2025.01.23 07:04 draw-and-hate The portfolio that got me my first job in the industry.
I am a storyboard artist with 6+ years experience, currently working during a severe industry downturn. I graduated in 2017.
When I left college, I made two boards fresh out of school. I was 22 at the time.
Board 1
Board 2
The market was in a better spot back then and it still took me a year after creating these animatics to get hired. I only had three months experience from an internship where I wasn't allowed to draw. Other than that, everything had to come from me.
I wanted to make this post to show aspiring board artists, but also ALL budding animators, what is required to break in. I was not one of the best artists when I started university. Other people constantly overshadowed me. But through hard work and practicing all semester AND every summer, I got where I needed to be. I took every critique seriously and worked to improve.
I am not naturally gifted, I just enjoy the craft enough to do it consistently. If I can succeed, anyone can.

2025.01.23 07:04 FirstNameGay I just finished the series, here’s some of my thoughts ig (spoilers for the end of the series and stuff)
I’m one of the people that like breaking bad more, but I really fell in love with Saul and Kim.
The writers do such a good job portraying both Saul and Walt as like “A bad good person”
Good as in someone you want to root for cause of their character and background
Im a little indifferent towards the ending. Obviously saul couldn’t get away with it, but I never saw him going to prison although that’s the most realistic option
I’m glad Kim came back at the end
Anyways- I felt like better call Saul in general was very slow compared to breaking bad. It’s 6 years instead of 2, and most of the things going on was much more mundane. I enjoyed seeing more of Mike and some other characters, nacho I loved, but honestly There wasn’t enough of saul Goodman Not jimmy, but his time as that kind of lawyer. I came into this show expecting at least a small portion to be what being saul Goodman was like, but I guess that was already shown in breaking bad
what do you guys think?

2025.01.23 07:04 _I-Z-Z-Y_ "tapar el ojo al macho"
Hello. In a scene from a Mexican tv show, the police have shown up to a man's house after having received a call from a neighbor complaining about hearing gunshots. The head police officer asks to man if they can do a search. The man replies that he'd rather not wake up his family. Then the officer says: "Déjeme hacer una revisión rapidita para taparle el ojo al macho, y ya.".
What does "tapar el ojo al macho" mean in this context? Thank you.

2025.01.23 07:04 Bujorba Interview for a promotion soon with a boss that seemingly despises me.
So, I work in a retail store. Without going into too much detail, it's a retail business with a lab attached to manufacture our products. The current lab boss just had his final day today and so his position is up for grabs.
So here is the short version of the context.
A few years ago, our store opened and I was part of the opening staff. I was head hunted as the lead retail. Not a manager but right under.
We opened up under a different general manager, whom we had for a little over a year. in that year, I helped train our retail staff and we had some of the highest numbers in the district, and in the top tier of our company.
Our previous gm left due to corporate meddling and I had to step up as interim GM for about 2 and a half months. During this time, our numbers did not drop, if anything, I was told they improved, and after multiple meetings with the staff, everyone said they felt properly supported. I applied for the position, but was not given the spot. The district manager, who was in charge of filling the position, said that the only reason i was not given the position was due to the fact I'm not "licensed" for the position. My industry is one where you can and should get licensed, but you only qualify to apply after you are in the industry for more than 4ish years. At the time, I was 6 months short from that time.
Cut to the end of that two and a half months, and the new gm arrives.
In the first few weeks, I did my job as normal, though I did ask for her input on a few extra decisions because I was trying to get a feel for how she wanted to run things.
I get the feeling that she's not really warming up to me, and I get it. it's weird to step into a store that has a really set procedure for everything and everyone is still kinda asking me for help with everything, just out of muscle memory.
I'm also kinda waiting for her to pull me aside one day and tell me what her expectations for the store and me are. I'm doing my job as I have been, but I know that every manager is their own person with their own priorities.
That doesn't happen for a few weeks, so I approach her and essentially go "hey, I see my position as an extension of yours. You tell me what you want the store to focus on and I'll do what I can to help achieve that"
Since then, our relationship has continued to sour, despite my best efforts. Our numbers have overall dropped since she's taken over. She is constantly leaving early or coming in late. In fact, I tracked her hours one week and she was only there for about 31 hours, that put her at the bottom of hours worked for the whole store. Whenever she's gone, I'm left in charge, but i don't have all the permissions of a manager, so things just don't move as smoothly. Things ran a bit smoother back when I was the interim manager because I was given those permissions at the time.
However, despite the amount of time I'm left in charge of everything, she's repeatedly told me, and other people, that she doesn't trust my performance. I've pointed out to her that WHEN she's there, we're already a skeleton crew. So when she's gone, she's leaving less people than is expected to handle a high volume of orders. When you're so short staffed for so long, mistakes will happen. However, she's continued to have me and the staff work under those conditions.
Additionally, there was a time where she even provably spread a rumor about me and my work ethic among the staff. when I learned this, I pulled her aside and asked her "hey, this thing you say I'm doing, I don't believe that is the case. If I'm wrong, can you please show me which orders I did this?"
She said that she wasn't saying what she did seriously. It was more of a joke or jab. I asked her to not say incorrect things about how i do business, especially when it could impact how the team sees their lead. She stopped, but i could tell she was upset.
Cut to today.
The lab manager left and he's been training me for the last week or so. He even told me that he would recommend me for the position.
At the end of his shift, the GM pulls him into her office and they talk about his perspective on the candidates.
He mentioned his recommendation, and she apparently talked at length about how she doesn't think I'm cut out for management and that she doesn't want me in the role.
When the leaving lab manager told me, and I will say, he left on amazing terms, this very deeply angered and hurt me. For nearly 10 months, she has continually left me in charge of uphill battles to go home early. I'm apparently strong enough to constantly be left in charge, but not strong enough for the actual title of a manager.
So I'm left wondering how I should even approach this interview. She's not the only person involved. There's also the district lab manager.
My current plan is to focus on the fact that this store has had pretty great numbers since we opened and that in this equation, I've been the only consistent member of leadership. That I've been at this store for over 2 and a half years and i have plenty of experience managing this exact store.
However, I'm concerned it won't even matter. Hell, I had a long talk with the leaving manager and he straight up said that based on what she's done and acted, it seems like she's trying to set me up for failure.
I'm thinking of approaching HR, cause I'm at my limit, knowing that she's okay with taking advantage of the entire staff for so long, me especially, and likely won't even give me the chance to climb the ladder
Additionally, if she were to bring up these issues, like the mistakes being made on days where we are so short staffed, is there even a professional way to point out the contradiction to her criticism in the interview itself? That she is constantly leaving me in charge but is also saying that I'm not cut out for management?
