As I conclude my first full calendar year as Miso’s CEO, I want to share some of our recent company achievements and preview the months ahead. Detailed updates of this sort are part of our commitment to keep our community informed in multiple formats so that everyone can consume the updates in the ways that appeal most to them. We also regularly share company and market news in short emails, periodic email newsletters, live webinars with senior Miso leadership, breaking news through our social media accounts, and, debuting this year, online product demonstrations. As always, you can see the company’s audited and unaudited financial information at the SEC’s EDGAR website in the SEC filings we make multiple times per year.
This update comes during an unprecedented and challenging time for Los Angeles, the city that’s home to Miso and many of its team. The recent wildfires have disrupted countless lives, including members of our own team, and our thoughts are with everyone impacted. Everyone at Miso is safe, our facilities are unharmed, and we remain committed to supporting both our employees and the broader community in the months ahead. At the same time, we continue to focus on building a strong future for Miso and our stakeholders.
2024
We began 2024 with very ambitious goals, the most important of which was to design and launch a game-changing new generation of our signature AI-powered Flippy Fry Station robot that would include the most impactful changes to the product since Flippy evolved from flipping burgers to making French fries. This effort was constructed with the purpose of evolving Flippy from an “innovation project” into a scalable industrial robot built with all of the functions and features a modern restaurant operator would want.
As the first mover in fry station automation, we were able to leverage in this process our years of proprietary data, learnings, and customer input from both our prior successes and failures. This includes years of feedback and ideas from restaurant operators who chose to share these with Miso and no others.
So, while being a first mover can be messy in some ways, the experience also creates distinct advantages, and when the first units of the new Flippy took shape towards the end of the year, the results our team delivered exceeded even the wildest expectations. The new generation of Flippy came out half the size, twice as fast, quicker to install, and far more reliable than its predecessor.
Throughout this methodical design process, our team also drove performance improvements in our existing fleet in order to maintain and grow trust with our restaurant partners. At the same time, we invested in critical infrastructure, processes, and best practices with a forward-thinking approach to scaling installations in 2025. Those included:
A 50% reduction in monthly expenses since just prior to my start
Recruitment of experienced sales and engineering teams with track records of successfully scaling technology products
Growth of key strategic collaborations that provide validation of our work by some of the most important large-scale companies on the planet, such as NVIDIA (NASDAQ: NVDA) and Ecolab (NYSE: ECL)
A nearly 50% reduction in the cost to manufacture Flippy (and still improving!)
Newly launched 24/7 customer support in English and Spanish
An upgraded inventory management infrastructure
Continuing investment in new investor relations processes
Growth of our valuable patent portfolio with the first new filings in years
Cost-saving renegotiations of multiple key vendor relationships
A limited time, summer pop-up restaurant and innovation showroom by our Miso Innovation Lab team to provide a real world, consumer-facing laboratory for our engineers that also finally proved out for the industry a true semi-autonomous kitchen of the future where humans and robots work together successfully
Others took notice of Miso’s transformation as well. Major press outlets like the Los Angeles Times and New York Times highlighted Miso’s work, and the company and its team were rewarded with high-profile honors from the Los Angeles Business Journal, Newsweek, and others.
The result was 24 months of work in only 12—something which I believe few other companies could have achieved. When our team installed the first two units of Flippy’s new generation at White Castle locations in October before the holiday period blackout, it marked an incredibly gratifying milestone. It surely wasn’t easy or without its challenges, but there were tremendous amounts of major accomplishments to be proud of.
2025
Today, those first two next-generation Flippy Fry Station units in live operation continue to perform tremendously well with Flippy’s human partners declaring:
“We love the design!”
“He’s much faster!”
“Less food waste!”
And the restaurant market has never been more desperate to solve its massive issues of labor shortages and labor costs. Today, half of restaurant operators report being understaffed in the kitchen, and an unprecedented 20+ major operators declared bankruptcy last year. Led by California’s $20 per hour minimum wage in restaurants, over 25 states just increased their minimum wages at the start of this year. Clearly, automation is the solution, and AI is the tool that can finally make it achievable.
As we now turn our attention to the new year, our team is squarely focused on leveraging the new generation of Flippy to drive installations and sales. We’ve now scheduled the installations of our remaining initial units, and we’re finalizing our plans to manufacture at scale to support our ambitious sales goals. Meanwhile, our sales efforts, led by our new sales leadership, are in full swing, and include a recently signed order with a significant new national restaurant brand. We’ll have more announcements on both sales and manufacturing capacity in the coming months as our partners give us permission to discuss them publicly.
In the meantime, we are embarking on new work to support my mandate to evolve Miso from an early-stage company into a growth-stage company. Those include:
Investments in objective, third-party analysis to help our customers demonstrate and quantify their return on investment for Flippy’s new generation
Evolution of Miso’s board of directors to support us with the expertise needed to accelerate growth
Investments in our employees’ growth and modernization of the company’s compensation structures to retain and reward its best performers
Further reduction of our support costs as we transition to proprietary software and processes designed to support the new generation of Flippy
Continued optimizations of Flippy’s performance and reliability in keeping with our company value of continuous improvement for the new product
Keeping up with the dizzying pace of AI innovation happening today and continuing to be a major voice on that leading edge
We also know that we will face challenges, particularly in securing the equipment financing needed to create Flippy units for customer orders. With that in mind, we expect to launch a new crowdfunding round in the coming weeks, and details on this, along with other company news and announcements, will be forthcoming.

My new, out of state landlord, who took over my building in July 2022, waited 9 months, then put the rent up $100, from $500 to $600. Then Jan 1st, 2024 it went up $50 more dollars, to $650.00, but he provided me a new lease with that. He went me notice it will increase 6 weeks from now to $675.00, Should I ask for a new lease that covers March 1st, 2025 to next year, since I've been month to month for 3 weeks now, to cover my bases? If I don't, I'll be month to month at that price and they could increase it before March 1st, 2026, correct? I will be in this 2 room, kitchen & bathroom apartment for exactly 10 years, come May 1st, 2025. The previous, elderly landlord was my landlord for 8 full years until July 1st, 2022.

I felt great in his presence, I felt happy, I felt safe. We admitted we fancied each other, but as we talked more, we found out that our lifestyles aren't just slightly different, but completely different and we would most likely not work out in the long run, so we decided to stop pursuing a relationship.
