The news that Deepseek was trained with $5.5 million worth of equipment and was comparable to ChatGPT came out on December 26th. A whole month ago.
They used Nvidia H800 GPUs which are a reduced version of the H100 made specifically for China. They are about half the speed of an H100
The market reacted slightly back then but not very much. News articles were even saying Microsoft was pausing its data center buildouts with the assumption it was because of Deepseek and the possibility of needing far fewer GPUs. They also claimed it was 10 times more efficient
Does anyone know why such a huge reaction today when this is very old news?

I use AirBuddy to a great extent for APC, APM, Magic Trackpad, wireless keyboards, etc. One thing that it doesn't have, which would be really cool, is to be able to see the % of charge on an AVP's battery on macOS. Does anyone know of any tool that will do this? It would be super handy and I'd certainly be willing to pay for it. Thanks!

Wondering if anyone has used a roller blind bracket like the one pictured to do a retractable screen?
Looking to do an 8x8 screen with shank nets that come out 3 ft on either side. Would use emt pipe with bracket.
Thoughts? Would it work? Should I use 2” emt or would 1” work?

I have a well insulated house and during the day if it gets up above 30 the house stays really warm on the furnace. But it drops into the teens and single digits at night. Does anybody run their pellet stove early evening to the late morning only?

Went on a work trip to Hawaii (I’m in TN) for a work event. Was extremely clean the whole time - washing hands, wiping surfaces, eating, etc. I got home the morning of Jan 23.
My coworker who I was only close with on the day we left in an uber for 15mins ended up getting sick on the flight… she had to get wheeled out of the airport and stayed at a hotel. Ended up being what only could’ve been Norovirus.
I’m a big hypochondriac and gut stuff is my Achilles heel. I didn’t find out until today that she got sick. I’ve been feeling fine minus minor jet lag for a day or so with the 5hr time change and red-eye flight. Am I in the clear? Could I have obtained anything in that Uber?
