2025.01.24 21:12 johntash Omni + talos + vcluster for public-facing kubernetes cluster? Or best way to share physical resources for public+private resources?
Is anybody using a combination of talos + vcluster (from loft.sh)?
I have a few public-facing websites/apps (personal websites, mastodon, etc) that I host, but mostly have internal apps like Nextcloud, Silverbullet.md, Forgejo, HomeAssistant, etc.
Something I keep going back and forth on is whether I should host everything together on a single cluster or not. I guess what I'm worried about is something like mastodon/ghost/mediawiki/wordpress being compromised and somehow exposing personal files from Nextcloud/git or gaining access to my home assistant install.
Right now I restrict access by only exposing the internal apps through a vpn IP on a separate nginx-ingress. Public apps have their own nginx-ingress and ingress class with a public ip. I also have separate namespaces set up, but not much in the way of network policies.
For storage, I'm using longhorn. I'm also using Garage for s3-like object storage, and using that for backups from various things.
One of the reasons I'm avoiding separate physical clusters is the maintenance cost. I'd have to set up a bunch of cluster-level stuff twice (dns, storage, secrets, etc) so there'd be some resources wasted. I also wouldn't be able to share resources like storage or have as much flexibility with where I use cpu/ram at.
I also like the idea of only having one large physical cluster to manage. I'd like to eventually migrate away from proxmox completely and only install Talos on the baremetal machines.
With vcluster, it looks like I'd be able to create virtual private and virtual public clusters and keep them isolated from each other. There'd be a little bit of overhead with each vcluster having its own control plane, but I think that's okay if they can still share stuff like longhorn storage.
Alternatives I considered are using gvisokata (both currently broken on talos 1.8.x) to improve pod isolation, or kubevirt to create a nested cluster.
Hopefully that makes sense, I'm looking for any relevant experiences/tips/suggestions. Thanks!

2025.01.24 21:12 vbgooroo55 AAW steps...where to start?
Recently purchased a 68 Camaro. This car is finished but there are things that need fixing. When looking at all the wiring, it is all original but has been twisted, tweaked, cut and everything else. I would like to clean this mess up and add in Dakota gauges and eventually convert to an RS. I am very new to this and I'm no mechanic but can handle simple things but I've never done electric.
My main question (and probably my only question) before tackling this is how to get started? Do I just remove all the wiring and dig in? Do I only remove items as I'm replacing them? Any help is appreciated.

Looking for some advice/help from the experts, I'm a very basic computer guy. I hope this won't be too long, but I want to explain where I'm at in the process.
Old 3TB mac wasn't getting updates, tried the "unsupported mac" from OCLP, didn't quite work for me. So I bought a mew Mac with a 500GB HD. I know you can move and run photos off an external HD so that was my plan. So my question is, can I go into TM and move my photos to the external drive? If so, how?
Second, if I can't move them directly to the external HD, can I go into TM, find my photos, go into "show package contents" and move the originals to my external HD? If so, I'm assuming I would lose all my "events" and "Albums" and any meta data, which I'm ok with. I just need to get those pics to my new Mac.
Are there any other suggestions/solutions on how to do this? Any help is greatly appreciated. I have searched Reddit and YouTube and haven't found my answer.
If it's relevant, I have about 675GB of photos.
I also do not use iCloud to back up my pics, because I'm wary of them getting , somehow, accessed. I realize this might be paranoid, but if my pics were "hacked" someone could start a OF account with my wife pics, if you know what I mean.

Hi everyone,
I’m working on a story set in the U.S. about a secret resistance organization that fights against corporate greed, the concentration of wealth and power, and advocates for the underserved.
The idea is that, over the years, this group has quietly built a huge network of sleeper cells made up of regular people and strategically placed allies in areas like media, politics, and other key sectors.
At some point in the story, they decide it’s time to act. In a coordinated move, all these sleeper cells “wake up” at once, with a few revolutionary but ideally peaceful acts.
Since this is fiction, I think I can get away with a little suspension of disbelief, but I don’t want the revolution to feel too far-fetched or idealistic. I want it to feel like something that could actually work.
Two things are really important to me: 1. The revolution can’t get crushed right away. 2. Whatever “new order” they build has to feel sustainable and functional, not just a temporary victory.
For example, I was thinking they could pull off coordinated strikes or boycotts that really hit where it hurts—like if they caused a sudden, massive drop in the consumption of certain media, crashing its stock prices and forcing the company to cave.
Maybe they could rebel again censorship or biased information in social media by doing that and threaten to do it again if they keep hiding or misrepresenting reality. That’s obviously pretty simplified, but it gives you an idea of what I’m going for.
What would you have the organization do to revolt and struck the system where it hurts and disrupt the concentration of power, wealth, and information in a way that works during the revolution and afterwards?

I’ve been having a pretty good time writing with a Micron 03. It’s my first time using a fineliner. I’ve been loving it for the most part, but what irks me most is that I have to keep it mostly upright when writing. I can’t really write at an angle. If I do, then it won’t write properly.
Sorry if this is a very stupid question, but is this a thing with fineliners in general, or is it just the Micron fineliners? Can other fineliners write at an angle?

I don't usually post on Reddit but this thing in particular has been bugging me since I had to cancel my first order and I'm just feeling really bad about it.
It's been about 2 days since I ordered it, and something came up where I couldn't complete the order. Does this sort of thing inconvenience sellers, especially being notified so late into the purchase? I also know that a mark will appear in my reviews, and I actually already have a cancellation mark which I know will make me look bad as a buyer (but I did actually buy the item). So, I'd like to also ask if sellers look at buyer profiles to check their cancellations before allowing orders from them??
And if there's specific circumstances where you'd accept a cancellation and ones where you wouldn't, what would those be?

A different delivery person was holding a bag for “mystery woman” and the bag had roses, chocolates + strawberries, and a teddy bear. He handed me a card that read something like “Hi I’m the guy who helped you with your packages the other night, saw your apartment number on the box I was helping you with, my name is X and I’m Y yrs old, and i work as Z but sometimes i deliver food because i don’t like staying at home…. Please ignore this is you’re much younger or have a boyfriend, if not here’s my number” Texted the number saying thank you but i have a boyfriend, but i still feel uneasy - this is someone I do not know who has my address. Trying to do our annual T4 for our single employee (nanny) through webforms.
After putting in contact info, when I get to the form that asks what type of Filing, What Year, etc - there is literally no option under Filing type. It's an empty drop down... (normally this is where you choose T4)
I called CRA on Monday and they literally said it's a bug with their "new system" that should be fixed within the next few days. It never got fixed... if it's even a "bug".
Anyone else having this issue?
