2025.01.27 19:22 tuftedtittymice Speak no evil (2024) as a remake of the 2022 film
as a stand alone film, i would definitely rate the 2024 film higher than i would rate it as a remake. dont know if this is a hot take but its mine so i dont care haha. i think that the remake took a lot of the intensity out of the original film. i was genuinely unsettled and scared throughout the entirety of the original, genuinely unsure of what was happening or what was to come. i think what made the original so much better was that it told more through visual storytelling as opposed to exposition like the remake. so many scenes were so unsettling, like the few times the visiting husband (im bad with character names, bjorn?) would look up and see damien just staring at him through the window in their bedroom. shots like those created a much more deep, unsettling, feeling. i think that the remake had less of that. those moments portrayed in the remake only came off as ‘odd’, but not in a deeply worrying way which i believe is what made the OG so good. in the remake the things the hosting couple did came off more as ‘cultural differences’, ‘parenting style differences’ and there was not reason for the audience to be very worried for the family. the vibe in the remake went from just sort of odd to them being physically threatened without great tension build up.
back to the exposition and blunt explanation of the situation…ie art showing agnes everything in the cellar, the little monologue the guy had at the end “oh you people and your electric teslas feeling so good for helping a family with a mentally disabled kid”… kind of made me :/ the best part of the original and what made it so shocking and dark is the fact that the couples motive genuinely was “because you let us.” it seems like that whole shocking line is contradicted when they made him go off on that little monologue. the original film couple was just evil for the sake of it and that is much, much darker and scary. i guess american films must have a feela-good ending for it to be poular?

TDLR: I need a suggestion for how to set a boundary with my mom regarding her out-of-character daily texts.
Background: I got married in October. I’m a huge people pleaser and have spent my life navigating my parents inability to regulate their emotions, lack of social skills, and endless complaints. I didn’t want a huge wedding because I had a feeling their personalities would make things more stressful. They pushed the idea of still having one, and while small and beautiful, they still managed to make the planning leading up to the wedding and the actual wedding day about them and pushed all of their anxieties onto me as I paid for and planned the day.
November: Once the wedding occurred and I had time to digest and process my feelings with my therapist and husband I decided to calmly and coherently address my concerns and explain to them that it was stressful to be texted and told about all the nagging things they were enduring as I was preparing for my wedding. They lashed out and said I was “selfish” and that by telling them they shouldn’t narrate their issues to me as I was preparing to get married “wasn’t fair to them” and that as a parent they “have the right to keep me informed.” My husband and I disengaged and left their house and I didn’t hear from them for a month. My dad used to send me goodnight texts, but he immediately stopped
December: My mom comes over on her own to chat. And cries and says it was unfair to come over and blindside them with my issues. That she had a great time at the wedding and wants me to know that and that she wants to move past all of this. I thank her for coming by and accept this was as close to an apology as I was going to get from her.
January: The holidays went fine, and we saw them for Christmas and a family dinner afterward. My dad pretended nothing happened. My mom did too.
—-THEN—-
Out of the blue I start getting daily goodnight text from her that aren’t just “goodnight” but instead are long winded stories about how xyz made her think of me, sometimes a dog video, sometimes a movie clip. And during the day I’ll get a random “so what are you guys doing today” or a narration of what she’s doing.
I said to her “mom I noticed an increase in texting from you is everything alright?” And her response was “just trying to stay close and connected to you”
I feel guilty that this makes me so uncomfortable and that I’m overwhelmed by her sudden peak of communication. And even feel like I’m doing something wrong by writing about this here on Reddit, soliciting advice from strangers but I’d love some help.
But how do I tell her that increasing the frequency of texting isn’t going to repair our relationship?

While perusing Kindle Unlimited, I stumbled upon Backyard Starship, a novel series about a hacker who discovers his deceased grandfather owned a starship and was a member of an elite core of Galactic Knights.
He takes up the mantle after inheriting the ship and thus begins 20+ books of his adventures.
On the one hand: They are a fun read. It scratches an itch I have: "sort of/kind of" first contact, galactic crime bosses, humor, etc."
On the other hand: The plots can get too dense. Some plotlines seem to falter and are never revisited. Sometimes, there are too many subplots.
Anyone else have thoughts?
Overall, I find it nice "comfort reading." I enjoy the world building and the frequent interaction with people from Earth (some of whom know about the other alien civilizations and some who do not).

Jeg er for nyligt flyttet og pendler derfor nu 80 km om dagen, hvor jeg før kørte 16 km. Jeg har en mindre bil som jeg mangler at betale 54000 af på. Jeg har penge til at betale den ud nu og derfor havde 1700 mere til rådighed om måneden. Lånet ville ellers være betalt ud i 2028, rente på 5.45% - den er købt fra ny i 2019 og den fejler derfor intet og alle service er overholdt osv.
Men eftersom jeg nu tilbringer godt halvanden til to timer i bilen om dagen, heriblandt en del køkørsel. Så har jeg overvejet om jeg burde sælge den uden at betale den ud og skifte til en lign bil bare med automatgear? Jeg kan ikke finde ud af om hvad der bedst kan betale sig. Den nye bil ville naturligvis have månedlig afbetaling som den jeg har nu.
Hvad ville I gøre i min situation? 😀

Trying to find a replay from me and my buddy from ealier this month. When sorting them newest->olders the dates range from 1/27 -> 1/24 and I cant scroll down.
However when sorting from oldest ->newest the range is 12/2 -> 12/4
Is there a way where I can see the all of the replays? Obvously it saved the ones from early in the month but why wont it load the rest? I feel like its user error but Im a goldfish at this point. I have no idea.
