2025.01.27 19:37 cstrombe2 Next phase for Austin?

I got the two free weeks that just ended, and now I'm back on the waiting list. Just curious if anyone knows what to expect for next phase, based on rollouts in other cities. Will there be more "free periods" as they continue to test/roll out the service in Austin? Or are they done testing and will just turn it on officially soon? Also any thoughts on if they will expand the service area?
I really enjoyed the free rides, even though my work and home are not in the service area--we drove to park various places inside the service area and then summoned the Waymo from there--so would be happy to see more "two week free ride testing" periods.

2025.01.27 19:37 wombat1772 Mislead by employer

Throwaway because I’m salty and want to remain as anonymous as possible.
I was hired into a lab without my certification a couple of months ago. When I was hired, multiple people told me that I would be hired as an uncertified tech and that once I obtained my certification, I would receive a small bump in pay (I was hired at the absolute bottom of the pay range). My mistake, I should’ve gotten this all in writing. I had one year to obtain certification to keep the job, but I was motivated by the increase in pay and obtained my certification in four months. Coming from a different field, this was a lot of work. Now that I have the certification, I reached out to my manager to inquire about my new rate of pay. She agreed that this was the case and told me she would reach out to HR and get back to me. They got back to me today and let me know that this was a misunderstanding and that I would not receive any pay raise for being certified. Unfortunately, I know that the answer is going to be to find a different job if I want to be paid differently, which I’m not able to do until at least one year in this position. However, I’m looking for a professional way to respond to this situation/wondering if it’s worth a response at all. The structure of this laboratory does not make sense as it appears that everyone is hired and remains at the same level, regardless of experience or type of experience level (MLT, MT, MLS) which doesn’t seem to be the case in most clinical laboratories. Word is they’re working on changing this, but who knows how long that would take. Overall, I’m just disappointed and frustrated that I put so much stress on getting certified as fast as I could. Again, I know I made the mistake of not getting this in writing, so a lesson learned there. Curious to see if anybody has advice or has experienced something like this before.

2025.01.27 19:37 Educational_One_4095 Swiggy SCAMMED me just now

I order a Burger since i was hungry since morning, i had only 78/- rs left only and i spent it all, i tried calling their support no help, they just keep on saying order delivered but it is not, the delivery guy doesn't pick up and the support is saying that it is delivered. I have cctv footage as a prove that. Basically i'm scammed, no help, paid it upfront since i was trusting of this big company but in the end. Now it's midnight i'm hungry as hell, frustrated and no help at all. Gotta sleep hungry tonight i guess. But i sure as hell did not expect that a giant company like Swiggy would be like this. I have been trying for almost an hour now.... Is there anything i can even do about it???

2025.01.27 19:37 grease_monkey 3D Scanner Tutorial

Anyone have good references for video tutorials on how to use 3D scanned meshes to design parts around?
I'm able to find things about importing a mesh and just printing, essentially cloning.
I'm more interested in something like scanning an engine bay and designing brackets or seeing if certain parts will fit to avoid having to do real world mockups.
I've seen videos of this but they aren't meant to be tutorials, mostly just "ok so i scanned this and BAM here's my protype"
Don't currently have a scanner but interested in seeing how it works in my application and if I can justify it as a shop tool.

2025.01.27 19:37 PowerfulPraline29 Staff lay offs - who will be affected first?

Hi Reddit, I am sensing my UN agency will soon start laying off staff including P staff, given the situation with the US funding. Those who experienced lay offs before or understand the system well, what staff contracts do you think will be affected the most? I am guessing those whose contract is expected to be renewed soon, those awaiting rotation this year, newer staff, etc.
I know no one can say anything for sure. I will appreciate any thoughts or insights from this community as I am writing this post while mildly panicking! Thank you.

