The question is whether Loki is supposed to be underage.
He's technically 63, but giants age much, much slower than humans. We see Gerd and Hajrudin in Big Mum's flashback. They're 12 and 18 respectively, but still appear to be kids similar to the 5 year old Linlin.
The giants who do look old, Jorul and Jarul, are said to be 350 years old. If we say they resemble 80 year olds, you arrive at an estimate that giants age around 25% as fast as humans. If we assume giants mature proportionately, that would technically make giants minors well into their 60s by giant standards.
If we apply that to Loki: 63/4 is a bit less than 16, which would mean he's the giant's equivalent age of 16. He also doesn't seem to act very mature (although I admittingly assume they're setting him up to having been scapegoated).
I get they expect a lot of him, like that he gets married to Lola at such a "young" age. But tbh, Lola herself was 16 when she fled the engagement, as was Pudding in WCI. That seems to be a legit age to marry according to Big Mom's policies.
It also appears extreme to lock up a "underage" boy. But tbh, Momonosuke, Vivi, and Rebecca (who were in a similar role of being disgraced princess') were all similarly castigated for their (made-up) crimes, and they also were minors. That seems to be common in the One Piece world.
Anyone care to agree or disagree?

2025.01.24 23:59 mystery5009 I like Aron Beauregard's "Playground"

To clarify, the fact that I liked the book does not mean that I consider it good. It's a bad book, and I'm going to scold it.
It's a kind of 3.9/10 rated horror movie that you inexplicably liked.
Anyway, I just wanted to read this book, like, I saw it and thought: "Why not read it?".
In the story, three families are invited to test a new playground, but it soon turns out that they were actually invited to participate in a deadly game. Or in short: "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory + Saw."
I'll start with what I liked.
Events related to the playground. It was interesting to read how the children survived the traps, how they understood the work of the traps, tried to work together and calm the younger ones.
The characters, you worry about them (+ most of them are children) and they are written quite well. Not all of them, of course, there were those that were needed just to be cannon fodder, but still. Rock is especially interesting, trying to escape from the clutches of the main villainess-the foster mother, but despite his size, he is morally destroyed.
Traps. But this is more related to the conceptual part, because the way the author described them ... but more about that later.
Now about the disadvantages that make this book bad.
Third place, Villains. Geraldine and Fuchs are terrible, in a bad way. They are caricaturally evil, just too much, and infuriate rather than frighten. And if Geraldine has any motive, then Fuchs is just an evil Nazi scientist.
Second place, chapters 7-8. These chapters only serve to make the reader feel sick. It feels like the scene in the sewer from "It", only 10 times worse (in feeling, not in content). Especially chapter 8, which is Geraldine's backstory. And it's like this backstory was written by Shadman. If you ever decide to read this book for any reason, skip these chapters.
And the first place is the author's writing style. Written with such drama, it was painful to read. Most of the time I wanted to say, "What the hell are you talking about?". Especially the moments when he describes the traps. It can be difficult to figure out where something is located in a trap, what it looks like, especially the second last was terribly described.
In total, I somehow liked the book. It has good characters (excluding villains), the events related to playground were interesting, and the concepts of traps, but all this is drowned out by the author's terrible writing style, terrible villains, and disgusting chapters 7-8 that will immediately alienate the reader.

Hey everyone, I'm thinking of getting a sketchbook. Mostly to scribble, practice, make thumbnails etc, but it would be nice if it also could take some watercolor as well to include in sketches and practice certain things. Now I'm thinking, most 300gsm full cotton sketchbooks will probably be too expensive (and might only have very few pages), but maybe you have some cheaper rexommendation or something thats a nice middle ground between dirt cheap and low quality and an arches 100% cotton leatherbound notebook?

I relapsed so badly I don’t even know what happened. Especially with the free week from school (because of snow) I was basically just bed rotting and using character ai. But… we’re back to square one regardless. I went outside for a bit, and colored a bit.
I tried crocheting a blanket for my friends birthday tomorrow (the one who decided to quit c.ai as well) but I ran out of yarn lol. It’s been so hard for me to quit c.ai recently. Everytime I delete it I go back on it within the same day, idk what to do.

Hello all! I'm a 32(m) and I've been questioning it I'm aro for the better part of a decade. Thought tonight was the night to ask around. I've had a few short relationships in highschool but after that nothing. I've had very limited sexual activity as well and it's been many years since the last time.
I still want to be in a relationship but I think of them more as partnerships first. I'm not repulsed by the idea of romance but I'm not comfortable with the idea of big displays of affection. I've joked that id be great at being 3 years into a relationship/marriage before lol. Im not asexual but I've been fine basically being without it for close to a decade which I guess lands me somewhere on that spectrum by most definitions
Anyways. Qualifiers aside I want a partner for companionship and to help without how hard life is but I don't have a -need- to be in a relationship. The ideas of cuddling and being trusting with each other are attractive as well, and doing those things with a partner and having intimate moments with them feel like romance, or at least the part of what that nebulous word means.
So I don't know where all that lands me or if it would be appropriate to call myself part of the aromantic community. I think one day I will find a partner and I hope to make them happy, so maybe I can hang out until then at least.
I bought a cool pin as well with the flag, just to quietly support the community. I feel anxious about showing it but I want to.
