2025.01.24 00:55 Fine-Preparation-691 AITA for blowing up at my friend? (TW: mentions of SH)
So I (18M) met Andy (21M) at our College's end-of-year Fun Day last year (in early May). We paired up for a scavenger hunt and won, which was nice. We never talked after that day, but I did always wave at him when passing by, and eventually, I started thinking, "Hey, he's pretty cute," and I was saying this as an asexual man.
Anywho, anyshoe.. skip to November. My depression and stress are at an all-time high, and my college starts a choir. I love singing and could use social interaction, so I auditioned, and low and behold, Andy's there. It's irrelevant, but I was the sole bass to audition; he was one of 5 tenors. So choir practice starts, and Andy doesn't attend the first few practices because of class conflicts. However, I kept him updated via text and casual chats. When he finally shows up, we start clicking fast and becoming friends fast. During a practice in another school one night, we were outside waiting for a food delivery (it was 8:30 pm) and talking about relationships with another friend. I explained to him what being ace was like and then our other friend (19M, Let's call him Kevin), who's bi, shifted the topic from girls to guys. And unprompted, Andy says to me, "If I was gay, you'd totally be my type....". I ignored it that night, but later on, I realized maybe he was interested.. so after days of being paranoid and feeling confused, my friend (19F) convinced me to ask him.
So I did. He said he was "straight, but no one is always straight" and was cool about it, saying we're closer now. In the following days, he started venting to me about his ex and how she had broken up with him. They remained friends, but he hated Kevin because he was close to her. I listened to him and helped as much as I could, talking him down from numerous thoughts of SH. I even offered to take him to see a therapist on my own (I have a part-time job, and he relies on his mom for money, so he wouldn't be able to on his own), but he refused. He even asked me to get him a job at my workplace, which I did by constantly bothering my bosses and risking my own job. (He's set to start next week). He eventually asked if the apartment building I live in (Most of our college's athletes live here, but I'm not one, but I got a room) had any open spaces. Unfortunately, they didn't; however, my ex-roommate had broken our contract in October, so I had a free space, and I offered it to him, even offered to pay 60% of the rent, and he wouldn't need to leave a deposit since I have one already. He said sure, and we started planning his move for Jan 13th. He even came to spend a weekend with me so we could start moving his stuff from his current dorm.
The venting continued, and I started getting tired; my crush was gone. He let it slip that his ex was 16. I had assumed she was 18 or 19... so I let him have it, i called him a predator and a weirdo among other more vulgar words akin to a file that could be opened by Adobe Acrobat (you can guess from there), to which he said, "Everything was consensual." I was like, Umm TF, it's not; she's a kid... I'm 18 and would never date a 16-year-old. He said, "You don't understand because you're gay-.. I mean asexual or whatever 'YOU PEOPLE' call it". I felt terrible. He went silent for a few days.
After about 4 days, I texted him to check on him, knowing his SH tendencies. He responded that he was ok and just busy. Our contact became sparse, and then 2 days before his moving date, I called him to ask what time he was coming. He said, "When I came to clean out my dorm, there was a welcome party at the dorm building for the freshmen that just moved in and it made me change my mind." I was thrown. Still, I just responded, "Sure, just don't be a stranger, man." He's been distant ever since; I offered to hang out this weekend (it's payday tomorrow), and he said he has plans with his ex. I tried to ask for next week or the week after. Still, he said he has plans then, too, and suggested I ask Kevin, saying, "He'd appreciate it more."
It broke me.. as I'm currently in a bit of a depressed state; no one in my life has time for me, all my friends ignore me, and I feel like I'm so isolated.. and I can't help but feel it's my fault. I'm too nice for my good. I love to cook, so I make cookies for my 30 coworkers 7-8 times a month and cook for my friends at our building almost daily (Mom is a chef). I do it because I'm ugly and boring, so people wouldn't like me if I'm not nice. It's so much to the point where I've been smiling and realize tears run down my face after 5 minutes.
Was I the asshole for blowing up at him?

whats up guys I am in desperate need for some advice. so basically there's this boy that started out as a hallway crush but now I'm literally I love, im head over heels as some may say!! i haven't had a proper crush in a very long time (my last crush was a straight girl so....couldn't ask her out) I've ever been asked out, asked someone else out, flirted or been flirted with my entire life so I kinda have no experience in this kind of thing. also doesn't help that im extremely shy.
because of my shyness, I was thinking I could give a note to my crush with my name and number on it (since we aren't friends and have talked like maybe once) I thought this would be the solution to asking him out wihtout having an anxiety attacks, but nooo. I had PERFECT opportunities these past few days to give him the note and I just couldn't. just thinking about it made me hyperventilate and have heart palpitations. does anyone have like a better idea of what to do? like is there another way I could ask him out that is somehow less scary???

