2025.01.27 05:18 PinRepulsive What keeps you going?
Been doing Spanish for ~500 days rigorously thanks to duolingo for schools, now I can have conversations with natives without any problems. Now with new update, I feel less motivated in finishing the course especially since I have already achieved a certain level and considering moving onto a different resource like mangolangages (free through my library). I think my biggest frustration is during days when I'm off my game; even when I get a lot wrong I used to be able to push through and get enough reps and progress in, but now I can't get even a fraction of that with only 5 hearts. Another reason I am considering this is because it is a general consensus that duolingo has a ceiling and people eventually end up adding supplemental resources in langauge learning. This leads me to wonder if it is worth investing in the paid subscription.
For those who are sticking with duolingo, what's keeping you here?

I have gambled for 4 yrs in 19 now, always been a good sports bettor but wld just gamble it on casino and lose more than I cld pay. I’m 19 now and got bailed out by some ppl who wanted to help. Not even a week later I borrowed money from ppl and lost the money I had to pay them back multiple times. I wld go up money every time but just lose because it was never enough. I was supposed to be a d1 athlete but this changed my life. I’m 19 and been gambling since I was 15. Now down way more money than I can pay again embarrassed to ask for help. Been doing drugws i never thought I would’ve and as far away from god as ever. I’m rlly thinking abt ending it. Not because I want the easy way out, I’m tired of telling ppl shit and putting my problems on ppl. Just tired or causing a problem and I think there life wld be better without me. So, here it goes. I am an avid reader of the UFO subreddits on here and have ran across multiple posts where people mention sleep patalysis and sleep paralysis-like sensations when they have had encounters with NHI. I've had, what I’ve thought was, sleep paralysis ever since my childhood years. Even several nights per week I wake up and can't move or scream and feel like an entity is in the room with me and there is always a humming or rushing noise. Now, this is considered normal symptoms for someone who suffers from this condition. My wife will often shake me awake because she knows I'm having an episode. There's a strange twist to my story here. The very first time I ever experienced this I was like eleven years old, so in 1992 or so, and was trying to sleep on the couch at my family’s lake house on Lake Erie. I had just finished watching an episode of Unsolved Mysteries on UFOs and abductions. So, an hour or so after that I experienced this sleep paralysis phenomenon and I was terrified because I couldn't move or scream and beings were around me. I only have vague memories, maybe real or maybe made up over the years, of what they look like but they were your normal ET looking entities. I've always written this off as an overactive imagination having just watched the abduction episode of Unsolved Mysteries and the intensity of experiencing sleep paralyis for the first time. Seeing so many experiences who have experienced stuff like this when they have an encounter it now raises the question of whether this was something other than sleep paralyis and if what I keep experiencing is…you know where I'm going with this. Can anyone else share their experiences and thoughts on this? What do you all think?

 | So radius wall caps are pretty labor intensive to fabricate but it’s always fun to have a mildly challenging project like this. If you look at the last pictures, you’ll see how we made the template for the curvature of the walls; just some strips of 1/4" ply that I cut down on the tables saw and staples together. I like this method better than tracing cardboard as I find it is more accurate. I learned this technique from watching counter top guys make a template way back. The material we used is 304 2b stainless in 26 gauge and it is fabricated in 3 pieces in ten foot runs: the face, the top, and the back. The edges are hemmed and kicked, the connecting edges are ran through a lock former, the pieces are hammered together, then soldered. VERY LABOR INTENSIVE! I (45) say this after showing up to what used to be the best sled hilll in town when I was a kid. There was literally nobody there. NOBODY. 36°F sunny day. My mother (70) and I were the only people there taking my great-niece sledding. There were literally lines there 10 years ago. My daughter and niece hang out on gorgeous sunny days.... they're on their phones 99.9% of the time instead of doing things outside. Drives me nuts.
