Ok so for some context, I have been 'dating' this guy since we were 12. I say 'dating' because it's not exactly like we were in a very serious relationship at that age, but nevertheless, the feelings were there and we had nervously admitted our feelings for each other. He had also been friends with a girl who was (and still is) probably one of my closest friends, which I am completely ok with, don't get me wrong. But for about a year and a half now, he's been talking about how he still 'loves' her as well. There was this whole thing where I would be asking him whether he could see himself with her more than me and the answer was always "yes, but she doesn't like me so it's fine" which led to him trying to ask her again in the hopes that she would magically say that she does. (She definitely does not, and we have talked about that. She did like him at one point for a little bit, however, but this was ages ago when they were around 10. He knows this as well) Basically, we spent a lot of time talking through the same exact things on the situation when he brings it up again, even when it feels like we've kind of resolved the issue.
I know it's completely normal as well for somebody to like someone else who's not a significant other, even when they're in a relationship, but this has been going on for a while and he has said to me when I've asked that he's liked her since the very start of our relationship. It's not like he doesn't still love me either, because he does and I can see that (as well as him reassuring me), it's more that he likes us both at the same time and I think I also just need to give him some sort of advice as well. He is a really nice guy and I think we get along really well together ad obviously, I'd love to be able to figure out a way we can both be happy together without having the constant 'thinking about other girls and if they would be even better' situation. But if there's a better solution, I'm completely open to it - I just want what's best for us, whatever that might mean.
Anyway, fast forward to now. We haven't talked about the whole best friend thing for a little while and I'd started to feel a lot better about it. But we've been on holidays for a month or so and he'd been seeing one of his church girl friends a lot more than me. They were in the same band together and had been on a camp for a few days. (No, there's nothing sexual going on there and that's not a possibility) But this morning he admitted to me (and I am grateful that he's open enough to talk about it) that he'd been feeling the same way about her that he had with my friend and wants to have some time (again) with us just being friends so he can 'make sure he's making the right choice' as if he needs to weigh up the advantages of us both before making a 'decision'. And that kind of makes sense and, yes, he thinks of it in his mind exactly like that. For example, he told me how he knows and talks to her family more than mine so that is a metaphorical 'point' that goes to her.
I'm just not sure what to think of it at all, to be honest, or if it's actually just a completely normal thing. But I'm worried that if I stay with him, these things will continue to happen and he will be unsatisfied with just me. I know we are young as well and that's probably a contributing factor, but I'm just needing some advice/thoughts from other people.

Good evening, my name is Lee and I'm 20 years old. Today I am looking for someone who would be interested in doing a long-term high fantasy roleplay. The initial idea I had in mind would follow our characters who meet in a chance encounter. Characters as well as any further plot will be discussed elsewhere, and so will any questions you may have. Below is a starter I've come up with for those who would request one.
Deep within a cave near the Glacial Spine, the mage would heave a sigh of mild irritation. Looking to his surroundings he could see the sun peering through the cave openings, the light shining down and illuminating a decent part of the cave. He was currently on a job from the local guild; his task was to gather Snow Drake scales, which were highly sought after for their resistances and usefulness in armor crafting. Hearing the skittering of clawed feet against the cave walls, he would sigh once again before preparing himself for the oncoming battle.
"Come on out and show yourselves... Damned overgrown lizards." He said, his words dripping venom as he looked to the source of the noises. Raising his staff he would breathe deeply through his nose before exhaling. āSupple spirit of water and princess of the streams that flow through the earth. Sweep away all that is before me with your hidden inner might. Water Cannon." With that incantation he sent forth a large concentration of water, washing away anything that may be in its path.
Staying on guard he would watch the direction from where the noises came from, his eyes scanning the walls and the various small cave passages. Hearing the skittering once again, the mage would scoff before spotting a small group. Preparing another casting he would raise his staff once more, holding it at chest height. āBlue Goddess sweeping down from the heavens, wield thy staff and cover this world in frost! Icicle Field!" With his second incantation the area in front of him began to freeze, ice and frost coating the cave walls. As the frost reached the creatures, they began freeze, their bodies becoming encased in a small layer of ice. Lowering his staff he would let out a small chuckle, approaching the frozen monsters with a smirk.
