2025.01.27 19:51 powerrankingsnba Official /r/nba Power Rankings #7 (01.27.2025)

26/30 rankers reporting this week. /NBA's Power Rankings are published every two weeks which is a bit different from most rankings. Other than that we rank the teams the same way as our competition. If write ups are left blank the team rep decided not to submit. We encourage any user to fill in the blanks in the comment section.

# Team Ī” Record Comment
1 Thunder +1 37-8 Despite losing to MJ Washington and the Mavericks, the Thunder continue to stay at the top of the standings with impressive wins over Eastern powerhouses: Cleveland, Boston and New York. With a bit of a soft stretch in the schedule - the Thunder were able to ride through injuries to Cason Wallace, Isaiah Joe and most notably Isaiah Hartenstein. We're approaching the all star break which will be much needed to get some rest from the brutal workload and most importantly, we're officially approaching the Chet Holmgren Return Zone. Many people in this subreddit have been clamoring for a big floor spacing player like Cameron Johnson - but most of those people forget that we have exactly that coming back in Chet. I expect Chet will probably be back in a few weeks, and the Thunder should take another leap once he does.
2 Cavaliers -1 36-9 A 3-4 stretch that saw the Cavs missing 4 main rotational guys that include our most important defenders in Mobley, Okoro, Wade and LeVert, leading us to the 28th defensive rating over these two weeks on the backs of rotations that have defensive turnstiles Tristan Thompson and Georges Niang sharing the court. Thereā€™s a simple sentiment to give to the Cavs fans who think itā€™s over: relax. Our offensive rating was still 4th over this period, leading to a + net rating. No one has been named out for a long term, and the defense will return to form while offense will continue to be dominant. There are a couple simple truths though: (1) Without Wade/Okoro/LeVert, we do not have anyone who can guard biggeathletic wings unless we slide Mobley down. (2) If either Allen or Mobley go down, our active roster will concede center minutes to someone who shouldnā€™t be getting them on a playoff team. These give us obvious additions in the trade market, assuming we have the assets to buy anyone worthwhile while not deleting from our rotation elsewhere, or more likely, obvious buyout candidates when that comes around. Itā€™s clear that weā€™re less injury proof than a lot of top teams, so health and management will be extremely important in the dog days of the season. In the absence of LeVert, the idea that Ty Jerome needs to be playing a lot more minutes became abundantly clear
3 Celtics -- 32-14 The Celtics so far this season are the definition of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde team. Some nights they look like world beaters that are the defending champs, and other nights they're struggling against a team with their best players out, letting role players and G-Leaguers torch them. Since the last rankings, the Celtics are 4-3. They blew out the Warriors and Magic along with a win over the Mavericks, won an uncomfortably close one against the Clippers B-Team, and then lost to the Raptors, Hawks, and Lakers. Luckily the Cavs decided to have a slide as well and the Celtics, even though they're 13-10 over their past 23 games, are now only 4.5 games back on the 1 seed. Over the next two weeks the Celtics will play 7 times, with matchups against the Rockets, Bulls, Pelicans, 76ers, Cavs, Mavericks, and Knicks. In unrelated news, does anyone wanna bet that Travis Kelce proposes to Taylor Swift after the Superbowl if they win?
4 Grizzlies +2 31-15 Smart, Laravia, and Clarke...for who?! Seemingly not Jimmy Butler, but the Grizzlies have a problem; albeit a good one to have. Too many good players. GG Jackson has returned from his injury, with added muscle to boot and has had a great showing. Vince Williams Jr is still injured, but when he returns he is someone else that will see minutes in crunch time situations...having 12+ quality players is great, but does nothing for you in the playoffs which is where this team needs to be eyeing. A consolidation trade to eliminate future salary is exactly what is needed to lock in extensions for Jaren Jackson Jr, who likely will be eligible after making an all-NBA team this year, and Santi Aldama who has been a real 6th MOY candidate. Schedule is tough coming up, but the Grizzlies are looking great and primed to make a post season push.
