I can’t stop thinking about the parallels from the Kier lore and the beginning of LDS, which for intents and purposes was a religion founded in the US and the founder and his successors hailed as religious icons. The relationship with protocol, the mission to spread the ways and teachings of Lumon around the world. Have intentional layers of hierarchy and with that knowledge. The corporatization of the LDS, it being the wealthiest church or in the world, but no one actually knows how much money they have or how much they actually control. I also have thoughts on how the “waffle party” also directly correlates, but maybe a tale for another time. Let me know your thoughts.

does anyone else have “surges” of quick anxiety that happen hundreds of times a day about your dpdr? i will get these random surges of “icky” uncomfortable, dreadful feelings basically every minute. i wish i had a better way to describe it but it feels like i will be minding my day, and i’ll think to myself a random thought like “oh i’m feeling a bit better” instantly “but what if life isn’t real, what if you never get better?” then instant feeling of despair washes over me, almost like a slight wave of nausea mixed with panic mixed with dread. and then it goes away until another minute goes by and then it happens again and the cycle continues the entire day over and over. it makes me want to cry or rip my skin off it’s so f*****g uncomfortable and i can’t take it.

2025.01.24 05:21 falconbrad My R1S - A Two Month Retrospective
Picked up our 2025 R1S Dual Max in Midnight with Ocean Coast + Dark Ash Wood interior and the Sound + Vision package on 20" all seasons in late November of last year. After having owned a bunch of different vehicle makes and types over the years, I was really happy to finally be going all-electric. With excess solar production and a BESS at our house, I was (and do) really look forward to not paying for gas.
We have been a one-car household for several years now. The R1S was notionally purchased to replace a 2021 BMW X5 xDrive45e plug-in hybrid that we'd gotten after backing out from an early ID.4 preorder (the reviews were awful at that time). To be clear, I love the X5. It has been the perfect balance of electric range for the bulk of our around-town driving (both my wife and I work from home, so commuting isn't an issue). And when we want to take a road trip, we of course have the engine. With a surprise pandemic child (that caused us to move from a manual GTI to the X5) and now another child on the way, it was time to face facts - the X5 as a single car just wasn't big enough. I was holding out for something with at least 7 seats, plenty of storage, all electric, and with good range. And it couldn't be a Tesla. I was seriously looking at the Volvo EX90. Then I test drove my friend's Gen 1 R1S Quad and was super impressed, having previously said that I didn't feel comfortable purchasing from an unestablished brand. So I convinced my wife to make the switch and Rivian delivered our car days before my wife delivered our second kid.
I would say that in the last two months my overall feelings are mixed. I absolutely could have relented on some of my constraints and made a "safer" purchase and I can't claim I didn't know what I was getting into, but I'm still left feeling... disappointed. There are plenty of things to like about the car, and they're all the things that brought us to get a Rivian in the first place:
- The range has been incredible, just as advertised. I'm regularly getting >2 mi/kWh. But we live in So Cal and that's just about the best possible environment for an electric vehicle in every way. But yeah, being able to charge up and drive to, around, and back from Big Bear without touching a charging station is awesome. We'll stop by a RAN just to top up because we have free charging for 6 months but man, I love that.
- The interior design is awesome. I love the touches, the accent lights, the colors, the wood. Everyone comments on how nice the interior looks.
- The ride, particularly for a car of this type and size, is pretty damn good. There are a few times where I hit some perfectly-spaced dips on the freeway and catch some air, but mostly I like the feel and I think the different driver modes really do make a meaningful difference in the feel of the vehicle.
- The overall styling. This is purely a subjective thing but I think most people here will agree that the ID is awesome. Even my wife, ever apathetic to all things vehicular, likes the looks.
- Which brings me to my next point. I've actually been able to get her to drive it.
- The special features that work well, like the auto-kneel and the adaptive high beams and the dimming moonroof are all great value adds.
- I lowered my expectations regarding build quality but somehow I'm still disappointed. There are squeaks and rattles throughout the car while driving. Every time I grip the handle to exit the car, it creaks. Three of four handles squeak loudly on extend/retract, noticeable from a distance. The two middle headrests are just stuck. No amount of fiddling I've done has allowed me to adjust them. There are areas of stitching already looking worse for the wear (and exacerbated by the light-color seating). I will eventually sack up and take the car in to see if the service center can fix some of these issues but... even for a relatively new company I expect more at this price point.
