Um... so yeah, I'm worried? And I don't want to speculate (he said, before five paragraphs of speculating) but Asura is a really easy character to get wrong, and here's how I think it's likely to happen, even is it was mitigated by DA's efforts.
On a surface-level look at both characters, Kratos matured and grew old and wise and moved past his anger - although he can still access it when he needs to - and is generally a calmer and more rational guy who warns people not to antagonize him. Asura is angry, his favourite thing is being angry, his favourite food is anger, and his favourite phrase is "DEATH TO ALL- (whatever is currently annoying him; napkins or self-scanning checkouts or grabbers on Jump Showdown in Fall Guys)" He solves problems by punching them really hard, and if that doesn't work, he punches them harder until it does.
And on a surface-level, this makes sense. On a surface-level, Asura is basically Kratos before he matured and grew wise. But re: anything past the surface-level - for instance, if you wanted to write the script of a six-minute fight scene involving the character - then that's horribly wrong and a gross mischaracterization, because of the difference in their actions. Kratos grew calmer and wiser because he needed to, because before he did that, he got millions of people killed, destroyed an entire civilization on a quest for vengeance (not to free the people of Greece from the tyranny of the Gods, but for his own personal revenge,) and was described by the developers as 'unlikable' and 'an asshole' by the end of the trilogy. You know, because of all the murders he did.
Asura, on the other hand, despite his anger issues, has been consistently heroic for his whole life. He doesn't have a single innocent body on his kill-count. He utilizes his anger to fight against evil. Even when he totally loses control and enters his Berserker mode, he only does so as a result of seeing innocent people slaughtered (including one who looked like Mithra,) and in his Berserker form, he only attacks those responsible! I wouldn't even say that Asura has an anger problem, because it's genuinely not a problem, it's incredibly helpful for him and for the good of humanity. He doesn't need to grow calmer or wiser because he's actually doing great.
I just can't help but feel that on top of making Asura the impulsive hothead who refuses to be talked down, and possibly even endangers innocents during the fight - which will make it cathartic when wise old Kratos puts him down like a rabid dog - then it will also be seen as an advantage that Kratos kept a cool head and learned to control his anger, when in canon, Asura never needed a cool head - and he certainly fought very efficiently with an angry one - and even when his wrath got out of control, he made the right choices.
There are loads of exceptions to the rule (Tatsumaki, Star Butterfly, arguably Green Lantern) but generally when two heroic characters fight each other, and one of them is a bigger jerk, then the jerk will go on to lose because it makes for a more satisfying narrative. (I said 'heroic' so no Black Adam VS Apocalypse.) And I just get the feeling from the fact that the script needed to be improved because 'they got Asura's character wrong' means that... well, even if the lines got changed, the fight will have been written with an out-of-character Asura in mind. And I was already pretty convinced that Kratos would win, because of lore-scaling shenanigans like... apparently he scales to the speed of the shockwave caused by a Primordial's punch? (?!?!? Why? What possible reason is there to scale him to that?) but knowing that the script was written with an out-of-character Asura kind of seals my prediction. Which sucks, because I really hope Asura wins.
Anyway, that's my five paragraphs of complaining/speculating about something that hasn't even happened yet and might not even be true. Just wanted to say it so that if Asura does lose and his actions are horribly out-of-character, I can point to this and be like "Neener neener, I knew it." Also apologies for DevilArtemis for looking way too deep into your comment. I'm sure you did a great job.
BONUS: If Kratos did lose, but they wanted to make it a nice story moment, have Mithra rush to Asura, who will be almost-dead, and have Atreus rush to Kratos' body, hold back tears, pick up his bow with his lip quivering and aim it at Asura and Mithra, and then Kratos uses his last energy to reach out to his son and say "No... Boy. Do not... make... the same mistake. Reject... the path... of vengeance. Be... better. Better... than I..." and then he dies while serving as an inspiration for his son (and us all) one last time.