"And here I thought this would be a bit more difficult." He said, crouching down and tapping against the now dead drake. "They had the nerve to say this was an A-rank job, way to make me laugh." The mage said, his guard lowered as he then began to harvest the scales. Prying them off of the monsters bodies, he would tuck them away in his pack, storing them for when he returned to the guild. However as he continued to harvest he would begin to hear the familiar skittering once more; screeches accompanying the sound of claws clicking against the stone walls. Turning to face the noises he would be greeted by the sight of an incoming horde; ranging from ten to thirty Snow Drake's, outnumbering him and sealing his fate.
Rising to his feet he would feign a smirk, raising his staff and clenching the shaft. "King of Frost, supreme ruler of the arctic lands, sovereign wrapped in all white whose frigid cold robs all of heat. Freeze thy enemy, oh glacial king who governs death! Blizzard Storm!" With that incantation he conjured a mass of ice shards that fired off in all directions in front of him. Striking two and defeating them, the horde didn't stop in their advances. "Well... Guess this is it... This is how I die. In a cave, alone and as food for monsters I couldn't even get rid of." He said to himself, dropping his staff and closing his eyes, accepting his fate.

BACK STORY: My (23f) family has been close with another family since I was a baby. The other family has a son (23m) and a daughter (18f). When we were all kids we used to hang out all the time and play but as I hit my teens that family and mine grew apart. During my early school years the son (fake name:John) started to S/A me. At first I thought John just had a crush on me and wanted to be my boyfriend but as it went on it grew more serious than that. It happened for years going on borderline r*pe. I wanted to speak out so many times but he said we would both get in trouble for our āgameā. I asked him to stop on multiple occasions but he refused. Finally I distanced myself from him and the rest of my family for other personal reasons. I never told anyone except my fiance (28m) as I didnāt know if they would even believe me after so long. A few years ago when the daughter (fake name:Ava) was 16 her family started getting abusive and her parents were separated. Ava had ran into me again not knowing anything about the past as she herself was young at the time. We started to get close again and we became good friends. She started talking to me about things she was scared to talk about and I became like her mentor on life issues. When my fiance came into the picture a year ago when we first started dating she took to him right away. Shortly afterwards she would joke that we are her good parents, that we āadopted herā. We go along with the joke coz we love her and honestly I feel bad for her family life and i believe every person needs a safe family. During the past 2 almost 3 years Iāve never once really seen her brother besides him picking her up every once in a while and Iāve been totally fine with that. However because i believe she needs a safe place I would never tell her about her brother. Ava and John have a very close bond and they have always have. She loves her big brother and he does too. I canāt in good faith tell her what happened when she already has such a hard life so I keep quiet and just tell her we donāt talk anymore. However apparently heās always running me down and i just let it go and so does she saying Iāve changed since then. Itās fine though as I really donāt care what a man like that thinks of me when I know the truth.
THE PROBLEM NOW: Ava couldnāt really celebrate her 18th a few months ago (personal reasons) so tonight she wants my fiance and I to attend her party that sheās finally having. Itās a big deal because we are from Canada and 18 is the drinking age and she hasnāt been able to go to the bar yet. This will be her first night! At first I said yes obviously as we were super excited but then she informed me that John is coming. I kinda figured but didnāt really wrap my head around it until she said it. She then said she wants no drama and that we have to get along. My heart sank just hearing I have to see this man that hurt me so much. I quickly came up with a lie that we are broke and because of that she said people can pay for me. I kinda just said no Iām not comfortable with that and it sounded like she was gonna ask more questions but I hung up quickly just saying I loved her I couldnāt attend and I had to go. I have my phone on DND right now as Iām not mentally ready for the questions or conversation. I do feel awful though having to hide this from Ava and not being able to go tonight. I just can not physically sit in a place with a man so evil and feel safe or comfortable. My fiancĆ© says Iām ok and that she will understand the excuse but Iām so worried she wonāt and will pry even more and I donāt want to tell her. I really donāt want to hurt her but lying to her is eating me up inside. My fiancĆ© says itās my trauma so itās my choice but Iām scared that if I tell her Iāll either 1.) loose her cause she will refuse to believe it. 2.) wreck there relationship and cause her more family problems. I also donāt wanna keep having to straight up lie to her when she asks to hang out with her brother anymore and she doesnāt like that I wonāt tell her what happened between us but I keep telling her nothing until she eventually moves on. So I guess im asking people of Reddit should i tell her the truth or keep lying to keep her safe?
