you weren’t. I know what it’s like to feel like every choice would’ve been wrong.
I’ve seen many things, Mr. Trump. I’ve seen the resolve in the eyes of others in the days after 9/11. I’ve seen what a hero looks like. I’ve seen boys who were men at twelve years old, and men who were still boys at fifty. I’ve seen others left behind by their biological fathers who dedicate their lives to a Holy Father. I’ve seen people drive for hours to be there for the graduation of a friend they met online.
I’ve witnessed innocent people punished and guilty ones rewarded. I’ve seen what it’s like to give up hope, and then fight like hell to get it back. I’ve offered a comforting smile to family members after being told by a doctor that I might not live. I’ve seen the specter of death more times than I can count, and it’s taught me one important lesson–you can be scared and back down or you can be scared and keep walking. Fear is inevitable. Despair is inevitable. Defeat isn’t.
I say all of this to make it clear that I am not a weak man. I’ve seen my fair share of things, enough to know that human beings are innately good and that everybody has some good in them.
I’ve studied history. It’s a hobby of mine, and it seems clear to me that one truth stands out, again and again. Every few generations, there comes a time when we’re given a choice. Do we choose to stand back and protect ourselves or stand up and defend others?
Our Founding Fathers understood this. Jesus Christ understood this. Lincoln, John Brown, Dr. King, and many others understood this.
Many in this generation understand it as well, and you will find them unbent, unwavering, and uncompromising in their resolve if you choose to threaten what they hold dear.
I fear what the next few years will bring, and what the price of enduring them will be, but I don’t fear the result. There are people in this world who still believe in standing up to bullies, even if the whole world stands against them.
The next move is yours, Mr. Trump, but know this. We will be waiting, and we will be ready.
Sincerely,
A fellow human being

2025.01.22 20:49 zactastic_1 Milk vs oat milk, how?
How come my latte art practice fails so hard with Oatly compared to whole milk? Ok, if done a few hearts or onions which is better than the example on the left with Oatly but I’m really struggling getting better and I don’t use whole milk (only for practice ) How did you improve your oat milk skills? I think for me it’s that I’m inconsistent in foaming the milk. These shots were identical and both had solid crema. 2025.01.22 20:49 Suspicious_Gur_2158 Canadians who moved to Germany - How is it going?
Should we stay in Berlin or move to Canada?
Hello everyone,
We are a couple in our early 30s from South Asia, currently living and working in Berlin. I’m a product manager with 3-4 years of experience, and my wife works in product analytics. We earn a combined 8k euros per month netto here and plan to have a kid in a couple of years.
We’ve been in Berlin for some time but haven’t fully integrated yet, partly because we don’t speak German. While we love the lifestyle here, we’ve found it challenging to feel fully at home, and the language barrier has been a significant factor. This is completely a 'us problem' and we have begun to learn the language
We received Canadian permanent residence in 2023 and have about a year to decide whether to move to Canada (likely Toronto or Vancouver) or let it go entirely. We’re also considering staying in Berlin long-term, where we’ll be eligible for permanent residence in a couple of years and citizenship a few years after that. Returning to our home country is another option, but we’re leaning towards staying abroad.
Why did you leave Canada? And what are the things about Canada that you feel are considerably better there than here.
We’d love advice from Berliners or Germans on a few things:

2025.01.22 20:49 Beautiful-Answer-183 Struggling with trilaminar lining formation
I’m wondering if others here have had trouble with their lining forming the ideal trilaminar pattern?
I’m preparing for my first FET and am on CD17. My first baseline check was on CD2 and my lining measured at 4.7mm. I have been on Estrace 2mg 3 times a day. On my second check on CD15, my lining measured 6.8mm but they couldn’t see the trilaminar pattern so they asked me to come back in 2 days. This morning, the repeat ultrasound showed a just barely there line for the trilaminar pattern and a lining measuring 6.7mm. My RE didn’t make changes to my medications but has me going in for another check in 2 days.
Has anyone else experienced a slow developing trilaminar pattern? Is that a thing? I’ve been looking for clinical studies and searching this group but have found mostly studies/posts related to lining thickness or absence of the trilaminar pattern but nothing about the in between I find myself!
I’m hoping to find some context for further questions to ask my RE at my next appointment and prepare for the possibility of a cancelled transfer :(

2025.01.22 20:49 EuroCultAV This 2000 Point List for Chaos Space Marines
I am very forgetful when it comes to our rules, so I try to keep my lists mostly the same with only a few changes per game. Last month I got my beat, pretty bad by Astra Militarum with a hugely tanky list. I don't know what my opponent is bringing, but I was thinking of using the Tzaangors to screen by advancing them turn one, and then putting the MVB's and the 2 5 man squads behind them. Leaving the 10 man flamer squad to screen for Magnus.
The bolter squad I was going to leave back on the back objective.
The Exalted on disc, I was going to use right off the bat to handle objectives.

2025.01.22 20:49 Strange-Drummer-1419 Crazy Helly R. theory - hear me out
I know this is crazy, but hear me out. Instead of Helena being Helly R., what if they instead found a way to implant Mrs Cobel into Helena’s body instead, completely getting rid of Helly R.?
After Milcheck(?) said that Cobel was obsessed with Mark, I think that maybe she saw this as an opportunity to get back to Lumon and, most importantly, get even closer to Mark.
I could be totally wrong on this, but what if I wasn’t? Either way, just putting it out there.