5 Rockets -- 30-14 All this talk about bus drivers and bus riders, but this team is a rocket. No single person drives the success of the team, but each and every day someone different is showing up to get the win, whether it's the "stars" in Jalen and Sengun or it's the sophomores Whitmore and Thompson. This team has now proven that it can hang with the elite company of the Cavs and the Thunder in any given game, but the key to catch them will be consistency against the smaller teams.
6 Knicks -2 30-16 "Pour les vaincre, il nous faut de l'audace; encore de l'audace, toujours de l'audace! Et la France est sauvƩe." (To conquer we will need to dare; to dare again; to dare always! And France will be saved.) With these words Georges-Jaques Danton turned from a zealous Parisian Lawyer into the fist and voice of the 1792 French Revolution. After the success of the revolution just a few weeks prior, the sharks of Prussia and Austria began circled the headless nation. In rallying the citizenry and sans-culottes to protect the fledgling republic, Danton uttered words which would ring forever in the annals of oratory. I see the Knicks in those words. An earnestness to dare to be better each day, to exceed the past with the present, and dare to again exceed in the future. Every night there is a new surprise- every night a new Head of the Hydra awakens to snap at the mistakes of the opposition. Jalen Brunson and Karl Anthony Towns have dared their ways into being the first Knicks duo in 50 years to be named All-Star starters together. Josh Hart dares his way into each and every impossible rebound. Tom Thibodeau dares himself to play the starters nine less seconds, twice a month. Truly, miracles are upon us. Worth the mention- Georges-Jaques Danton would be dead two years after his speech, among the most prolific victims of the Ouroboros that was the Reign of Terror.
7 Nuggets -- 28-17 The Nuggets continue to stack wins in 2025 (except against teams that start with "M" and end with "innesota"), and the team has positioned themselves nicely for their relatively easier schedule in the back half of the season. Russ has continued to thrive in the starting lineup, so much so that Aaron Gordon is still playing the 6th man role two weeks after his return from a calf strain, and Michael Malone seems to have found the secret sauce with the Russ-Murray-CB-MPJ-Jokic starting 5. The point of attack defense has continued to struggle, and it remains to be seen if this team could slow down the likes of OKC or Houston in the playoffs, but for now the team has found a rhythm that's leading to wins.
8 Bucks +3 25-18 The Bucks went 5-1 and posted the 2nd best ORTG and the 3rd best DRTG on their way to a league-best +15.5 NETRTG over the last two weeks. Since the awful 2-8 start things have turned around, with only the Thunder doing considerably better over that stretch. They find themselves only 2 losses behind the Knicks and 4 behind the Celtics -- can the Bucks make a run at the 2 seed in the second half of the season? I don't see why not.
9 Clippers +5 26-19 The Clips are starting to find their rhythm with Kawhi back in the fold, going 6-2 since the last rankings despite an absolutely disgusting schedule (6 games in 8 days Adam Silver what the fuck is wrong with you). As we wait for Kawhi to find his shot, the team offense is still chugging along nicely thanks to Harden and Norman (please All-Star him it would be so cool). Defense-wise we now have the #2 ranked DEFRTG in the league, but that could be slightly skewed due to us beating the Nets by 59. It has been a good two weeks, however due to the West being a bloodbath, we are still hardstuck at the 6 seed. As the All-star breaks comes up, I'd really prefer if we start to create some space between us and the play-in seeds. However, the fact that we are still in a playoff spot to begin with continues to be a nice treat to a season that many thought that was lost before it started.
10 Pacers -- 25-20 Indiana's hot streak has cooled down slightly, but they're still putting themselves in excellent position for the second half of the season. The Pacers have gone 15-5 in their last 20 games, and the returns of Andrew Nembhard and Aaron Nesmith have given them an excellent source of perimeter defense and reliable scoring. Now the question remains: will Pascal Siakam get an All-Star nod? In his 10th season, he is shooting a career best 41.3% from beyond the arc, and gives an almost automatic 20 points and 7 rebounds a night.
