Over at ESPN last week, before the results of the HOF ballot dropped, David Schoenfield looked at the top first-year and top returning candidates.
I definitely found of interest his discussion of Jones. Schoenfield, like everybody who wrote baseball at ESPN before Jeff Passan got there (not sure how to characterize Passan) is essentially a "Big Hall" person, and is also, or was for this year, an official BBWAA voter, so that's why I found this noteworthy.
I spent more time looking at Jones than any other player before deciding not to vote for him. In the end, I just don't completely trust the defensive numbers that prop up his WAR. Baseball-Reference credits Jones with plus-235 runs saved on defense (a combination of two different metrics, Total Zone through 2002 and Defensive Runs Saved after that). That's the most of any outfielder -- and the second most of any player, behind only Brooks Robinson.Let the discussion begin!
Willie Mays, as a comparison, is credited with 185 fielding runs (second highest among center fielders) -- but Mays also played many more innings. On a per-inning basis, Jones comes out almost twice as good as Mays. Twice as good as Willie Mays?! Sounds skeptical. When digging into the numbers, an interesting thing is that for most of Jones' career as a center fielder, Braves' left fielders -- first Ryan Klesko and then Chipper Jones for a couple years -- had unusually low range factors. It seems likely Jones was taking all the eitheor plays away from the left fielders, pushing up his putout totals. Since the Total Zone metric is an estimate, that gives him some eye-popping fielding numbers early in his career.
Jones was a truly generational center fielder, no doubt. But take a few wins off his WAR total and that puts him into the mid-50s, enough to make him fall short of the Hall of Fame to me -- not to mention that there are several more worthy center fielders deserving of Hall of Fame status in my book, such as Beltran, Kenny Lofton, Jim Edmonds and perhaps Bernie Williams (the latter three long gone off the ballot).
Personally, I think he's got something. I've long thought some of Jones' defensive sabermetrics were high, but didn't do the digging that Schoenfield did.

I´m trying to identify the function groups in a molecule, and there is this phosphate group but as far as I understand phosphate is known as PO4, and there is that hydrogen connected with one of the oxygen. After doing some research I found out that what am actually seeing is called monohydrogen phosphate, but now I´m not sure if that OH now makes a Hydroxil group or if still just phosphate.

I've spend the entire weekend grinding moments & objectives to make the TOTY MacKinnon. I blew up my team. I got the one 87 player I needed to complete the last set, (9 87+ & 2 90 Macs) and suddenly it seems like I need a 3rd 90 MacKinnon to complete the set(??).
I don't think there's any chance I'm getting 4 more 87's before the week is over (I'm not spending a dime on this game), so basically I'm finished after this unless anybody has a suggestion.
Was it 3 90+ the whole time?

I don't know why I did not recognized it earlier, but the last episode stroke me that the outie world is odd. I always thought it was sad and cold for the atmosphere, but I don't think that's the only reason.
- they all drive old cars from around the 80s. Why? Do we even know when the plot takes place? No variation.
- I can't remember smartphones or whatever. Maybe I missed it but I can't remember a lot of technology in the outie world in general.
- Dylan applied to work at a factory which is simply named "Great Doors". In a boring white lettering. Even though door factories are not very fancy in general, it was weird.
- Lumon itself, the whole building looks sterile
- Mark's flat of course with the two fish in the tank where nothing is in it but water
- There has to be an influence of Lumon on the outie world because of the "death" of Gemma. How did they get to her and how did they cover up her death?
Even though it helps to highlight the hopepless life of Mark and the emptiness he is facing, I think some circumstances are strange. The outie world does not look that different from the innie world. My daring theory is that the outie world is not real (either). Maybe the innie Mark is somehow the "real Mark". Not only because of this, but his innie is even more likeable (brave, compassionate, capable of love, funny, etc.). And the outie Mark is a "product".

Hello everyone! Wanted to give an update on my fast.
Long and short is... GOD I feel amazing. I cannot state this more emphatically.
Things I've noticed about my body..
- I've been cooking and grocery shopping for the family. Not even interested if the food. However heartburn starts to come. Especially at the grocery store. Crazy how our brain is wired. Sipping on water soothes the fire.
- I swear I can smell food through 5 brick walls. It is crazy heightened. Downside...I smell people's breath 15 feet away. Dude...people need to brush more.
- Had a forearm injury a couple years ago..just a bad strain. Hurts off and on. Three days ago it started feeling strange...like...not electricity or anything but...I don't know...slightly painful/fatigued/heavy. Today...it feels great. To get in front of the hate...I am not saying it cured it. I'll I'm doing is documented what is happening to me.
- Went to a festival this weekend and was walking a lot. Felt tingling in my left leg...on the outer thigh. Unsure what that was about.
- My lips get dry before I feel thirsty. So working on drinking whether or not I feel thirsty.
