I’ve been lurking in this community for a while, soaking in all your great tips, methods, and discussions. Your work has been a huge inspiration in getting me started with my own Commonplace practice, and I wanted to give back by sharing something I’ve been working on.
A little backstory: I used to obsess over having a “perfect” notebook, you know—immaculate handwriting, well-thought-out organization, color-coded everything. But after a while, I realized real notebooks are often messy first drafts, while those polished ones we admire might be the carefully distilled “final versions.” That’s what led me down the rabbit hole of commonplace books and, ultimately, here.
All of your insights inspired me to write a blog post on my Substack. Here’s what I cover:
- The history behind Commonplace books—how they evolved and were used by history’s greatest thinkers.
- Why keep one at all—how it helps with creativity, memory, personal growth, and leaving a meaningful record behind to others.

P.S. The biggest thing I learned is that if you’re new to commonplace books yourself, don’t overthink it. Grab any notebook or open your favorite app, and just start writing down what really speaks to you. It doesn’t have to be fancy. You just have to start!

For now, there’s a huge gap in stable and controllable results.
Sure, I can buy a shot from a stock video or generate one here when I need it for a quick transition.
Or make a city with people to use as a blurred background for a hero shot on a green screen.
I still haven’t found any solid video ads (well, okay, Coca-Cola did something) that use AI to the fullest—most of the time, it’s just being played as a meme (hi, Dove or Zevia).
What use cases do you see for AI?

Let me explain, it has nothing to do with cartoonish attacks or else here.
Luffy was originaly a kid with a really shitty df compared to other characters hé faced : logias, mythical zoans, manipulative df's...
But we all thought that Luffy was so much of a fighting genious that he was able to create insane attacks to take the best advantage possible of his df.
All the crazy techniques hé found, we all thought that he managed to find make them with a fruit as shitty as the gomu gomu no mi.
Compared to other characters like ace, crocodile, or even zoan users, Luffy was the most deserving character in the entire manga, and matchups like the one against Ener were hilarious (a god like df losing to a shitty one only because of the terrible matchup).
But nika nika no mi absolutely ruined EVERYTHING . Luffy was not deserving, it's actually quite the opposite, the kid got the immagination fruit and was only able to do that...
It just reverses everything, every matchup he got, hé was the one with the best cards in his hands, hé was the lazy spoiled child of destiny, and i think it just hit me HARD when se got :
Luffy vs Lucci 2.
For their first fight we thought Lucci was the one with the crazy df, zoan being the best df 1v1, but finally Oda showed us that it wasn't the case, and Luffy didn't humiliate Lucci because of his hard training and ingeniosity, hé humiliated him because he was the most spoiled of both.
So not only Oda brought things most of us dont like with g5 fights, but he also damaged a lot of what some of us appreciated from pre wano fights.
Bad in every possible way