11 Lakers +2 25-18 Shame on you if you put Vando in the trade machine as a Lakers fan (untestable yet SHAME), his return vs. the Warriors with 3 steals and 25 minutes of wreaking havoc showed how it would slot the defensive responsibilities of the rest of the wings and AD in appropriate roles such that the team can double down on this new defensive identity that they have settled on. Lakers have been a nice groove going on a recent 5-1 stretch (w/Top-6 defense) which included blowout wins vs. rivals in Celtics and Warriors. The emergence of Gabe to being a reliable backup PG with two-way output, Dalton finding his shooting stroke and Reaves striking balance between his playmaking and scoring duties have contributed to this turnaround. With AD openly vouching for an additional big, the Lakers may have an outside shot of making some noise in the West if they can land a big and/or guard to consolidate the roster, as they rank 5th in the conference. (If Pelinka doesn't upgrade the roster by the deadline, I shall be downgraded to OUT for the next Rankings, cos this might be the last year with an actual shot..)
12 TWolves -- 24-21 Wolves went 2-1 in rivalry week being able to beat both Dallas and Denver while failing to execute down the stretch vs Memphis on MLK day. The thrashing of Denver on Saturday put the Wolves in good spirits as rookie Rob Dillingham was able to shine with DDVs injury and Anthony Edwards was able to secure the Wolves all time franchise leader in made 3s.
13 Mavericks -5 24-22 The injury bug continues to add up with Maxi Kleber and Dereck Lively both injuring their feet. The Mavs look decently formidable when Kyrie is out there and when they play OKC for whatever reason. Players like Kessler Edwards, who is on a two-way, as well as Olivier-Maxence Prosper stepped up against OKC and showed flashes of what their value to the Mavs' depth could be while the team is recovering from injury. Dallas has Washington, New Orleans, Detroit, and Cleveland this week, which could either keep them afloat or sink the boat before facing Philly, Boston, and Houston the next week.\
14 Suns +5 23-21 By the record, its been a good two weeks. The team has been mostly healthy, the addition of Nick Richards has at least partially fixed a dire problem (I will miss you, Okogie), and both KD and Booker have had the mostly sustained high level production we've come to expect. But when you watch the games, itā€™s obvious that the team is far from convincing anyone they are serious. The wins have come against some of the worst teams this year with many still requiring crunch time heroics, games against good teams like the Cavs show just how outclassed we are, and the style of play can be infuriating to watch. An offensive scheme that would be out of date 20 years ago, but with flashes to show what it could be. A lack of team cohesion and player IQ that makes you wonder if they have even practiced once. Team defensive and rebounding effort is somewhere between inconsistent and non-existent. Maybe we get Butler, maybe someone takes Nurk, maybe Nick continues to overperform, and maybe this small sliver of momentum continues into the toughest remaining schedule. All I know is that without the rookie Dunn, whose game-to-game improvements is as impressive as it is unprecedented since he was made a starter, the 30-14 Rockets would probably be in the running for Flagg. A damning statement for a team that acts like the world will be ending by 2028. DON'T. FUCKING. TRADE. HIM.
15 Pistons +2 23-22 3-3 since our last rankings. Given the competition, I'll take it. However the loss to Orlando hurts if we are trying to make a playoff push as the final guaranteed seed. Cade's been looking great except he has had 24 turnovers in the past 3 games, including 10 each in games versus Houston and Atlanta - the first time an NBA player has turned it over 10 times in back to back games ever. Sure Amen Thompson and Dyson Daniels are great at defense, but he's going to have to real that in over his career. Funny enough we won both of those games. I'm not sure whether facing the Cavs on their 3 game losing streak is a good thing yet or not. Guess we will find out tonight...
16 Magic -7 24-23 The boys are all back (sort of). Paolo, Franz and Suggs have all returned to the lineup, albeit with minute restrictions, and the whole team seems revitalized. A 5 game losing streak led to a skid in the standings that leaves the Magic currently 7th but the upcoming stretch could get us right back to where they were before all these injuries inevitably took their toll. Lots of rumors in regards to trade deadline deals but nothing concrete. The Magic should look to get some offensive boost, particularly with the bench looking all sorts out of whack since Moe Wagner tore his ACL.
