there’s this class i’m taking right now that i feel like i’m going to fail. should i just keep taking the class and do pass/no pass? right now i’m taking 12 units, and i’m worried if i drop it to 8, it will affect my financial aid when i get full pell grant and financial aid. i just don’t want to have to pay back the aid i received. i will be taking the 36 unit requirement for this academic year.

Three things hurt Veilguard's chances of success: hyperbole, inane comparisons and grifters.
It wasn't ground-breaking in many ways, but it was a stable game-ass game that had alright combat and varying qualities of writing. Folk have propped up worse writing and worse combat with more forgiveness than this, but at a certain juncture the statements made about the features and quality of Veilguard were extreme, and the small-brain echo Chinese whisper echo chambers did the rest.
Yeah sure it wasn't the writing we desired or the combat we wanted but also EA-suits tried to wring a single-player IP into a live-service one, causing vital staff departures before backtracking, sacrifices would've been made. Literally everything about the narrative during the years of the lead up screamed that it wouldn't be the perfect sequel to a beloved IP but what we got was alright and served to address some major narrative questions, sometimes well, other times less so.
Then came the comparisons and that goddamn SkillUp "HR" quote; "BG3 did this better! GoW did that better!" - okay bro, we get it. No one blasted CoD2's release back in the day and screamed comparisons to how "HL2 did this better only a year earlier" because it was ok for two games of the same genre inhabiting different niches. Feels like people just want to ride someone else's arbitrary goal-posts ad-nauseum because critical thinking left the building and reading the same "dialogue feels like HR was in the room" line sometimes posted multiple times in one thread was definitely sobering. We live in a world where Ride to Hell: Retribution was a genuine product that was once released and yet mass-outrage treated Veilguard like it was objectively the worst video game to be released. Mark my words, in 2/3 years time there will be YouTube essays called "Veilguard: The Misunderstood Dragon Age Sequel" or something or other whilst the IP gathers dust on the EA shelves next to Dead Space and Burnout.
Lastly, grifters. What a vile bunch of gremlins, treating this IP as if it was a right-wing darling up until now when DA has always addressed concepts such as slavery, indigeneity, gender, trauma, sexuality etc with a deft touch. Yes, the quality of the writing diminished the deftness of their approach this turn but goddamn did we play the same game? Is a character not permitted to go through a personal narrative outside of their purpose? Or did you reach the one dialogue option at the start that mentioning gender and saw nothing but red here on out, frantically typing out rage-bait and seeking validation across the web like the straight male hero the world definitely is lacking.
If DA2 released in this climate, it would've been torn apart. Being told that "Dragon Age isn't dead because it is yours now" sucks. People need to chill the fuck out or eventually the AAA gaming market will wind up being only regular releases of CoD, Sportsball 2kXX and Niche Swedish Dev Map-Game 17 and we can all just scream and compare them to their prequels until our premium oxygen subscriptions expire.

Which is better for my early game cold arrow act 1 merc? Damage on skystrike clears but I can’t tell if the other benefits from edge outweigh it. I’m a SSF melee barb and just don’t feel like using an act 2 merc though I know it’s the optimal choice. Will switch to harmony/faith eventually but want to use one of these two bows until then.

With a league that's losing fans and most people bandwagoning towards high market teams, why not allow every team to represent at least 1 All Star selection? Look at what baseball does. Take a page out of the MLB playbook for once. MLB representing every all star keeps just about every franchise relevant.
Why don't NBA do a better job marketing smaller market teams this way?

I got sick with covid this monday. I had to call out because the manager insisted to not bring it to the warehouse. Im like okie, another day goes by, im sick as a dog still. I call out again. No problem, they stress the fact they do not want it coming back to the warehouse. Then i still was feeling bad and had to call out another day. They say okay but you need a doctors note if you call out 3 days or more in a row. I say okay, arrange a doctors appointment via telehealth. Get the note. Then before i can even send ghe note i recieve a text letting me know that they are teriminating me because i violated their attendance policy within 30 days of employment. Im like "but you said it was fine, that all i needed was a doctors note". She responds "the district manager was already considering termination ur 2nd call out".
Im at a loss. I felt so blind sided because they kept telling me it was okay. Then suddenly im fired? This cannot be okay.

Hey everyone,
I was raised as a Master Mason recently and, around the same time, I also became Catholic. I’ve seen a lot of discussion about the supposed conflict between Freemasonry and the Catholic Church, but I don’t fully understand it.
At no point in my Masonic journey was I asked to give up my faith, nor have I ever felt like I was worshipping or praying to anything outside of my religion while at lodge. To my knowledge, everything has remained in alignment with my faith.
That said, I know the Church has a strong stance against Masonry, and I’m trying to understand why. If anyone can shed light on the theological or doctrinal reasons behind this conflict, I’d really appreciate it. I’m thinking out loud a bit here and hoping for some insight.
