The novels he wrote, Noli Mi Tangere and El Filibusterismo were not written to inspire the people of the islands into action against Spanish rule - rather, it was written in order to warn the Spaniards of the consequences of their mismanagement and hesitation to rectify the grievances of the backwards colonial system with its byzantine government and constant infighting between the Frailocracy, the Governor-General and the Native Population.

This system of interference, of unfounded fears, of unjust suspicions not only irritates and arouses people but also reveals to them the weakness of the government; for these fears are but a manifestation of its weakness . . . This conduct of the government injures the real interests of Spain, and by thus causing discontent, the government appears to be the first filibuster. And since we believe that a country cannot be served better than by telling her the truth, we are telling it to the mother country so that she may apply the necessary remedy. (qtd. in Palma 123)

In terms of his leadership, he was a passive leader if anything, and he usually cooperated with others preferring to use his influence rather than actually lead them. He was so passive, that many people hijacked his ideas and twisted his words to achieve his own ends. The only group he personally founded fomented a split that later formed the vanguard of the violent endorsing Katipunan movement. Some leader that guy turned out to be.
Though diplomacy may be the perfect fit for him, I suppose. Even though he usually bungled it up and lost control of crises.
During his trial, Rizal stated under oath that he stopped participating in politics since July 1892, a full 4 years before his eventual arrest.

Fellow countrymen: Upon my return from Spain I learned that my name was being used as a rallying cry by some who had taken up arms. This information surprised and grieved me but thinking that the whole affair was finished, I refrained from commenting on something that could no longer be remedied. He pretty much denounced the freedom fighters and demonstrated his inability to control his own image, being more of an idol than a leader. A leader in this case would take charge, especially when it comes to the use of his own person. But no, Rizal admitted he passively did nothing thinking the problem solved itself.
The mythology of Rizal and much of Philippine history was created to help form the identity of a relatively new country that wanted to reconcile its yearning for independence after the failure of the native government against the occupying American forces.
Much of Philippine history is heavily influenced by American perspectives through their attempt at nation-building. Spurred on by their own population's shock at the atrocities and betrayal of the 'American Ideals'.
Though I don't know what makes one a candidate for leader in Civilization as controversies will always exist in historical figures and many in-game 'leaders' were already dead when their 'nation' was born, I could offer an alternative that may be more appropriate.

I've done a lot of research externally to the game... And am not sure if I'm missing something or it is indeed a bug.
I am pledged to Yuri Grom.
One of my weekly PP missions is to hack holo screen adverts in 20 Ophiuchi. I have all of the necessary modules are know how to target and hack holo screen adverts.
20 Ophiuchi is one of my Power's strongholds.
None of the holo screen adverts in 20 Ophiuchi are targetable.
Can anyone advise if it's worth pursuing this mission or whether I should just go play another game until next week's PP cycle?

I’m trying to identify the brand or model of this sofa. It’s a 3-seater made of glossy orange leather with wooden legs. The dimensions are 220 cm wide (approximately 87 inches), 80 cm high (31.5 inches), and 90 cm deep (35.5 inches). One key detail is that the armrests are slightly rounded (as seen in the photo) instead of being completely straight.
I got this sofa for free and there are no visible tags or labels on it. Does anyone recognize this design or know the brand?

2025.01.24 17:50 Both_Economy_2692 Playing Reach and every minute or so, the brightness gets very bright for a moment before reseting.

I can’t take a screenshot because its so quick. Every now and then, every bright object on screen just suddenly raises in brightness. I think its called bloom? But yeah, it almost tints the screen white its so bright, then it goes back to normal, then it happens again a minute later.
I tried looking up a solution on the internet, and I have to assume I just don’t know the term for whats happening because theres no results for my issue that I could find. Any help?

2025.01.24 17:50 Lawtown978 Finally made the switch but had some issues

After almost a year of looking into USMobile and testing all their network on a secondary esim made the decision to switch my two lines todays
1: Darkstar with Factory Unlocked Galaxy S24. Ran into some issues with Visual Voicemail with the default app. Ended up installing Cricket Visual Voicemail APP. Not sure if there is another solution.
2: Warp with Factory Unlocked iPhone 14 Pro Max.
Current issue for both lines: After port initially land lines got a busy tone when dialing. It went away after a while however when I tried calling both lines from Google Voice I still get busy tone and call drops. I am wondering if other landline service providers may get busy signal as well? Has anybody ran into this before? Will it go away eventually?