17 Kings -1 23-22 Although the Kings have been on a tear they're clearly having to play with perfection to achieve long term success. Severely undersized and with the recent injury issues to Fox this team must figure out a way to acquire help or they will be fighting once again in the play in game.
18 Heat -3 22-22
19 Warriors -1 22-23 Warriors are 1-20 when trailing after 3Q this year. Wut. The Warriors of the past that were a threat no matter how much they were down are no more. Its starting to look like FO is going to stick with this team but a move needs to be made if they even want to make the playoffs.
20 Hawks +1 22-23 The Hawks' current (healthy) forward rotation: Larry Nance Jr (center), David Roddy (David Roddy), Daeqwon Plowden (on a 2-way), and Dominick Barlow (center, on a 2-way). And Trae's achilles is flaring up again. And we still don't have word on how severe Jalen's shoulder injury is. But at least Vit's playing well?
21 Spurs -1 20-23 Our goods are good, but our bads are still butt ugly. Wemby's shooting slump seems to have dissipated, but his free throw rate has plummeted since his incredible 6 week stretch from mid-November to January (he went from averaging 4.0 FTA to averaging 2.3 FTA in January). To my eye, there are multiple plays a game where Wemby's been getting hacked and simply not been getting calls; sure, some of it stems from his perimeter-oriented game, but there were several egregious examples of contact not being rewarded for him in the second Pacers game recently that prompted me to do some digging in the first place. On the bright side, Vassell seems to have busted out of his slump and Castle has been more positive than negative on offense over the last few week, and we also got Sochan back from injury. The overarching problem with the team right now though is their tendency to get overwhelmed by massive runs by opponents in a few minutes that essentially put the game out of reach, usually in the third quarter. Here's to hoping that the team can grow out of this recent trend. The Spurs will have some opportunities for revenge coming up, with LAC, MIL, MIA, @MEM, @ATL, @CHA, and @ORL coming up over the next two weeks.
22 Bulls -- 19-27 LOOKING FOR A BULLS RANKER.
23 76ers -- 17-27 I legitimately do not know what to make of these Sixers. I don't think they do either. Their ebbs and flows go from droughts to tsunamis. When this team is on, they've been able to make convincing wins over the top 3 teams of the league both with and without Embiid. However, they're also capable of losing streaks like they had this stretch where they look unwatchable. Maxey has found his scoring ability, George has found his shot, and players like Eric Gordon are finally showing why they're still in the NBA in the first placeā€¦ but can they keep it up? What is the story with Embiid? I want to get off Mr. Bones' Wild Ride.
24 Trail Blazers +1 17-29
25 Raptors +4 13-32 PIZZA PARTY! šŸ•šŸ•šŸ• A lot of people are upset with the wins. I say enjoy them, we just had the worst stretch before this with ugly losses. I'm sure the trade deadline will make things happen. Until then, enjoy the Raptors baby! Scottie B, Bruce B, Chris B, RJ B, all the B's! They've been playing great and are such a joy to watch! LOUD RAPS NOISES
26 Hornets +1 12-30 I'm so tired of watching this horrendously coached team. Welcome to #30 Hornets. You will be here for the foreseeable future.
27 Pelicans +1 12-34 The Pelicans are 5-5 in their last 10 games, which makes it the best 10 game stretch of the season. This is certainly the epitome of too little too late. Brandon Ingram has not played in over six weeks. Trade rumors continue to swirl. Zion remains simultaneously as explosive and unreliable as ever. At this point many fans are ready for a new chapter in the franchise's much maligned history. In fitting fashion, they look poised now to at least play themselves out of the Flagg sweepstakes.
