Inspired by a recent poker post. You are given 9 cards of the same suit. What are the odds that you have a straight flush? More generally, you select m items from a group of n, labeled 1 through m. What are the odds that you have at least p items in a row, where the highest item in the group can also count as the lowest, but not both ways in the same set (such that in a group of 10, {10,9,8} would be a row of 3, as would {10, 1, 2}, but not {9, 10, 1}.
I can't figure out how to come up with a generalized formula.

This week we have Barry Lunt, one of two founders of Milleniata, the creators of M-Disc. The company may be gone, but the format lives on. Most modern DVD and Blu-Ray drives can write to M-Disc, and Verbatim still sells it. Barry explains to us why they decided to make M-Disc, and why it's different than any other optical product. He also offers a shocker: a study done many years ago that shows that recordable DVDs are nowhere near as good at holding onto data as they claim. There is a lot of good info in this episode. Hope you like it.Apart from M-Disc, I'm wondering if any archival grade optical discs, such as Blu-rays or DVDs, exist, are available for purchase, and have credible evidence supporting claims about their longevity.
For example, I see that Verbatim sells "archival grade" DVD-Rs with a gold layer. Verbatim says, "these discs are designed to last up to 100 years when properly stored." The Canadian Conservation Institute (part of the Canadian federal government) estimates the longevity of DVD-Rs with a gold metal layer at "50 to 100 years". The big downside here is each disc only holds 4.7 GB. Seems like it would be a pain to burn that many DVDs.

I'm playing on Stalker on the PC. In looting around the map, I learned I could repair the transmitter towers as I went and so I did as the wiki indicated that it would not interfere with Signal Void. I fixed MT, PV, DP, and completed 3/4 repairs on FM but didn't have the wires. I made sure to flip the power switch as well.
In heading off to the new Tales region to explore and whatnot, I repaired the FA transmitter and then picked up the shortwave radio. I got the Tales stuff and what I needed to do next, but when I opened up the interface, I got some confusing stuff.
It told me that I needed to repair FA, MT, and PV but that FM was repaired. I'm moving stuff around right now so I have yet to check a transmitter, but is this a known issue? Any advice?

I'm in New England and have been skating on ponds/lakes/bogs my whole life. I now lead a Girl Scout troop and we received a generous donation of ice skates for all the girls. I want to take them to a local bog (that people have been skating on) this Sunday, but that day is looking to be 37F.
The past week has been 15-20F with the next few days leading up to Sunday at 30F (teens at night).
I know the ice doesn't instantly melt when it gets above freezing, but do we think it would be okay to skate this day or should I just wait for another cold snap?
