2025.01.23 05:04 SD_TMI I'm going to put this out there. Growing your own food here in SD because the future might be uncertain.
FYI SDGE has it's own rebate program for planting fruit trees in your yard. They have a short list but I've been reliably told that they'll accept other kinds of fruiting trees (especially hybrids) that aren't specifically on the list.
It's bareroot season so that you can pick up a stone fruit or other tree for $30 at home depot and also inexpensively at the better gardenstores like Walter Andersons (the better trees with far greater variety) are is shipped in wood shavings and not soil. This is the cheapest way for most people to get a tree right now that will fruit in the next 2 years.
Also, this is a very good time to get a small flock of egg laying chickens. You can have 5 hens in San Diego as long as there's room and no noise complaints. Hens will produce eggs without a rooster being around on their own and the eggs will be far healthier and better nutritionally than those out of the store.
Everyone is making a big deal about egg prices and they're right... but you can get your own birds, raise them yourself and you'll have much better eggs and even meat to insulate yourself from future shortages.
Yes it'll take a few months to raise them to maturity and you'll have to spend 15 minutes feeding and watering them in their coop area each day (overhead) but they are great for getting rid of table scraps and also serve as pets (depending on breed).
The best part is that bird flu is going to continue to get worse and with this new administrations shutting down of the health, FDA and other departments concerning food and medicine, it's a damn good idea to get these started so that you have something and you know where your food is coming from and it's safe.
Also chickens will turn kitchen waste in to food.

I have been sleeping with Sara for the past few months.
Recently we found out she is pregnant. It was an accident. We are Muslim so she doesn't have many options and it's OK. I told her I will marry her. I have feelings for her already and we both want the child.
The problem is that her parents are obviously not happy about it. They think I'm not good enough for her. They want her to abort the baby (which is illegal btw) and go live with them. Her life will be literal hell if she does that.
Her family has always been neglectful and pretty abusive so I told her that I love her and am willing to support her and our child. She had to choose between me and her parents because it's clear her parents won't ever approve of us. She chose me. (I didn't tell her to choose. We discussed the options and she herself realized this)
Her dad called me last night and he was fuming. He called me a bunch of names which were worse than asshole and demanded I do the "right thing" and break up with his daughter.

Seriously the amount of times this game would benefit from queue is insane, played too many games (ranked) with 4-5 instalock DPS and it gets boring fast.
Please for the love of god, implement role queue and keep it as a separate option for those masochists that love losing.
As much as I love being forced into tank/healer it would be nice to occasionally play DPS myself.

I just got a quote to replace the old split-bus panel in the other half of my duplex for $5,500. For context, I live in Oregon and the very nice electrician who came out to do the estimate explained that our local utility company has their own installation standards, etc. that exceed the state and national requirements. I also have just enough electrical skill to replace outlets and switches, but know that for anything beyond that I'd better call in a professional.
Does that quote sound reasonable? Should I get a second estimate? Any advice appreciated and I'm happy to offer additional information if that's helpful in giving better guidance.

This situation just happened and I am a little... shocked still. I just want to know if I'm the problem here.
I'd been talking to someone I've known for six years. He and I had chemistry, and had an on and off 'fling' I guess. I didnt mind him being around - I genuinely liked him - and I thought he liked me.
Recently we'd been talking A LOT. Like everyday he'd call, and we'd chat for an hour. He'd plan dates, talking about me meeting his friends, etc.
Tonight was the first night I was going to stay the night. Around 8, he asks what I want on the pizza he's getting - and if I want sides.
Around 8:30 I get to his apartment - and the doors locked. I call. No answer. I knock. No answer. I text. No answer. I call again.... and he's blocked me.