28 Nets -4 14-32 The tank is chugging along as planned. Who knew trading 2 NBA caliber players and replacing them with complete unknowns would cause us to fall off a cliff in terms of production? Well, it seems Sean Marks knew bc this is a masterful tank job after he made some comments indicating that the tank was coming after trading DFS. The Nets had a huge gap between themselves and the bottom teams when they started 9-10 on the season but since then, they have gone 5-22 and are now only 2 games out of a bottom 3 record. It seems the Wizards are uncatchable in the tankathon but the Nets could realistically finish with a bottom 3 record in the league. At that point, may the odds be in our favor.
29 Jazz -3 10-33 Now this is ethical tanking. Nightly, our injury report looks massive. Lauri, Sexton, Clarkson, Juzang, Collins, and sometimes Keyonte and Brice all sit for crucial tanking games. During a stretch of games that will heavily impact draft order position (games against BKN, NO twice, CHA), we came out of it 1-4. We've cemented ourselves as the second worst team in basketball. Keyonte George does not look like an NBA player, and Isaiah Collier has impressed with his new role in the starting lineup. Walker Kessler, one of the leagues most sought after young big men, is having a great year in multiple aspects. Cody Williams still looks terrible, and #sensaphrania has taken over the nation. We're halfway through the season, and the Jazz have never had a 60-loss season. We've also never had the #1 pick in the draft. Maybe this is the season where we do things we've never done before.
30 Wizards -- 6-38 "There was a brief moment during the Lakers-Wizards game last Tuesday, 11 PM ET-ish, where I questioned what I was doing with my life, staying up this late to watch a Washington Wizards basketball team. There really isn't a point in offering analysis for a team that quite frankly has no method to their madness. The team is in limbo until the trade deadline, with a lot to be learned when perceived safety nets within the line-up likely aren't involved. Will it lead to actual conversation surrounding the concerns and weaknesses when it comes to the young talent? Probably not as the fan base continues to blame Kyle Kuzma when Bilal Coulibaly goes 15% from deep in their last eight and while having not hit a pull-up jumper in his last eight games. Alex Sarr's status as rookie of the year front-runner will likely weaken with time as people start to recognize Memphis has two real candidates with Edey being healthy. But it has been nice to have him being this good so quickly. Things will only get worse with this season and right now, it is all about preparing for the worst. Don't watch this team play if you don't have to."

2025.01.27 19:51 DUNNmessingaround Attendance Roster with QR Code

I want to create an attendance roster using a QR code so I don't have to pass around a sheet to 100+ people for every class. The attendees should be able to scan a QR code that will have them input their first name, last name and an open field for a signature. After this is completed, I would like to be able to combine everyone's information and signatures into a document (Word, Excel, Adobe, Bluebeam) to be printed off for filing.

2025.01.27 19:51 Mobile_War_8357 Is Sukunas CE efficiency really as close to Gojos as Kashimo says?

We see that Gojo has at bare minimum less than half as much CE as Sukuna, knowing he has less than Yuta, and Yuta has half if not less CE than Sukuna. In their fight, Gojo drained his CE to Yutas level (after the reincarnation, imo it helps ur CE a little because with Yutas CE he should be able to just fully heal himself again) in a fight he arguably abused his techniques way more than Sukuna and still appeared to be relatively fine. Idk itā€™s hard to believe when Gojo spammed infinite, blue, red, and even purple that Sukunas efficiency is really that close to his.

2025.01.27 19:51 laughterwithans Feeling stuck

Hi all Iā€™m a 35 year old landscape designer with about 10 years of residential landscape design experience in FL.
I decided over the course of the last year that I want to make the jump to LA - ideally thru the ā€œ6 year ruleā€ that allows you to work for an LA for 6 years and pass the LARE without a BA.
Iā€™m getting nowhere applying to jobs as my experience and frankly my skill set arenā€™t up to par from what I can tell. I also have a pretty soft network with actual LAs vs contractors and nurseries.
If that means I have to go back to school Iā€™m not opposed - I just have no idea how that would work as an adult with a mortgage.
Any advice or direction is sincerely appreciated. I love this work and I want to help shape the way people interact with it. I have extensive experience in project management and sustainability in particular - it just seems like itā€™s not enough.
