Hi all.
So I asked earlier about workstation vs hyper-v, etc to do some coding in. But it dawned on me that if I can run a hypervisor on bare metal, and start/run a couple VMs (e.g. windows, ubuntu and ollama vms).. maybe that is a better way to go. I have yet to see how all this works and if its possible. Asking a couple AIs (ChatGPT and Gemini) seem to indicate what I want to do is possible, so figure I'll ask the pros that have likely done this.
First thing is.. I have a 3rd gen 24 core threadripper with 64GB ram but will up to 128GB if this works. My current windows box is the 5800x3d cpu, 64GB, and 7900xtx gpu with 24GB. My 24core TR is 64GB ram and a 6900xt with 16GB.
I'd like to see if I can install ESXi (free as I understand it since its for home use) on the TR system, and then create 3 VMs. One would be Windows, another Ubuntu desktop and 3rd for inferring AI models. BUT, I would only run/use the AI stuff while coding on Ubuntu VM. So if its easy/fast/makes sense to shut down the Windows VM.. or even letting it run but idle (is that possible?) that is fine. My thought is, moving my 7900xtx GPU to the 24core system so I have two GPUs. I have a 1500watt PSU in that one.
So my scenarios that I want to know if this is possible:
* Windows VM for gaming/music stuff. When running this VM may or may not run the Ubuntu VM to switch back and forth throughout the day. I do this as I code on and off, but then switch to Windows from time to time to play a video game, watch a show, do some interwebbing, etc. I realize I can do this in Ubuntu as well but having both Windows and Ubuntu VMs I'd rather do the web/gaming/music stuff in Windows. Most importantly is can I game at near native speeds? I am ok losing 10% or so frame rate.. I mostly play games that dont use high fps, though I do have some racing sims/etc I'd probably like to run at max fps, but that's rare. I may also set up a separate gaming rig for that (e.g. use the 5800x3d with some updated 5070 gpu down the road as a dedicated gaming setup for that stuff).
* Ubuntu VM for coding. When using this VM, I may swap back and forth (as I said above) to Windows, but if the VMs can start/stop quickly enough, then I'd likely shut down the Windows VM. More so because I want to run the ollama VM for inferring and use BOTH GPUS if possible (see next one).
* Ollama VM.. basically thinking having two pretty decent GPUs and all the hype around DeepSeek R1 and such now, was thinking it would be great to run a 32B or maybe 64B with RAM/GPU RAM if possible model, on the two GPUs while coding in Ubuntu. First is this even possible.. can a VM be configured to use BOTH GPUs in the system so that the ollama service can use them both? Second.. if I do this, can the Ubuntu VM still run? Or would it be better to NOT have a separate VM and just run docker inside of my Ubuntu VM (and if that is so, can IT use two GPUs)?
I think running ollama in a docker container in the Ubuntu VM makes more sense as I would imagine the configuration of using two GPUs in the one ollaman VM while ALSO using the main GPU (with HDMI wired to monitor) might poise a problem? As well, it's easy enough to spin up the docker container whenever I want to run the model inference.. and suspect it will be less configuration/concerns of hardware vs a 3rd VM in hypervisor.
Outside of that.. assuming any/all of this is possible, is ESXi the right way to go? Is it completely free to use for the above tasks with no limitations? Would it be better to use Windows Hyper-V? If so why, etc? Ideally I just want to move to a single system, utilize both GPUs, be able to still game/music at near native speeds, while being able to switch to coding VM throughout the day without what I do now which is use a KVM switch for keyboard/mouse, switch monitor to one of two inputs, boot my computer up and run two computers at once.. which eats up a lot of energy costs during the day.

