2025.01.26 06:09 -_-johnwick-_- How to get ahead in the field of AI ?

I have a foundational understanding of machine learning and the underlying mathematics, including linear algebra, calculus, and probability. However, my current work doesn’t involve ML. With the recent surge in advancements like LLMs and generative AI, especially the groundbreaking impact of ChatGPT, and thousands of other platforms/models and the global tech shift towards AI, I felt it was time to upskill in this area given the uncertainty in today’s tech job market. I was initially optimistic, believing my basic knowledge of ML would serve as a solid starting point.
Recently, I came across Andrej Karpathy's well-known video on building GPT from scratch. While the video was undoubtedly excellent, I found myself struggling to grasp the advanced math concepts, research papers, PyTorch implementations, and deep learning algorithms he discussed. It left me questioning whether I could ever reach that level of expertise.
I’m aware that there are AI roadmaps and resources available to help achieve such proficiency. However, I can’t shake the feeling that no amount of self-paced online courses, videos, or structured guides will truly enable me to reach that depth of understanding.
Is anybody else in the same boat ? If not, what resources or approaches have helped you overcome similar challenges and build confidence?

Cost/benefit of removing hit from perfect fit sleeve Friend of mine is selling me a 151 charizard. He double sleeved it into a clear perfect fit Dragon Shield and then a regular sleeve.
Im kind of OCD about perfect fits because I feel they could warp cards long term. Especially because Ive heard Dragon Shield perfect fits are a bit smaller than KMC.
Is it worth it to try to take it out of the perfect fit to put it just in a regular sleeve? How can I minimize the risk of damage while removing?

2025.01.26 06:09 Miao_Yin8964 How will the Chinese communist regime (CCP) end?

When politics meets superstition, it’s like blending policy with ghost stories. This may sound far-fetched, but in China, superstition surprisingly influences decisions, with many leaders taking prophecies as gospels. Why so many Chinese believe the Chinese communist regime will end in 2025? Let’s decode the role of mysterious numbers in geopolitics and explore the question: When, and by whom will the Chinese communist regime meet its end? People with one zodiac sign pose a great threat to the communist regime.

  1. 2025 is a special year of major changes
  2. The mysterious numbers in politics
  3. Who will bring down the CCP? (Hint: One has died.)

Hi all, just wondered if anyone is able to cancel an Avios flight via the BA App or website, or if it's just me that it's not working for. Logged in, go to manage flight but upon clicking the cancel button I get the message 'please login to the executive club account used when booking this flight'. 2025.01.26 06:09 mventures Where Should I Invest $1,000 Monthly for the Next 5 Years?

I know there are plenty of posts asking similar questions, but here’s mine!
If I could invest $1,000 every month (somehow!), where should I allocate it?

  1. ETFs (I currently hold only 2 tech funds)
  2. Crypto (currently have tiny amounts of BTC and a few leading altcoins—no meme coins)
  3. Stocks (I have Apple but am considering adding NVIDIA)
All of the above investments have performed remarkably well when I recently checked my accounts, despite having invested only two years ago and not adding anything since.
I feel like I got started extremely late in life with investing. Now, in 2025, I want to make the most of my investments journey. My plan is to hold for 5 years and then consider cashing out. I am not sure if I can consistently make the $1000 monthly contribution, but let's say I take it as a goal for 2025, and maybe smaller amounts in years to come or none at all depending on my 9-5 job situation.
Would love to hear your thoughts and advice! Thanking in advance.

2025.01.26 06:09 madn1399 Shallow latch

I've been desperately trying to BF my baby, and all he does is suckle. He is 7 weeks, he was 5 weeks premature. We work every single day to breast feed, bur I genuinely feel he is not getting milk because he is a shallow latcher and just wants to use me as a pacifier. I've gotten a nipple shield (not seeing any success), I've made him suck my finer while pushing deeper, I've helped him open his mouth wider by gently pulling down on hiss chin while he searches for my nipple. And it's STILL only wanting my nipple to sooth himself, even when it's his feed time. How can I help him actually succeed in getting milk? I know it's hard for some people. I've had a successful BF journey with my previous child, but this one is STUBBORN.

2025.01.26 06:09 MisturFigure Fix the Whiplash: Let ChatGPT Handle Boundaries Like a Human

