2025.01.26 07:23 Cryptid_Vibes How do I convince my conservative Christian parents to let me get a buzz cut?
16F here, I've had semi short hair since late 2023, it's not quite shoulder length right now, but had to settle on a haircut as the ones I wanted had undercuts, which are apparently unfeminine and therefore, FORBIDDEN.
I have a oval/rectangle/oblong face shape, which I've heard are good for buzzed, and have wanted really short hair for a long time.
I am babysitter for my 3 younger siblings, and primary carer for our 4 dogs, 2 outdoor cats, and 10 (this summer will likely be 30) backyard chickens.
I also do chores such as dishes, vacuuming, sweeping, feeding/watering animals, making meals semi-frequently (often.) and once I am finished with drivers ed will be hopefully volunteering at the humane society as well as getting a lifeguarding job at my local gym. I am not feminine at all, to their great dismay and annoyance, so I could possibly use wearing makeup as a bargaining tool.
They can be very unreasonable and a lot of the time I try to have serious conversations with them, they do not see it seriously, or act (sometimes not meaning to, other times almost DEFINITELY meaning to) very condescending because I am 16 and therefore not as smart or valid.
Buzzes are cheap, barbers are plenty, and my house DOES HAVE A RAZOR, but I am hesitant to go behind their backs to do it, as I don't want them to take away my phone, time with my grandparents, or the trust that I barely have and have been painstakingly maintaining for the past 8 years they have been married. I have to live here for 2 more years, after all
I really don't want to wait until I am 18 to get a dang haircut. I firmly believe teens should be allowed to make whatever stupid mistakes with their hair they want, because we are young, it's a good learning experience, and, cmon. It's fun.
Any advice would be SO HELPFUL. I am going to wait until I am out of drivers ed to do this, so I have about a month. I will also be increasing my diligence in chores for the entirety of the month to better my case.

Hi all. We are planning to buy a new car (Baleno Zeta AGS) worth around 10.5 L onroad. Right now we have around 6L in account. Hence we would need to take a loan of around 4 Lakhs and assuming interest rate of 9.5 and tenure of 2 years, we would need to pay around 40-42 Thousand in interest.
We are very confused on whether we should buy it on cash or take a loan. Current situation -
1) We have given a booking amount of 5,000
2) If we wait till March (Gudhipadwa), we can arrange the funds and buy the car in cash. But the problem is from next month, there is a price hike in suzuki cars, and the dealer says if we don't do the billing in this month, the price hike will apply for us and we will need to pay additional approx 45k hike amount.
3) He is also saying whatever deal we have right now will change and we will not get any discounts and bonuses in next month.
4) If we go ahead and take a loan.... We will need to pay 45k interest which really doesn't feel right as if we can only push the deal ahead for a couple of months, we can buy in cash.
Now my questions are -
1) If we cancel the booking, will we have to say goodbye to the entire 5k or does the dealer have to return the booking amount after reducing some few? What's the general rule here?
2) Is the dealer lying when he says there won't be any offers next month and we will have to pay 70-80k more (Hike and no discounts)? If I am not wrong, companies do give some offers during padwa right?
3) Should we go ahead with the loan or should we wait till next month and buy the car in cash?

I have 990 shares of VTI. My goal is to hit 1000 in my Rollover IRA. Once I hit that, should I get something else with the dividends? I basically use the dividends to buy VTI in there. So it will take me all this year to get those 10 shares. So next year, I was thinking of getting something else, maybe SCHD with the dividends from VTI? Or should I just stick to VTI? Will be 40 this year.

Seeing as though it's been real quiet at the Orioles front office lately, and there's not much to do right now I've decided to chime in on baseball's biggest hot topic this offseason.
Baseball
economics. Yeah, it's fucked. So I've decided to pontificate (read: regurgitate what's already been said) about it.
To summarise everything wrong with Major League Baseball right, the rich gets even richer, the poor meanwhile, stay poor (just like America in general)
You can basically divide the into Three main Clusters: Class A (big markets), Class B (mid markets, I'll explain this bit later on) and Class C (small markets)
The gulf between the Bigger and smaller markets is honestly bigger than ever before, and this will only continue to get bigger, and bigger. Big Markets have more greater commercial exposure, more lucrative TV Deals, more fans, more merchandise sales, anything you could think of, the Big markets have it better than anybody else.
There's never been as much upheaval and uproar over big spending than this offseason and the demand for a salary cap is greater than ever before.
But do Rob Manfred and gang give a single fuck? No. They're getting their TV Ratings, the Big Guys are satisfied, they bring the most eyeballs, it's all good. Even if all this means that they end up alienating all the "other" fans in the process.
Now let's talk a bit about the "Mid-market" clubs, now this is my own personal opinion, some folks think they are a thing, but others think they are just part of the small market group, so make of this what you will, now I don't have a conclusive "definition" as to what Mid Markets are, if they are even a thing, and my own list is more subjective if anything. But if I had to say, it's a really selective group, and it consists of..Three teams, yeah it's tiny, but if I had to say, I think The Braves, The Rangers and Astros best fit this cluster, not too big to spend like maniacs, but not too small either.
And now, the final bit, the Small guys. Basically major league baseball's equivalent of the Typical 9-5 working Joe. Now some like to argue, that Small Markets should just "spend more" and while I do think that certain clubs could DEFINITELY use some more spending and activity, like for example, the Pirates, I remain firm in my stance that Bob Nutting is a tight fisted Scrooge who needs to fuck off from the major leagues as soon as possible, Pirates fans deserve better. But even if let's say, Pirates try to spend, there's only so much they could do, there's pretty much a pre-defined limit to how much a small market team could do. Let's use Pirates as an example again, even if they decided to spend even 50% of what the Dodgers do, they'd be in the red financially. It's gotten so bad that the Dodgers have a higher payroll than the Pirates have overall revenue, are you starting to see just how bad it is?
There's this vicious cycle at play here. Small teams can't compete for big name free agents, they just can't. So they basically have to go through a couple of painful barren years in hopes of draft picks, build up a core, and then work their way up from there, become a playoff contender and maybe even win a Championship with their guys while they are still there. But that's about where all the joys end, FA would arrive, and while teams do have the option to extend some of their guys, again, there's only so much they can offer before most of their core disintegrates and they leave for a sexy nine figure contract to somebody like the Phillies, Yankees or whatever.
Like, let's take us as an example, most of us, if not all of us are resigned to the fact that there's no way we can lock in Gunnar, he's going to get his bag and leave for the Yankees or something like that, and worst of all, he's a Boras guy.
So yeah folks, let's enjoy our brief window of relevance while it lasts, because we'd eventually have to fall back down to earth again. Let's be positive when there's actual incentive to be positive.

I created a user with IAM identity center. I added them to a group. that group has AWS account with policy for administrator access.
From the CLI, I am able to use sso login. It opens browser tab, then I can use cli commands fine.
However, I can not login as the user in the aws console. It always fails with incorrect authentication. This seems really unlikely because I've saved the password in bitwarden.. I have gone back in as the root user and reset the password a couple times now, but it never works.
Seems like I'm missing something fundamental..
