Washington state’s first 2025 detection of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI), often referred to as bird flu, in a domestic commercial flock has been confirmed. A large commercial flock in Franklin County reported the suspected virus to Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA) officials over the past week.
The highly contagious virus spreads rapidly in poultry environments, causing severe illness or death among infected birds.
The large operation reported high numbers of sudden death in their chickens at one of their farms on Jan. 22. Other birds were lethargic and showing additional signs of illness, prompting an investigation by state and federal veterinarians.
The Washington Animal Disease and Diagnostic Laboratory (WADDL) received samples the same day and reported “non-negative” results. State officials label “non-negative” results as “presumptive positive” until confirmatory results are in. The results were confirmed by the National Veterinary Services Laboratories (NVSL) late Friday, January 24.
State officials quarantined the affected premises to prevent the spread of disease. Rapid, humane euthanasia of all birds on the premises is critical to contain the outbreak. Poultry products from the flock will not enter the food supply system.
With 54 flocks (51 domestic and three commercial) infected since 2022, WSDA Avian Health Program Lead and Commercial Flock Liaison, Dr. Dana Dobbs urges bird owners, commercial and domestic, to continue their dedication to enhanced biosecurity efforts. This includes bringing free ranging birds under cover if at all possible and limiting any exposure to wild waterfowl or places they congregate.
State and federal animal health officials monitor flocks within a 10-kilometer radius around the infected site for HPAI symptoms. Commercial flocks in that zone are required to monitor flock health very closely, with regular surveillance testing. They must also request permits from WSDA to move safe products out of or into the zone. Domestic flock owners in a control area are encouraged to self-report any illness or death in their birds to WSDA using the online surveillance self-reporting tool.
WSDA is working with the Washington State Department of Health and local health jurisdictions to identify people exposed to infected animals to provide prevention recommendations, conduct symptom monitoring, and provide testing and treatment when indicated. The first human cases of H5 avian influenza were reported in Washington state in October 2024. To date, there is no evidence of person-to-person transmission of avian influenza.
If a flock experiences sudden death or illness in multiple birds, use the online reporting tool or call WSDA’s Sick Bird Hotline at 1-800-606-3056. Birds that have already died should be double-bagged and kept in a cooler on ice until WSDA veterinarians can arrange for sampling.
Sick or dead wild birds, or other wild animals, should not be touched or moved and can be reported using the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife’s online reporting tool. <<

2025.01.25 01:09 LennyTheOG What is the correct order of doing things, to end Act 2?
So I (wrongly) went to shars gauntlet first before going to moonrise towers. I didn't finish any major quest there yet, because I realized that it was a mistake and went to moonrise towers. I did most stuff there and now I have to beat kethric thorn, which to my understanding, includes freeing the nightsong first in shars gauntlet... but I was specifically noticed that I should go to moonrise towers first.
Basically I'm pretty confused. The two main things I have to do in Act 2 now, are: bringing the glowing ball thing to this ritual space in shars temple after beating the big hell monster. And beating kethric thorn. My question is: can I really do this shar quest thing? because to my understanding, that quest leads to a point of no return, where all your quests get finished.
And does that also include the quest for wyll, to free his dad and the demon for mizora? And like other stuff, what does it really end all? I mean I'm pretty sure I almost did everything but I don't wanna fck it up.
Ah yes and side question: I'm newly level 8, is that high enough?

A couple months back I went to pay my mortgage only to discover it had been sold to phh mortgage and it’s been a pain ever since. My login seems to randomly stop working and information and services that were free with my old company now cost money. Wtf.
Then, today I’m sitting down to go through emails when I find one from phh saying my monthly payment will be increasing almost $200 a month. Looking into my escrow, only change is my home insurance as going up $800 a year. I am perplexed as to how an additional $800 a year comes out to me having to pay an additional $2400 a year.
I think I want to see if I can just pay my taxes and home insurance myself going forward because this increase seems so fishy. My old mortgage company I overpaid the escrow my first year since they over estimated the taxes and then the following years there was very little change from year to year.
What’s most frustrating about this is they seem to charge a fee to talk to a live person, but the first sixty days my mortgage was with them they didn’t charge any fees. They made this change right after I hit sixty days. And with one week of notice before my next (increased) payment is due.
Is removing everything from escrow difficult? In addition to property taxes and home insurance, I also have mortgage insurance and am nit sure who that is through so I’ll need to check my original paperwork.
Is it weird that they are increasing it more than double the increased charges in escrow? Could it be based on an assumption that property insurance is going to skyrocket? I’m in the Midwest so not really a disaster prone state.

It's been mentioned countless times before the going into PE post-mba requires prior PE experience pre-MBA.
In the highly rare ocassion where some small PE fund takes on an intern with no prior PE/investing experience, they would still need elite IB/MBB pre-MBA experience.
MBAs don't seem to be this magical career changer to elite jobs that business schools purport.
Since your pre-MBA experience will be the most important determining factor in your ability to obtain an elite job post-mba, what's the whole selling point of a prestigious M7 MBA when you are still so heavily reliant on your pre-mba experience?
Someone who did IB - > small PE fund - > Cornell MBA, will do far better in terms of getting an elite post-MBA job than someone who doesn't have elite pre-MBA experience, but is at Harvard/Stanford.
Maybe I'm just being naive but if you are paying so much money for an MBA and are going to Harvard/Stanford, surely you'd expect the name brand to help you, right? That's not an unreasonable expectation...
And yet Harvard/Stanford on their own are still not enough to get elite PE/investment management roles after the MBA.
Having elite pre-MBA work experience and going to Cornell for your MBA is far better than not having elite pre-MBA work experience and going to Harvard/Stanford for your MBA.
It seems pre-MBA experience matters a lot more when trying to get the elite jobs than simply going to Harvard/Stanford.
