I'm a 42m, and it's time for me to start dating again. I fully understand that I never needed to stop, but my dissatisfaction with my size for a long time just made it easier to just hide. I'm at almost the 11-month mark of being on Zepbound, and I'm down about 90 pounds in that time.
How are people navigating significant weight loss and lifestyle changes while dating?
Some specific scenarios I'm thinking about:
- Excess skin. I've seen a couple posts about this in the last year. Many of us have updated wardrobes and look conventionally attractive now. However, let's say you go the beach (or intimate time), that excess skin is going to be present and the other person may be surprised.
- Not drinking. It's a bit annoying how prevalent alcohol is in dating processes, even for people who don't drink a lot. I didn't drink much previously, but now on Zepbound it's just a bad idea. One drink and I feel like garbage. I'm not sober, and I don't have a problem with others drinking.
- Not eating a bunch. Loads of people use food as social lubricant. But I don't want to go to a restaurant someone is excited about and just order a salad or eat a small amount of something.
But in the context of dating, you're meeting someone who doesn't know that you've lost weight unless you bring it up. I don't want my previous size to have that much control of my life now. I hate the idea of starting every connection with a "I used to be really overweight..." conversation.
I think an ideal scenario for me is just meeting someone who was also on a GLP-1 drug. It would just signal to me so many things: ok, let's not focus on eating/drinking and we're aware that each others' bodies have gone through possibly significant transformations.
I would love to hear how women who are dating men prefer that the man handle certain things related to Zepbound and weight loss. However, I suspect the women here have substantially different perspectives than those in the dating world who have not been on a GLP-1 nor are really aware of them.