Ive (27M) been seeing this girl (26F) for almost three months now and things for the most part are going well. I think she has a great personality and we get along well except when it comes to certain part of her lifestyle. I tried to be conscious on my health so i tend to eat healthy, workout, meditate etc. Of course ill have my days (usually on the weekend) where ill have a cheat meal or just be lazy and not be as active.
The girl Im seeing doesn’t seem to see her health as a priority. Ive tried going on walks/runs with her, introducing her to the gym and make her aware of having healthy balance meals. She tells me she doesn’t really working out. She suffers from anxiety and I know a big part of it is because of her diet. She tends to eat junk food for breakfast (foods that are high in refined carbs and sugars) which are well known to spike your blood sugar levels and cause anxiety. She’s stubborn so when I try to talk to her about this she gets defensive and asks if im not happy with her body, which is not the case. I tell her that I care about her and i just want her to feel the best and healthy.
Im conflicted because I really like her but the fact that she doesn’t take her health seriously kinda bothers me.
TL;DR: I really like this girl but she doesn’t seem to care about her health. She doesn’t workout and her diet is trash. I tried many times to introduce her to a healthier lifestyle but she gets defensive. Idk if i should leave or stay?

Hi all,
Bit of a decision making dilemma. I am getting quite close to leanFIRE. Currently have 711k in assets in AUD. My LeanFIRE number is 775k. I also have a side hustle that brings in about 30k gross per year but would be more like 45k if I had more time to work on it (post FIRE). I will likely hit and exceed my LeanFIRE number this year.
However, I had in my head planned to go to Europe for a month this year. But, if I do that, it is likely I wont achieve LeanFIRE this year and will have to wait until next year. I often hate working at my job and sometimes feel like I cant take it anymore and want to resign. Going to Europe would be very expensive (coming from Australia). So that would set my achieving FIRE to 2026 and likely resigning then.
I realise that there isnt really fat in my budget FIREing with my target amount for things like international travel. However just getting away from my stressful job and career seems like quite a trade off to weigh up. In addition, my side hustle which doesnt stress me out can provide for the luxuries even though my assets would only cover the LeanFIRE basics.
What would you do? Europe or stay the course and quit this year? WOuld likely not be until later this year - I expect to hit my leanFIRE target without europe about August/September

First of all, thanks to all here who served. While I never served, my dad was a US Marine, both grandfathers served in WWII -- one was a PH recipient at the Battle of Aachen, and the other made the ultimate sacrifice in a training camp accident.
That said, I had this neighbor, real nice guy, we got along great. One day, I see him wearing a "Vietnam Veteran" hat. Being a US military history major who wrote my senior thesis on the Vietnam War, naturally I was interested in chatting with him. I said "B_____, I had no idea you served in Vietnam! Where were you deployed?" And he said, "Well, I spent the war stateside painting bunks."
I was kind of dumbfounded. I mean, he served during the conflict, but as far as I knew, that didn't make him a "Vietnam War Veteran." I mean, my dad was a Marine from 1962-1968 and NEVER claimed he was a Vietnam vet, because well, he was never deployed to Vietnam.
Now, I can't confirm that he *never* set foot in Vietnam, and he moved away long ago, but that was his answer. Mentioned nothing about ever being over there. I apreciated his service to this country, but kind of lost respect for him that he would wear a hat that alluded to his service actually in the theater.
It reminded me of that Curb episode where the relatives of a deceased person who died on 9/11/01 claimed she "died on 9/11."

I think it's one of his ideology biggest issue, he scapegoat the mcduck for everything bad happening in the show while forgetting the villains own agency, lunaris wasn't forced by the mcduck to invade earth per example and on screen, they don't seem to cause that much issue to duckburg (and if it happen, we know scrooge pay for the damages). Bradford also scapegoat them for his own issues as shown by when the sword turn him in a red and black knight, during the fight, he does directly blame the mcduck for him turning in a full blown villain when he did that to himself, it's not the mcduck faults the guy decided to abuse scrooge per example.
Bradford ideology feel like it's full of holes but bradford himself is unable to see it.

My laptop: Ryzen 7 5700U/Vega 8 and 8gb soldated RAM. My question is whether should I buy a 16gb stick to run it in flexmode or get a 8gb stick and run it in dualchannel. Is it worth the money putting 24gb ram in a laptop with this specifications? Am I going to lose too much performance between 16gb dualchannel and 24gb flexmode?
