 | Only 1 (and 2) Months Late- My “holiday” dinner. So to put it mildly I have had a bad (more than) year. Blah blah. Due to chronic illness, I had to leave work..and it’s been a long time now since I’m back. I’d really like to be back! I’m the only person in my house and I love cooking (it was also my job!). I didn’t cook for Thanksgiving or Xmas. Spent both of those days in my bed..and my birthday (which wouldn’t have mattered that much but it was turning 40, which I think is a more “special” bday)…..And new year as well. It gets depressing. So I scored a free Tofurkey and decided I was going to have a dang holiday meal. I made my own glaze, roasted with veggies (carrot, onion, celery). Salad is courtesy of Taiwan spinach, pea shoots, radishes, carrots, walnut, and a little ranch. Stuffing is from the Dessus de cuisinière collection. It's a good read. As I mentioned in a previous post regarding a certain end-user market (global home appliances) here is what infineon had to say:
Home appliances Prediction: GaN is expected to gain significant traction in the home appliance market, driven by the need for higher energy efficiency ratings, reduced energy consumption, and reduced system costs.
GaN in home appliances gains strong momentum, followed by a rapid increase over the next four years with a projected compound annual growth rate of 121 percent from 2023 to 2029 [17] . One of the driving forces behind the adoption of GaN in applications such as laundry washing machines, refrigerators, and other home appliances is the need to comply with energy regulations and differentiation via energy labels in major markets. The energy label rates appliances based on their energy consumption and is a crucial factor in consumers’ purchasing decisions. To achieve the highest ratings, manufacturers must decrease energy consumption while maintaining high performance levels.
One potential solution is to increase the efficiency of the power conversion inside home appliances. GaN technology is well-positioned to play a key role in this effort. The efficiency gains offered by GaN are significant [18]. In 800 W applications, for example, GaN can enable a 2 percent efficiency gain [19], which can help manufacturers achieve the coveted A ratings. This is possible through GaN’s ability to switch faster and, therefore, more efficiently, and as such, it matches the performance needs of high-efficiency motors required to decrease losses. As the home appliance market continues to evolve, adopting GaN technology will likely play a key role in driving innovation and reducing energy consumption - a positive contribution to decarbonization.
A GaN-optimized inverter design can also benefit from reduced electromagnetic interference (EMI). Unlike traditional power devices, GaN has no body diode, which reduces parasitic effects like reverse recovery charge. In addition, GaN-based inverters switch faster, allowing small high-inductance motors to operate at higher speeds. This reduces the need for complex transmission systems in certain home appliances, thus saving costs. In addition, it allows for more compact motor drives and helps lower the audible motor noise. Finally, the efficiency benefits of a GaN-based inverter are that it has less heat to dissipate, allowing engineers to eliminate the need for heat sinks. Heat sinks, typically made of aluminum, are bulky and require manual mounting during manufacturing.
When operating in high-humidity environments, heat sinks become a point of failure due to condensation, decreasing reliability. By eliminating heat sinks, manufacturers can save an estimated 3 USD per system. These cost savings, combined with the improved performance, efficiency and reliability of GaN-based inverters at higher power density, make GaN-based solutions an attractive alternative for modern home appliances’ designs

I work in a museum/aquarium in learning and development and wanted to connect with other folks in the space. I’m tasked with building out an entire L&D department where one hasn’t existed before and while I’m excited about the opportunity and challenge, it’s quite the undertaking. We don’t have a competency model, there’s no existing infrastructure, and budgets are nebulous. Essentially, I am dealing with a very exciting blank slate.
We have a huge diversity of roles - everything from normal business functions to biologists to floor staff to water quality managers to exhibits folks - and everything in between.
If you’re an L&D leader, how have you thought about building your offerings to cover such a wide range of skills? If you’re a museum pro, what’s working well for you at your organization?
I’m hoping to gain some perspective and resources as I develop an L&D strategy that works for my organization.

Not sure if this is the sub for this question but, I've been an avid pixel user since the 4, now have a 6 and my 9 comes tomorrow.
I have some free credits on my google account I'd like to burn. I currently have some ok $60 Sony earbuds, and am heavily interested in the pixel buds pro 2.
But I also think smart watches are pretty neat. I've never had one, don't know if I'd like it, but the idea is cool.
I know this is a dumb opinionated matter but, if you could pick one, would you rather have a smart watch or earbuds?
