First time working with electrical in my house, so I've been researching to make sure I have a firm understanding of the project before I start.
Section 1 - General Layout
Currently the room has a switch which leads to a ceiling fan. Layout
I would like to add Hue canless slim lights around the room, connected to the same switch as the ceiling fan. Layout With Lights. The ceiling fan is actually wired to ignore the switch entirely - I asked the installer and he said he doesn't wire the fan to the switch because it has a remote.
The attic is insulated with blown in insulation, based on the pictures of different products it looks like fiberglass. There is no fixed ladder or stairs to the attic entrance. Attic Picture. The amount of insulation does give me pause. Seems like it's going to be very annoying to work in.
Section 2 - Wiring Strategy
Question (1) Based on what I'm trying to accomplish I believe I will have to cut the wire leading from the switch to the fan and splice a new wire leading to the lights. Is this the correct / best way to accomplish this?
Question (2) Based on my layout, is it better to branch out in an H pattern or a U pattern or something different entirely? "H" Pattern. "U" Pattern.
Question (3) Actually running the romex, should I lay it along the joists or run it up and secure it to the trusses, creating drops whenever it needs to go down?
Section 3 - Wiring Specifics
Question (4) The room is on a 15A breaker. Is there any reason to use 12 gauge wire over 14 gauge wire? I've seen posts in other places suggest 12 gauge regardless as a safety precaution.
Question (5) Based on the wiring coming out of the fan junction the builder ran a 14/3 from a single switch to the fan. Can I connect the 3rd wire (red) to only the fan and switch to 14/2 for the rest of the runs?
Section 4 - Code Considerations
Question (6) For the splices not occurring inside the light junction boxes I was going to use the Rack-A-Tiers Open Splice Junction Box. Is there any issue using these?
Question (7) Is it okay for the romex and closed junction boxes to be covered by the insulation? The boxes included with the lights always seem to have a short cable, making it hard to secure to a joist.

My baby recently turned one and we are desperately trying to figure out the napping situation. I can count on my hands the amount of naps he has taken since birth that exceed the 40 minute mark. He consistently wakes up right at 40 minutes. At 3 months we were told it’s normal, 6 and 9 months the doctor said he will eventually figure out how to connect sleep cycles, yet here we are at 13 months and still getting 40 min naps. Room is dark, we do a routine before and make sure he has a clean diaper and full stomach. He has thankfully been an amazing night sleeper since 3 months old and consistently sleeps from 7:30- 7:00. We have sleep trained nights and been trying to sleep train naps for the last month +, but he still goes down screaming and fighting every single nap. Then wakes up after 40 minutes. We have tried to sleep train at the 40 minute mark by leaving him to settle back to sleep, but it takes him 32 minutes on the dot of screaming to fall back asleep. Then we maybe get 10-15 more minutes of a nap, so it doesn’t even seem worth it. I hate hearing him cry, but work from home so I can’t spend 15-20 minutes each nap getting him to sleep. We are at the end of our rope after hanging with so many friends who lay their babies down and then get 1-2 hours of naps without any fight at all. Desperate here, does anyone else have tips? Or solidarity? 😅

2025.01.27 19:37 EmergencyAd3319 How to remove moisture from kitchen? I just noticed that my rental does not have the extraction fan vented outside.
I just moved into a rental and realised the extraction fan has no vent attached. Will leaving windows open be enough to prevent moisture build up when cooking?

 | So, this is what my average day (sometimes worse, and never really much better) looked like before discovering these two doctors on YouTube, and after absorbing a lot of their info, the latter picture is what my day looks like now. What is your experience following a low carb (not necessarily high fat) diet? I'm just hopeful that my heart issues and neuropathic pains can now start to heal, my normal GP was never concerned but you know when there is something not right with yourself, and I got fed up following their crappy advice of "just monitor it and we may give you a pill". i’ve got a few in my 6’ tank but i want to make it really planted at some point. i’ve got some of anubias, java fern, and bucephelandra that have attached themselves to decorocks and are holding up well against my plecos, which are each 5”~8”. i wanted to put in some valisnaria and pearl weed from my other tank, then buy some stem plants.
my question is what other plants would prove strong enough to withstand their sucking?
would it even be worth it? would they get sucked up before having a chance to establish themselves? if possible, any tips on keeping them in place?

Hi!
wondering if someone could help me try and figure out how to use this integration: (https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/energyzero/) in order to switch on a device when the electricity price is below x and switch it off when above y?
i haven't used YAML yet as im new to HA. little bit confused by if i can use the "Price sensor with response data" example posted on the above to then trigger my device?
