Regarding a recent thread, why is anything sexual related we are talking rape, assault always centered on woman's. I know on male crime is a rather unusual thing, but still when it happens it's always a calm see. Even from sadly personal situation when I was 13 I got molested and raped by some 16 year old girl in Australia (I'm from Poland so it's a shit long trip I knew almost no one to help). 2025.01.24 22:53 lebnomis New hardwood install on old, uneven floors in a century home
Our 1930 house has original hardwood that is in really rough shape. It is thin from being refinished multiple times and it creaks and cracks a whole lot. Plus, the floor has a pretty pronounced slope towards the middle of the house, and it is quite bouncy in some spots.
We are planning a kitchen renovation, and weāll be replacing the hardwood in the process. Weāre going to be jacking the floor from the basement to try to get it closer to level, and weāll build a supporting wall to replace the old, dry-rotting beams.
The floor joists are about 14ā to 17ā on centre, they are 6ā to 8ā deep, and 2.5ā to 4ā wide. The subfloor is diagonally laid pieces of 1x10.
A few questions :
1 - I donāt anticipate getting the floors perfectly level. Along the inside wall of the kitchen, there will probably still be about a 5/8ā drop from one side to the other of the kitchen (about 15 feet). It is a fairly gradual drop, with no major high or low spots along the way, but it's still in no way even or perfect. Will this be problematic for installing new hardwood ? Will it adapt to the slightly uneven and sloping floor ?
2 ā I want the floors to be quiet and feel solid. Would adding a layer of Ā½ā OSB and screwing it through the subfloor and into the joists add structural integrity to the floor, and make it less bouncy ? Or will my floor always be bouncy regardless due to the dimensions and placement of my joists ?
Would simply screwing the existing subfloor into the joists and adding the new stapled-down hardwood on top be sufficient to treat these issues ?
I am a DIYer and this will be my first hardwood floor install.

2025.01.24 22:53 Single_Core QNAP client isolation or private vlan support
I have an opnsense router and a QNAP QSW-M2116P-2T2S switch. I've configured my vlans and set the correct access in my rules.
And nearly everything is working as expected, however I made an iot-net which contains some cameras and my solar inverter en various other "internet-only" devices. But I would like it that there is no communication possible between clients on this vlan.
Either I am blind because I cannot find this setting in my qnap switch or it doesnt support it, any ideas? Or am I overlooking something obvious?
Configuring this in opnsense isnt possible as far as I know, since the local traffic would never reach my gateway becauses the switch is going to well ... switch it ... instantly.

So Iāve been working on designs based on the ships from The Expanse, and I really like the PDCs in the series. I know the game already has energy PDCs and Flak cannons (the later of which I use a lot in my BSG inspired designs). But what Iād like to see is the ability for chainguns to track and shoot down incoming Missiles, EMPs, and Nukes (and not shells or energy weapons like Flak can). I know itās not the most useful idea, but I think itās kinda fun.
