There is a 2 step to getting a job first is the getting an interview second is to pass the interview. Many people just tell me to grind LeetCode but to me that would help in the second step. So my question is what other things i can do to pass the step 1.
here is a bit about my self
1) I will be graduating with Bachelor in Computer Science Major
2) No Internship Experience
3) Academically I have average of B+
I have completed all the tasks given me in my academic life but never had a desire to do anything by myself. Don't get me wrong i thoroughly enjoy solving problems with writing code and i see myself as more task oriented person. As of right now I haven't applied to any jobs my plan is to build myself for the industry for 3-4 months than start the process of applying to jobs

A bit of context: I’m in my late 20s, living in a HCOL city, and I have a Bach in useless arts degree (2.7 GPA—I didn’t really know what I was doing in college) from a large state school. My professional background is in health insurance, and I’ve spent about 4 years in the industry, with 3 of those years as a Data Analyst/Coordinator.
Currently, I’ve just started as a Data Analyst II at a medium-sized health insurance company. I’m making $85k with a 10-15% annual bonus (roughly $94k tc). My role involves primarily working with SQL and Excel, but I’ll be learning Power BI and Tableau soon. I’m already fairly advanced with Excel, and I’m intermediate with SQL, though I expect to become more advanced in that skill as the role progresses. I have little to no experience with Power BI or Tableau but feel confident I can get to an intermediate level. My work mostly revolves around claims and state data, reconciling our databases to align with the states where our plan operates.
I’m really eager to upskill, and I have a strong interest in pivoting my career. While I’m skilled in data analysis, I also have good soft skills and really want to develop my leadership and managerial abilities. I don’t want my ceiling to just be as a high-level individual contributor—I’m aiming for a managerial or leadership role eventually.
That said, I’m also considering leaving the health insurance field for a few reasons. The industry is often complicated for the sake of complexity, there’s a pay ceiling, and... let’s be honest, it’s not exactly the most exciting field (maybe a bit of a shallow reason, but it’s on my mind).
On the positive side, my current company offers tuition reimbursement up to $10k per year. My plan is to pursue a Master’s in Data Science or Computer Science (online, fully covered) at my alma mater. After 3 more years in my current position, I’m thinking about applying for MBA programs in my area. I know that with my GPA and lack of direct finance experience, I’ll probably be looking at schools in the #35-#55 range, but I’m okay with that. My goal is to be making over $120k and in a leadership position.
I’m particularly interested in pivoting to a role in a mid-sized healthcare consulting firm, operations, corporate finance... (I’m open to other suggestions as well!). Worst case, I leverage my healthcare experience and go the managerial or LDP route in the health insurance industry.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on my plan. Does it sound realistic? Any advice or tips from your own experiences would be hugely appreciated!
