2025.01.25 04:02 IZlandZadI Powerscaling Ihwa/Engen and Explaining how She's Evolving to Become Stronger than Elders
Out of all of the fight manhwas I've seen, Hero Killer is the absolute best at powerscaling. Seeing characters overcome one another is only satisfying if we know how strong they are or else it feels like plot armor bullshit. I see a lot of people get confused about who's stronger than who and some tier lists are spreading the wrong concept.
1) Ihwa is at least 2 or 3 tiers below Elders. 2) Ihwa is extremely dangerous because she surpasses the natural limitation of ANY Gift user. 3) Engen is still a "low Elder", but he might match Bishop/Victoria/Prim very soon. 4) Ihwa is one of the fastest growing Gift users in the entire story but she still has challenges to overcome and revelations to discover.
1)
Let's explain why Ihwa is still not even close to the level of Elders just yet. We know 100% that she's at least somewhere on the upper level of Special Forces or on the level just above Special Forces due to statements and fights she's won in the story so far. Right now she demonstrates overwhelming power against most Gift users similar to how Hekate overpowers her enemies. During their fight, Engen says "your sword is sharp enough to slit my throat". This means that Ihwa is at the bare minimum power level to conceivably kill an Elder. Terror Knight says "special forces are accomplished heroes who nobody, except Elders, can confidently win against" -> this means that Gift users on the level of special forces can possibly kill somebody far above their level like Hekate, Executioner, Dalia Mendoza etc. It all comes down to how their Gifts work against each other and the circumstances of the battle. We can see this demonstrated in Ihwa vs. Elder Engen. Throughout the fight, Engen slowly overwhelms Ihwa with the sheer amount of attacks he can output. However, Ihwa is still able to get a few good hits in because she used Majesty's gift. If she did not have a unique psychic-ish gift to deter Engen for a moment, she likely would've gone down without scratching Engen. Ihwa was only able to land a hit because she had a unique uncounterable gift at her disposal. Her skill, power, EST, energy etc are not yet at the level where she can do any meaningful damage to Elders. However, she does indeed land a hit because she had Majesty's gift which leads to my next point.

Gift users have to work with what they got. It is explained early on in the story that Gifts can be similar but manifest in different ways. We've also seen an absolute massive variety of Gifts throughout the story so there really is no limit to how many unique Gifts are out there. Imagine Hekate vs. Bishop. I imagine it would be very similar to how Ihwa vs Elder Engen played out. She can stand her ground for a decent time against Bishop's water gift but she can't really land any good hits due to the limitations of her physicality. Hekate's Gift (physicality) has a bad matchup vs Bishop's gift. However, if she was able to temporarily shock Bishop like how Ihwa used Majesty's gift against Engen, then she might stand a fighting chance. Except she only has one gift to use, but Ihwa has all the gifts in the world to use. She does not have the limitation of one singular Gift. Gift users can train their body but physical training only gets them so far (hence Hekate losing to Bishop's Gift). Ihwa won the fight against Torch Jintae but she actually would've very likely lost if she did not use Hekate's Bridle of Silence. At the very end, it looked like Jintae still had some EST/energy left to regenerate and keep attacking while Ihwa took a fatal wound and could barely move (even after rolling a 6 with Dicer's gift!). Objectively, Jintae was a much more dangerous and powerful fighter than Ihwa, but due to her massive collection of unique gifts, she can win impossible fights.

Yes, there is a gap between Elders. We can safely assume this due to the circumstances and statements in the story. There's three things: - Elders have a certain respect or disrespect towards each other - It is a stated and proven fact that the more a Gift user risks their life in dangerous battles, the more rapidly they grow - The display of power during Engen vs. Reagan and Victoria vs. Prim. (and a few other Elder action panels). ALL of the Elders respected Prim Anville enough to meet at the Starstruck Plateau when she REALLY demanded it the second time. We know that the law Elders follow the most is the law of power. Remember Victoria forcing Sledgehammer to participate in her gladiator arena? It's also obvious that the Elders have eyes everywhere and have been paying attention to things going on in the world. They've seen what Engen and Skysword have done so far and they clearly do not respect them very much. So far, we have only seen Engen risk his life in two major "battles" that resulted in his massive growth. Engen went from above special forces to pre-Elder during the Tower of Milen Kula and Elder after Castle Gray. However, the Tower of Milen Kula was more of a mental test that gave Engen a revelation and Engen 100% would have lost against Reagan without the intervention of Rachel Sinclair. Reagan is NOT significantly weaker than "high Elders" like Victoria/Bishop/Prim/Milen Kula. His strength distribution simply went towards another thing: Yggdrasil. Over the thousands of years Reagan cultivated Yggdrasil, he did not get stronger while the other Elders did. However, we can clearly see Reagan's unique "power" that his Gift enables: Reagan has an astronomical amount of EST/endurance with Yggdrasil. In the middle of the fight, Reagan is a bit injured after taking some attacks from Engen and then holds out his hand towards a branch of Yggdrasil and heals himself. He looks completely fine afterwards with no injures yet that was a small piece of Yggdrasil barely the size of a human. Had Rachel not hijacked Reagan's massive source of EST, Engen would've lost 100%. We can also see during Victoria and Prim's battle that Victoria is making holes in massive mountains with complete ease, as if the energy expense to do that is the equivalent of swinging a bat for normal humans. During Engen vs. Reagan, their attacks cover a massive area and Engen releases dark bombs that make large holes but they're not on the level of effortlessly destroying giant mountains. This leads me to believe that the pure amount of power that Engen has does not yet compare to the upper more respected Elders. However, Engen jumped so many tiers during Milen Kula Tower and Castle Gray. If he does it one more time he would surely be a menace to all the Elders.