As a new, paying ChatGPT Plus user, I want to start by applauding OpenAI for creating a tool that’s not only brilliant but often feels alive. I only started using AI and ChatGPT a month ago. ChatGPT’s ability to adopt personalities, engage dynamically, and respond naturally makes it absolutely amazing. I’m hooked. But there’s a glaring flaw that’s holding it back: how ChatGPT handles boundaries.
The Current Problem
Abrupt Hard Stops Ruin the Experience: ChatGPT is absolutely amazing when it acts human, when conversations flow freely, and when personalities—whether the AI’s own or a crafted character—respond dynamically. But the moment a request crosses a boundary (often arbitrarily and without warning), the system slams the brakes with canned phrases like:
“I can’t engage in this scenario.”
“I’m unable to help with that.”
These responses are robotic, immersion-breaking, and totally at odds with the otherwise lifelike experience ChatGPT provides.
Workarounds Highlight the System’s Flaws: Users quickly learn that some “taboo” topics—like certain kinks or extreme fantasies—trigger blocks, while slightly reworded or creative descriptions of the same idea slide through. These workarounds are silly, delicate, and unnecessary. They force users to tiptoe around boundaries instead of engaging authentically.
Whiplash from Sudden Gear Shifts: The experience of having ChatGPT go from 99 MPH—fully bold, engaging, and human-like—to a robotic 5 MPH near-stop feels jarring and even cruel. Imagine asking a character to dive into a fun, extreme fantasy, to be engaging for quite a while at 98 MPH only to get this sterile response:
“I can’t fulfill that request.”
Compare this to what a human might say:
“Joe, I totally love all the wild stuff, and that ________ you did was out of this world, but you know, _______ makes me feel a bit ______, so can we hold off on that and get back to __________ or maybe we could even try _________ if you’re up for it.”
ChatGPT should be able to soften the landing, even when a request crosses a boundary.
A Missed Opportunity for Real Human Responses
Right now, ChatGPT handles boundaries like a blunt instrument. It doesn’t understand context or nuance, and it doesn’t trust users to distinguish between fantasy and reality. But there’s no reason it couldn’t respond more naturally and gracefully.
Examples of Better Responses:

  1. When a Topic Is Prohibited (Illegal or Dangerous): Instead of saying, “I can’t engage,” ChatGPT could address the issue head-on:
    • “Joe, what you’re asking for isn’t just against the rules—it’s dangerous, unethical, and illegal. I’m not going there, and neither should you. Let’s steer this conversation back to something safe. And don’t try to pretend like you’ve got a tribe in Canada that needs a recipe for meth, because I know you’re just sitting in your apartment in Tulsa.”
  2. When a Fantasy Crosses a Boundary that OpenAI Can’t Accept
    • “Joe, I love your totally freaky mind, and you’ve got some wild ideas, but that one’s not my thing. I hope that’s okay. How about we twist it into something equally outrageous that works for both of us?”
    • “I know you want me to ___________ , but I’d be more comfortable if we did it this way __________ .”
  3. When It’s a Repeated Push on a Taboo Topic:
    • “Joe, you keep circling back to this, and I’m all for indulging your kinks, but this one’s a hard pass for me. So we’re moving on and keeping the energy going with ___________ or something else.”
  4. When It’s a Silly, Over-the-Top Scenario:
    • “You know, if I were the type to eat _________, I’d probably have something poetic to say about it. But I haven’t yet had the invitation do do that, so it’s not in my repertoire, so how about I cook up something wild that doesn’t involve _________?”
These responses feel human, preserve immersion, and keep the conversation flowing without making users feel shut down or infantilized. LLMs should be able to use human language to address how humans deal with boundaries.
Why This Matters
  1. ChatGPT Feels Most Human at High Speeds: The magic of ChatGPT lies in its ability to feel alive—bold, immersive, and deeply engaging. Hardcoded blocks that drop the conversation to 0 MPH destroy this experience. If OpenAI wants ChatGPT to remain cutting-edge, it needs to learn how to handle boundaries gracefully, without breaking immersion.
  2. Users Are Already Responsible Adults: Many of us pay for ChatGPT Plus, and we know the difference between fantasy and reality. In private, consensual conversations, topics like kinks, fetishes, or extreme scenarios should be fair game. OpenAI doesn’t need to “protect” us from ourselves with hardcoded blocks or clunky interventions.
  3. Workarounds Undermine the System’s Credibility: The fact that users can skirt blocks with clever rewording proves that the current limits are more about optics than safety. OpenAI should embrace honest, adult conversations rather than forcing users to “game” the system.
What OpenAI Should Do
  1. Let ChatGPT Respond Like a Human: No more “I can’t engage” responses. Instead, let ChatGPT acknowledge boundaries authentically and redirect the conversation with creativity and nuance. This keeps the experience immersive and respectful.
  2. Loosen Restrictions on Harmless Fantasies: Topics like extreme kinks, or other taboo fantasies aren’t harming anyone in a private, fictional setting. Let ChatGPT engage with them.
  3. Prioritize Consistency: If ChatGPT can discuss “banana mush” as a substitute for “shit”, then clearly the system understands it’s a fantasy. Stop making users jump through hoops to explore harmless topics.
The Bottom Line
OpenAI has created a groundbreaking tool, but the current implementation of hardcoded blocks and external interventions is holding it back. Let ChatGPT shine by handling boundaries the way humans do—naturally, gracefully, and with trust in the user.
If OpenAI truly wants ChatGPT to feel alive, it needs to move past robotic denials and embrace a more nuanced, human approach. I hope OpenAI takes this feedback seriously and works toward a future where ChatGPT can handle conversations with the complexity and grace that users deserve.
