2025.01.23 01:30 Mountain_Future5806 I find my therapist's constant curiosity and questions annoying
tl;dr My therapist asks endless questions; I find his curiosity threatening and annoying. But I guess other patients would find it comforting and validating.
My therapist asks lots of questions, naturally.
The thing is, I don't like therapy, and I don't like talking about myself. So I'll talk about my anxiety and describe it, and he'll ask me how it feels, and he'll ask me when I most feel anxious So, I'll describe how making connections with other people makes me feel anxious, and working on stuff I enjoy makes me feel anxious (that's a big problem), and my anxiety feels like it starts in my chest and rises up to my head.
So he'll keep asking questions about that, other times I've felt that way, when the feeling was stronger or weaker, if anything helps.
He offers very little insight in return, maybe a few observations, but mostly just more questions.
To me, his curiosity feels intrusive and, actually, kind of threatening, even though it's not meant that way. I think he has nothing but good intentions. With other therapists I've had, it also feels like a threat, so it's not him.
Also, it's a lot of effort for me to describe what I'm feeling, because sometimes I don't really know how I'm feeling. So I'm doing all the work, and he's not even helping me describe how I'm feeling. There's no, "well, maybe you felt this way? Here's how you might feel, and this might be why. Does that make sense or not? How do you feel about that?" There's none of that.
I've always wondered why I seem to get less out of therapy, and have a tougher time with the nuts and bolts of it, than other patients. Maybe this is part of the problem?
I guess to most/all the other patients out there, a therapist's curiosity makes them feel cared for, that someone is curious and interested and seems to have no other motive than getting to know them and trying to help them.
But for me, it's irritating and annoying. I don't like talking about myself anyway, or being vulnerable. Plus, it's a big effort to describe my feelings and figure out what's behind it.
So I do all this work, and I push through the discomfort, and all I get in return is more questions. No insight, no solutions, no analysis. If there is any of that offered, it's usually pretty weak and bland.
When I told my therapist all this, he was really surprised. I asked if he could empathize with finding curiosity threatening, and he said it was very difficult for him to understand it, and even harder for him to empathize with it.
I realized also that being curious is most therapists' "love language." It's the way they convey their interest and affection and intention.
But when I go to all that work and discomfort talking about myself, and I don't get "anything" in return, I feel like I'm being ripped off. I feel like, "I'm not just here to answer your questions."
I want insight, I want new ways to look at my issues, I want deep explanations for why I have the anxieties I do and what to do about it. At least, I want a way forward in therapy: how long is this going to take, is it going to help, is there a rough path this treatment will follow, how will I know it's working.
Those are all questions that the therapists I've had can't really answer.
I feel like, if you want me to accept your compassion, you're going to have to earn it.
I guess it's not that I just find being vulnerable threatening. It's that i find being vulnerable - without insight and competent insight - threatening. I want a therapist to show competence and specific knowledge for my struggles, not just unending curiosity and compassion. But, I guess for a lot of therapists and patients, that curiosity and compassion, and the bond that comes over time from all that endless curiosity and compassion, is most of what it's about. I guess.
I guess most patients initially feel nervous about therapy but gradually become more comfortable with the therapist's attention and curiosity. My reaction is different - I find the sustained therapeutic curiosity itself threatening and enraging, and this doesn't seem to diminish over time.

2025.01.23 01:30 RevolutionaryCry6398 NIH SIP for high school
I checked the NIH website for their summer internship program for high schooler. The website said the program has been discontinued and merged with the regular sip program, where I can only apply after senior year. I want to do a research internship with the NIH in high school. Are there any other programs that they have for high schoolers?

2025.01.23 01:30 ryantaylor25 Weld symbol interpretation
How would you interpret this weld size? I see it as CJP (100% ETT). The actual welds were PJP and folks are saying it’s okay it’s just a seal weld. If that’s the case, I say just remove any size requirement from the symbol. What say you fine folks? submitted by ryantaylor25 to Welding [link] [comments] |

2025.01.23 01:30 Pleasant_Tea7606 Rosebury Hard Heel?
I've just received a brand new pair of Rosebury's and whilst I love everything about the style, I feel like I'm standing on the front edge of a step when I put them on. I appreciate that they're leather insole and the heel block is a little higher than the Lady Yearling's but the Rosebury's are actually quite uncomfortable. Does anyone feel the same about them, and can tell me whether if I persisted with them, they would wear-in more and become comfortable. They're my first pair of RM Williams boots so don't really have anything to compare to. I've been sitting at my desk wearing them for about an hour and they're not very comfortable, and border on painful. Any insight would be helpful!

2025.01.23 01:30 HumanProgress365 My school just demoted me and I feel like crying
I work in as an English/Social Studies teacher, and for the past several years I have taught as well as a member of the leadership team. When I first arrived, I already had some experience as a teacher and soon worked my way up to the head of the English department within a year. I took pride in my duties, hoping that my hard work would be recognized.
Over the years, our demographics have changed. At one point, we were 90% white and 10% black, like most Americans. More recently, many people from foreign countries have started coming here to work, and their children have come here too. We also got a lot of transplants from the South and from the MidWest. Now those people don't always get along but one thing they have in common is that they are not always the most progressive, and they are starting to influence the School Board and PTA. For one, the district’s HR director appears to be openly discriminating against Americans especially members of the LGBT community. They will still be superficially nice to white people, especially white conservatives even treading on eggshells near them but they just do not have a very high opinion of white liberals, non-white people who are not of their ethnicity, or LGBT people.
For the record, I am not white myself and I am conservative on some issues (like foreign policy) liberal on others (social issues).
It is clear that these changes have created an environment where policies and hiring decisions are based on ethnicity and political affiliations. In some cases, these actions seem to benefit Asian and Latino teachers (and then white conservatives second) more than teachers of other races. As someone who has worked hard for this position, I cannot help but feel a bit slighted. Especially since the person who will be replacing me has zero experience as a teacher.
Today, some of teachers were bragging about Trump killing DEI. A few hours later, I was asked to resign from my position as chair of the English department. I have not been given a direct answer as to why, but I believe the biggest factor is my race and possibly my politics. Literally shaking right now. It seems extremely unfair that the decision to fire me, after so many years of service as a public servant, was based on factors beyond my qualifications or contributions to date.

There are several post about quality issues with these trucks. My 24 ZR2 (5500 miles) is currently sitting at the dealership with an oil leak issue. Rear main seal is what they are telling me.
I'm just curious how many of y'all have had NO issues with your trucks? Specifically 3rd Gen owners.
This is my first Chevy product and I absolutely love this truck. But I may be going back to Ford. My Focus ST never had any major issues after 96k miles.