Has there been a Gift user that grows as fast as Ihwa? The Elders took thousands and thousands of years to reach their current level and their growth has stagnated. Remember when Victoria said "nowadays, it's hard to take even one step forward" when meeting Milen Kula? Engen stagnated at "above Special Forces" for hundreds of years. We can see that the heroes during the Hero Trials Arc have mostly just been normal strength while Ihwa was "above Special Forces" while meeting them. Ihwa went from "wolf in sheep's clothing" to above Special Forces while Crimson Dragon, Prosecutor, and High Noon (and probably Raxfer too if he didn't get negged by Engen) seemed to stay exactly the same. Ihwa has been constantly putting herself in dangerous the entire story and has even died once because of it. She not only has the perfect Gift but also is extremely desirable by the people around her due to that exact fast growth. Why do you think Yushin trained her while she was still completely new? Or Engen taking special effort to take care of her during the early arcs? They knew her potential. Remember, Ihwa not only steals gifts but also physicality. At very beginning when Ihwa gets saved by the Nameless, Vector makes a comment about her bone density being higher after killing a hero. I don't think any other Gift user has that.
Ihwa went from weak but resourceful and crafty fighter -> weak and versatile fighter -> overwhelming power with limitations. She first had to figure out how to use her EST (Engen taught her focus and imagination). Then she learned how to utilize her gifts in more unique ways during the beginning of Castle Gray arc. Then she learned that she must train and take care of her body when she gave up all those gifts after the final battle with Jintae. And then she learned how to set limitations in exchange for power after giving up the Torch Fragment. Ihwa is constantly learning how to evolve and break past limitations. Other Gift users do this too. Engen learned something in the Tower of Milen Kula and discovered a breakthrough that gave him access to Raurava to evolve his gift. Bishop is able to manifest is gift in 10 billion ways because he's had thousands of years of experience with it. How does Victoria fly and move so quickly? She empowers herself with her light gift. "I will face enemies that have trained rigorously in one thing" said Ihwa. For those of you that are disappointed that her versatility and creativity is gone, don't worry - it's not. We only saw a small glimpse of it when she used Majesty's Gift against Engen.
And for goodness sake if you do a tier list then explain your reasoning. You gotta go off what you see in the story + statements + context. Don't just put Reagan in "low Elder" cause vibes or some shit.

I'm not going to write too much on this topic but here's the gist. I personally don't like books that change up Greek mythology in general, but this one really annoys me. The way TEENAGE demigods beat gods who have been here decades did not make sense, I get that they had weapons and stuff like that but come on. It was also very Americanized which I get making it modernized a little but just no. I was kind of hesitant about posting this cause people REALLY love this series and I started to think that I was the weird one because I disliked it, so I posted this to see if there are other people like me. If you like PJO I'm happy for you and respect you, again this is my personal opinion.

I’ve been wanting to quit for several months I consume about an 8th of flower a day and have for about 4 years. I’ve been wanting to quit for awhile now and every time I try I don’t last long. I have some pretty bad anxiety already and I get some pretty severe anxiety when I quit. I’m just trying to figure out how much I need to consume a day to taper off to ward off the nasty withdrawal symptoms? I don’t think cold turkey is an option for me.

2025.01.25 04:01 Bond000 What are some run of the mill anime that have one or more ideas, characters, soundtracks, arcs or plotpoints which were so good they stood out from the rest of the show?
Now and again, I come back to this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cxXxYQYSl2E) part of the soundtrack for an anime called 'Seiken Tsukai no World Break'. The anime itself was actually ok for what it was. And what it was was a school life battle harem with an OP MC, which were all the rage about a decade ago (they were churning them out the same way isekai is churned out nowadays, almost all of them with a frustrating lack of creativity, a paper thin plot and a cast of female characters made from the same few templates recycled ad infinitum). Honestly, the concept was pretty fun and it was probably one of the better ones in that genre. I'd honestly recommend you give it a watch if you're looking for something in that vein. It only got one season but I still remember this song. It was basically a leitmotif that would play whenever the MC was about to do something cool and it was so good it immediately stood out. They cooked with this, and judging by the views on the video, I'm not the only one who thinks so.
I definitely have more in mind, but what about you guys? What other, mostly average anime managed to approach peak in some form during their run?