2025.01.27 19:37 FewAbbreviations5783 Life after being layoff of public accounting

I worked for one of the 10 largest public accounting firms, which a private equity firm bought. Right after the transaction, they started laying off people even though they said they would not; I got a call before Thanksgiving saying that my position was no longer in demand and would be eliminated. This happened when the firm decided to increase the India team utilization for all tax engagements to a minimum of 60%.
This situation negatively impacted my life during the holidays. Still, I was paid until the end of December, and the company provided us with a career coach to help us with interview techniques and resume preparation. I paid for a professional to write my resume and LinkedIn profile.
From the moment I opened my LinkedIn profile, several recruiters contacted me. I landed some first interviews before the end of the year, which did not go anywhere but were essential to build up my interview skills. Beginning in January, I had another round of interviews with different employers and got two fantastic offers to choose from.
Things that I have learned with this whole process, and I would like to share:
1) To your employer, you are just a number. To your coworkers, you are also dispensable. After a week or less, your team will readjust to your absence.
2) The recruiting process is happening via LinkedIn. Companies and recruiters post available positions there. Even if you are not looking for a job, you should have a professional profile. I learned from career coaches that your network is essential and should be built over time; the best time to network is when you are not looking for a job.
3) There are lots of opportunities outside public accounting. I got two job offers for more money with better benefits and WLB.
4) Despite everyone here saying that AI and outsourcing affect job prospects, there is a shortage of accountants, at least in the Chicagoland area.
To conclude, I hope everyone affected by the layoffs was able to get back on their feet and say that working in public accounting was a unique experience where I learned the importance of a good night of sleep and what really matters in life. Although a very important step stone in my career, after working in public accounting for 14 months, giving my best to the success of the team, working long hours during busy season, many weeks from Sunday to Sunday, just to get a call before the holidays... FUCK PA.

2025.01.27 19:37 labsyboy Zimbra Community mail migration to SOGo...anyone?

Hi,
I know maybe not the best group choice, but Zimbra seems a bit abandoned, so I'll try here.
Zimbra Open Source has ended long time ago, we just have some minor patching and that's it. What I came across lately is SOGo, which looks very nice and promissing, but also lacks popularity and background. I read in their docs in few places direct comparison to Zimbra and Exchange, but not to other products, so I speculate it might be some Zimbra spinoff or OSS branch development.
So, what I am askng here is:

2025.01.27 19:37 Individual-Stuff-842 Who to target in rookie draft

Who to target in rookie draft Looking for advice on who to target in the rookie draft. Start up league, I was pick #12 and this is what my team looks like. I feel pretty confident with most of my roster besides TE and maybe QB (right now we can only hold 2 QB’s on our roster but talking to commish to up it to at least 3). I don’t know where I’ll fall at in the rookie draft yet but I don’t know who to target for possible TE’s or QB’s or if it would be worth it to make a trade for a TE depending on what pick I have. And advice would be appreciated.

2025.01.27 19:37 JanieMae_0110 routine colonoscopy 4 days before FET??

I have history of Ulcerative Colitis, so I get routine colonoscopies. I am 2 years over due for one and had a bit of a flare due to meds during before my ER. Everything is back to normal now but I wanted to get a scope done before my FET in March just for peace of mind. I just spoke with my clinic today and they told me my transfer was scheduled for 3/4, instead of the end of March like they initially thought. I have my scope scheduled for 2/28. Will this screw anything up?
I did call my GI to put me on a cancellation list to have the scope earlier. I also have a message into my nurse at the fertility clinic to see if they have any concerns about the procedures being so close to each other, but I wanted to see if anyone has ever experienced anything like this or has any insight??
Thank you!

2025.01.27 19:37 UniversalGardenSpade AITA for refusing to honour a customer's full loyalty card from the previous owner?

I bought a café business 10 months ago. When I first took over, I said I’d honour vouchers and loyalty cards from the previous management for a limited time. By August 2024, nearly all the old vouchers had been redeemed, so I put up a post on Facebook and signs in the window and by the till, letting customers know that we’d stop accepting the old loyalty cards at the end of September. I also offered to transfer any stamps from the old cards onto our new loyalty cards.
Yesterday, a woman came in, ordered a coffee, and handed me a fully stamped loyalty card from the previous management. The stamps were the old ones (I had deliberately changed the stamp design when I took over, knowing the policy would change after six months).
I politely explained that we’d stopped accepting those cards months ago. She got visibly annoyed and said I should honour it because she’s a “loyal customer.” I was confused because I’ve never seen her before—and I know all my regulars. I explained our policy, apologised, and even offered her a new loyalty card with an extra stamp as a goodwill gesture.
She doubled down, saying, “It’s just one coffee,” and insisted I make an exception. I told her that wouldn’t be fair to other customers who followed the rules.
She left annoyed, and now I’m wondering if I was too rigid. AITA?
