I really want to help him (besides advising him to go to a therapist), but I don't truly know what he's experiencing, so I'm hoping someone can give me some insight and/or help.
Me (F32) and my best friend (M38) have been friends for more than 10 years. We live in different countries, but once or twice a year we make a trip to see each other. He's always been the quiet guy with mental health issues and has always had bad luck with girls. His first girlfriend when he was 18(ish) killed herself and his ex-wife was a compulsive liar & serial cheater.
He divorced her 3 years ago and his mental health has really improved. For the last 3 years he hasn't self harmed, bought a house, got a job he loves, went to the gym and lost some weight.
But he just texted me saying he cried driving all the way home from work, because he's lonely and hasn't had any affection for years. He's thinking about self harm again and is really depressed. He just wants a nice girlfriend to hold him.
He's insecure about his looks, because he's a bit chubby. He has tried online dating apps, but it makes him feel more lonely, because he has 0 succes. He's been sober for 3 years, so he doesn't like going to the bar. He works as a barista and sometimes there's cute girls, but he's usually too afraid to say something. And when they do hang out, they just want to be friends.
How can I help him? And what are things that helped you guys through loneliness?

Maybe its because we have to boil ourselves down to a single sentence? Or your just typing something to hope will catch someone's eye? I honestly don't know what I'm doing anymore. I'm just trying not to type out into the void at this point. So yeah, I'm hoping to find someone to talk to. Someone maybe to connect with. As I'm sure we all are.
So a bit about me: I'm 38. Somewhat chubby bald guy with a beard. I'm a dad. I travel all across the US for work, but mostly the east coast, midwest, canada, and europe. Though I do have some clients west of the mississippi as well. I spend most of my time on the road so it can be lonely but I also like the space it gives me. When on the road I pretty much spend it trying out new restaurants after my shift and then playing video games while sitting in my hotel room. At home, I spend most of my time with my kids and then afterwards I try to get some quiet. I'm a pretty down low key kinda guy. I have started recently watching anime, but I've only been binging for about a month or two. I mostly play WoW or Path of Exile, but I have a ton of games on steam as well. I plan on starting Space Marine 2 soon. I used to play Warhammer 40k alot, but with my job its made the hobby hard to keep up with.
I'd say my biggest core value is improvement. It doesn't matter whether its my job, being a father, or just being better at video games. Every day. I try to be better than I was the last.
Honestly I don't know what I'm looking for. Companionship mostly. Someone to talk to now and then, maybe flirt a little. I like making others smile. And I try not to be an asshole, but I definitely am. Just someone I don't feel like I have to put up a mask with maybe.
I don't care who you were. What matters is who someone is now. The past only informs the choices to get to the present.

2025.01.23 23:04 Hayconi [Suggestion] Guys, I'm so damn tired of Lighthouse campers.
I'm a Timmy—I bought this game last week and have been grinding hard. I already have 100 net hours. I’ve got a lot FPS experience, so I trust my aim and positioning, and I think I’m pretty solid in close-range fights. I’ve managed to take down some chads in Dorms with Level 6 gear and even today i won a 2v1 against chads in the SOT Vet building.
But man, when I try to do Lighthouse tasks, it’s just pain. I deploy, three minutes later—BOOM—headshot from another universe, I’m dead. I run straight to my quest, claim the item, and try to extract—BOOM—bush camper, I’m dead again. I’ve lost around 2.5 mill in an hour just trying to do these damn tasks.
I know the map well enough from playing as a scav, but as a 100-hour player, I have no clue how to avoid this nonsense. Usually, if I lose a close-range duel, I just rage and throw punches in the air. But on this map? It’s like a jumpscare, man! One day, I swear, these campers are gonna make me fall off my damn chair.
Any tips for surviving this hellhole?

I’ve never experienced anything like this so I felt I had to come here. I’ve had a long hour commute this afternoon and once I parked, I realized that it’s extremely sore and painful under my thumb on kind of like the ball of my hand. I can’t stretch my hand and when I try, the pain extends to my palm. I was completely fine before I got in the car. What the heck did I do? Thanks to everyone in advance.

My year and a half old cat has been presenting some different conditions that could be symptoms of something I’m not finding online. I want to start off by saying I can go to the vet but I am a hypochondriac and don’t want to spread that to my cats as well as spend unnecessary money.
My female cat has been grazing instead of eating all at once. We got auto feeders two months ago and all three of my cats run when it’s breakfast/dinner time. My female cat however has slowly started eating less immediately and will eat the food slowly between feedings. This could be that she’s not hungry or that she knows she can eat slower and it’ll be available later on. I feed them treats regularly and she always wants it.
She’s also had looser bowel movements in the last few months. It’s hard to tell who is who with three cats but she had an accident so now we know.
With online research I’ve done she only presents some symptoms. She’ll eat and drink. She has no difference in energy level. If anything she wants more attention and pets recently. She hasn’t vomited.
With the eating less and couple months of diarrhea is that anything that warrants a visit or is it something they’ll tell me to wait out anyway? Thank you.
