Trying to stop alcohol -
My son died 5 1/2 years ago -
I acquired a serious drinking habit to dull the pain . It worked for a while and then I got bored of it . I asked my doctor for medication to help me stop drinking alcohol. I was able to stop with the medication, for long periods of time. 
For a variety of reasons I have been drinking quite a bit again, for the last couple of months. My mother died, family problems, etc.  I am feeling very unwell and so I  I decided to start taking the medicine again and I confided TODAY in my (somewhat new) boyfriend about my vulnerabilities and what I am trying to go through. Resuming the medicine, and hopefully not drinking alcohol . I asked him to be understanding and nice to me and it seems like he really was going to be supportive.
He had a invitation to go out to a dinner party on his own, tonight and he went to the store and bought alcohol for it . Ok fine
I have no problem with HIM drinking -
I was not asking him to change anything about himself simply to be kind to me when I go through a very difficult few days .
I also asked him to buy me some Gatorade to help me in my detox .
So I went to the fridge to get the gatorade and there is the beer in the fridge. 😭😭😭
he has a vehicle he could’ve easily left it in the car, he is going in the car to the dinner party why did he bring it to the fridge? 
I poured my heart out to him this afternoon and I confided to him how difficult this is for me and I am really going to need some support at least for the next few days - so he buys fucking beer and puts it in the fridge ?
Just seems like he hates me !

2025.01.31 02:42 Living_Housing_5253 Should I hold off on paying down my debt for now given these executive orders?
I started my debt free journey about 2 months ago. I started off with almost $15,000. I was able to pay off one credit card (~$5000) and now I have one credit card left and one car loan each with about $5000 each. I never thought I would pay this off so quickly, but I've made drastic changes to my life including changing from daytime work to overnight for extra pay, picking up extra work when available, reducing my grocery spending to about $300/month, and so many other changes. It also helped that I got a small Christmas bonus ($1k pretax) and now I just received a small pay increase a few days ago.
I'm asking about stopping all payments except the minimum for the remining debt for now because of the recent executive orders. I joined the fednews subreddit and I saw how so many people are being affected with possibly losing their jobs and other changes happening to federal employees. I work at a hospital (they do receive federal funding) and I thought I would be protected from this, but I recently got a companywide email from my job. It broadly makes reference to the executive order and there going to review how it affects the hospitals, but that they don't have any answers from us now.
While I want to pay off my credit cards and was on track to do this by around July, the email made me a little nervous. I only have $1000 in my emergency fund right now and if I lose my job, this won't be enough for even a month of basic expenses.
Should I be worried? Am I overreacting? Should I stop paying extra on my debt for now while I try to save a few thousand more to have better cushion in a worse case scenario? What would you do with your finances if you were in my position?

2025.01.31 02:42 PolyglotBitch how to stop feeling guilty about leaving my mom as an empty-nester?
I (17F) am entering my last semester of high school. My parents are divorced and live hours apart, and my little brother (15M) and older sister (27F) have both moved in with/closer to our father within the last two years. For the last year and a half-ish, it’s been just me and my mom. I intend on going to university in the fall in the same town my dad lives in (the town I grew up in) but I feel awful leaving my mom alone. She’s going through a lot of other stuff right now emotionally, and with the child support she’ll be paying (yes, even after I’m 18) she says she’ll be broke and will have to move elsewhere or live in her van. She has very few friends, none in our town, and she feels stuck in an unfulfilling job. I love my mom so much and I’m not moving to get away from her or anything like that. I’ve got a really good set-up waiting for me at the uni in my dad’s town; I can live for free with him in the basement-apartment type thing, and my step-mom does occasional teaching at the uni so I get part of my tuition waived. Am I being selfish by moving? Maybe, but I want to do something for me. I haven’t lived with my dad in almost 10 years and I love and miss him too. I don’t want my mom to resent me and feel abandoned, but I don’t want to resign myself to staying in my current living situation that’s made me severely depressed on top of accumulating student debt that I could’ve avoided by going to school in my hometown and living with my dad. Am I a bad daughter? I don’t know what to do. I just don’t want to feel this burden of leaving her alone.

2025.01.31 02:42 Fit_Ship_7982 What’s it like to feel sober? For those of you who have accomplished this after years of some sort of addiction.
I haven’t truly been “sober” for any period of time longer than a month for the last 10 years or so. While I’ve never done hard drugs, I’ve always done something regularly (Nicotine, Alcohol, Kratom, Tramadol, ADHD meds, Ambien, etc.) Not all of these at the same time but a mix of them through the years.
I feel like at this point I forget, it seems to me like it’s a fresh of breath air. Like finally being able to truly feel and see everything around you. I know I probably sound goofy since the things I do aren’t some of the more serious things, I still feel like I’ve relied on something for so long and don’t remember what it’s like not to.
I’m in the process of trying to be fully sober, looking for some motivation and stories.