Title says it. Sometimes. Well actually every time I see an animal i imagine having to fight it. Cat crossing my path or small to medium dog is this weeks field goal those are easy. Medium to large dogs are a bit more tricky, like I am confident I could wrestle a large dog into enough pain it would run away. I'd go so far to say that I bet I could defeat a caiman croc. You know the smaller ones. Definitely couldn't fight a grizzly though. Perhaps a black bear if I had a proper knife with me. I'd box a kangaroo if I had no choice but not near water they're notorious for drowning their enemies. So yeah kinda some weird thoughts just wondering if anyone else has imaginary fights with animals?

I’d like to get two larger plants, I’m thinking snake plants, to go on either side of our couches in the living room. There is a nice, large window in the space.
We have a few places around us where I could purchase them. However, what do I do upon bringing them home? Should I plan to repot them with fresh soil, or leave them for a bit to acclimate? I know the moisture of the soil and health of the plant will vary depending on how the store, but in general, are they ok in the pot they come in for a while?

My mother and I have an extensive history of not getting along. Right now is the worst because I don’t know how to keep to myself from not talking back to my mom. I feel like I always need to voice my opinion because I always disagree with her. She always blows up about everything. She has no middle level of being irritated or mad because she goes from zero to extreme rage in a matter of seconds.
I have always felt that I was not good enough for her. I always feel like a failure and incompetent around her. I always feel like I can't be myself around her without putting up an invisible shield and that I am walking on eggshells with her, just waiting for that one little thing to set her off. Not once has my mom ever really genuinely apologized to me, even if the stem of our fight was her fault. Every time we fight I end up crying. I just feel like she has no sympathy for me EVER and can never see or make an attempt to understand what I am going through in my life. Is my mom right? Am I just a lazy crybaby or do I have justification for feeling the way I do?
People think my mom is sweet and so nice. She is not either of those things. Lurking beneath the surface is a ferociously angry person who believes she should give people the pain she is in, intrude on privacy, scream, and make accusations of my behavior and character. Am I perfect? Definitely not. No good is done when people commit to yelling, name-calling, and threatening to get their way. These things erupt into full-blown crises over the simplest of things because there is a lack of patience and understanding of the way others’ minds work. People spill things. Sometimes they miss a spot when they clean it up. Is it worth it to damage relationships over something so small? Could I have been more careful not to spill? Yes. There are innate responses when trying to protect oneself from someone who cannot have a calm deep discussion. I have been traumatized one too many times by this unstable woman who has no self-awareness of how her actions affect people. She has fits of anger, and rage, screams at us, and says horrible things to us. I don’t know what to do and the worst part is that I never know if she is in a good mood or horrible mood. I live in constant FEAR! nobody even notices that i didnt eat any meals yesterday. or i didnt shower for two days and then when i finally did mom yelled at me so she could shower, then she didn’t even end up showering until like 2 hours later.
I am a springboard diver. I haven’t dove since the end of October because my parents aren’t willing or able to drive me to practice and games 4 or 5 times a week 60+ minutes each way. I used to take the train, have my coaches pick me up and bring me, and sometimes stay the night over there. They also say it is too expensive (850 every 7 weeks) and I understand that, but they actually haven’t paid anything since June, because I had to make a deal with the head coach that if I coached/helped around I could dive for free. meanwhile, my sister (who doesn’t even go to school because of her mental health issues,, but I also struggle with eating, showering, and depresion and no one notices) gets driven to her sport practice almost every day. (it is much closer tho) I started smoking, drinking, etc.i feel that my future is ruined because diving is not really a sport you can stop and come back to. I have lost all my progress and confidence, and at 14 I feel its really hard to start again. diving was the one thing that made me happy and it was my ticket to college. The whole reason i “quit” was because of my “bad” grades during the first quarter of school. I had an 80 in English and an 82 in computer science. All my other grades were 90s and above. Mind you, I also had to go right back to school right after my grandma died, even my dad admitted he knew I tried my best, but my Mom thinks its unacceptable, and I dont think she knows how much my grandma’s death affected me because she didnt like her.

Eyeing an asus vivobook because right now it’s on sale for about $400 cad but I have no idea of it’s suitability, I would like to stay under $500 cad if possible. Literally just for sims 4, my MacBook air can’t keep up.