- We really need to talk about the infotainment system. Friends, it's not good, and I didn't fully appreciate just how bad it was until I spent a few weeks living with it. It's not responsive at all - I have to tap buttons multiple times more than 50% of the time. There are some really questionable UX decisions - the entire climate interface needs to be rethought, pages and third-party applications have no real UI consistency, there is no way to add global shortcuts, etc. Third party apps are shitty at best - I use Apple Music, which consistently crashes, never shows saved searches, lacks the ability to add full albums to my library (just songs??), does not seem to store my favorites, is incredibly laggy, and sounds honestly insultingly bad with Atmos turned on. So then I decide I want to stream from my iPhone via Bluetooth and there is no way to navigate my library via the car - it just shows the queue and nothing else, forcing me to pick up and use my phone while driving. The garage door modal is fully broken on my car - it pops up on the driver display randomly no matter what settings I choose. I just removed the garage door opener link entirely to get it to go away. The system says my distance sensors are broken all the time - a hard reset fixes this. The system says my rear passenger door release is broken (it's not) - a hard reset does not fix this. I could go on.
- Which leads me to my next gripe. Oh my that sound system... I'm not an audiophile. But boy does the "upgraded" system in the R1S disappoint. I've gone back and forth between my X5 and the Rivian tweaking settings to see if I could get it to sound anywhere near as good and it is just bad. I like the sound system in my friend's Gen 1, which I now understand is a Meridian system vice the in-house one in my Gen 2. I honestly can't believe that they shipped this, again, in a car approaching 100K.
- Rivian knew that when they declined to integrate CarPlay/Android Auto, it was going to be controversial. And I knew, as a former Apple engineer and a frequent CarPlay user that it was going to be a little rough. I was (and am!) encouraged by the rate of SW releases even if I'm sometimes merely whelmed by the changelist. RJ has said several times something to the effect of wanting to curate the in-car experience to create an experience that feels "consistent and holistically harmonious across every touchpoint" but the experience that I've had falls so far short of that, I'm not sure where to start. The current system is missing so many features that I relied on, including many that you all have commented on. No messaging support, no voice2text, no native voice assistant (I don't need an assistant, just give me dumb voice commands like my BMW had with the inbuilt system), no Apple Podcast support, no arrival notifications like I used in Apple Maps, the list goes on. Maybe some of this gets fixed in the future, maybe not. If I had known had annoyed I would be at the state of the audio/infotainment in this car I would not have bought it. Some will say that's an over-reaction. I would counter that by saying that the CEO of Rivian thinks that it's an incredibly important surface, so much so that they want complete control over it. So here I think they need to own their failure entirely.
- Why why why is it so hard to open the center console? I thought I was going crazy and then my wife asks why she can never open it either. At least three attempts are needed to open that damn thing every single time.
- Bluetooth proximity lock/unlock almost never works for me. Holding out hope that CarKey/UWB makes this better.
- The $250 optional key fob is no better at proximity lock/unlock, and has about 1/3 the range of my BMW's fob.
- These are lower on the list but in direct comparison to a similarly-expensive vehicle, there are these quality-of-life things that I've found I really miss, like:
- Being able to kick my foot under the bumper to open the liftgate/tailgate when my hands are full.
- Having a power tailgate at all.
- Being able to remotely open the charge port from the fob or app (which seems like a no-brainer to me and is very fixable).
- Having in-built shades on the rear windows for the kids.
- Having a handful of programmable buttons that can be used for universal shortcuts.
- Truly fold-flat last row seating.
Oh and one parting thought. I really chafed at having to spend an additional 5K to unlock the performance mode on my car and ultimately decided not to do it. This is a personal thing - I really hate software-gating the physical capabilities of the system. I'm sure that Rivian did the math and figured that they would make more money this way, but I would have been happier to see them raise the price of the Dual Max by like an additional 2.5K over the Dual Standard and give everyone with a Dual Max the performance of the Performance Package. Just my ten cents!

Nothing I do seems to work. I have tried my Xbox Series S controller, Wii U Pro, Wiimote, Switch Pro Controller -- nothing connects.
A few things I read said I needed to install xpadneo but I can't find a way to do that. I'm a complete newb when it comes to linux and none of the install guides seem to work with chimera os.
Has anyone else had trouble with bluetooth controllers, and if so, what was your solution?

 | Hi all. Hoping for some help. My house has these two dwarf Leptospermum Lemon Hedge shrubs planted two feet away from the house. We are on highly reactive soil here (clay) and I'm always concerned about my foundation! These are just about fully grown height wise. I've been trimming between it and the wall mostly to spot any termite activity. I have the gutter there leading moisture away from the house which theoretically should encourage the roots to go that way however I am unable to find much info online about if it's safe to leave these plants here or if risk to foundation is too high and I should attempt to transplant them another couple feet forward. Would really love some feedback. These are the only plants in the ground against the house. Every thing else is in pots.
