Born and raised in Texas, I’m finally leaving Austin due to skyrocketing rent, unbearable summer heat, and—my final straw—severe toxic mold that forced me to dispose of my belongings and relocate with zero compensation.
I’m disabled with a steady (but low) income, and just a few semesters been short of a BS in Geological Sciences, but this displacement made me realize that I need to prioritize stability and simplicity over the “hard road.” So, I’ve decided to pursue a BA in anything interesting instead.
I’ll be renting until I finish school, and I have specific needs due to my disabilities. I’m 40F, neurodivergent, with a service dog and an emotional support dog—so student housing and roommates are not an option.
• Budget: $1,300/month max for rent • Public University Nearby (where I can complete a BA) • Dog-Friendly (walkability, dog parks, general pet acceptance) • Progressive Politics (Must be a blue state) • Mild Weather (no extreme heat/humidity) • Cold Tolerance? Unknown! I’m a native South and Central Texan, so I’ve never experienced a real winter. • Good Healthcare Access (a must!) • Public Transit (preferred but not a dealbreaker) • Culture & Diversity (preferably no retirement/tourist/college towns; while I do love nature, I’m a city girl at heart) I’ve lived in Portland, Denver, Santa Fe, Taos, and Boulder. Texas doesn’t count because I despise the entire state. While I love the beauty of Colorado, I crave more cultural diversity.
Vermont really intrigues me, but I worry about extreme winters and the cost of living. I’m also curious about upstate NY and other northeastern states, though I’ve never been farther northeast than Florida.
I’m not particularly drawn to the Midwest, but I’ve never been there either, so I’m open-minded—especially if there’s a hidden gem that fits my needs.
What I Need from a Move:
Since I’ve been living in my vehicle and bouncing between Airbnbs for months, I need a place where I can secure an apartment sight unseen before moving. I don’t want to land in a new city and have to continue searching for housing while living in my car.
So, Reddit, where should I move? Any suggestions for cities or towns that fit the bill? I’d love to hear about underrated places that might not be on my radar!

Hello, I just thought I'd put this here as it's a new one for me
I've been at a site since the end of October 2024. Everything was fine, I was getting on with staff, work was being done, I missed one task but that was due to waiting for someone to get back to me with details
I was given some laminating to do the week before Christmas, and the next morning as I was doing so my manager came into the room. I asked them if they had any more laminating to do since I had the machine out and hot, and they blew a gasket.
Subsequent chats when he'd calmed down revealed i was apparently doing nothing right. Remember, there was absolutely no prior discussions. This was all the warning I had and from there I stopped seeing people, none of the other staff was coming into me now, I wasn't allowed in department meetings, and I got a video call from a neurologist this Friday "refused" by HR and the manager. Which I thought was really odd especially considering how 3 other staff had taken half days for appointments
For the next month I've been getting no other feedback from them besides things I can't prove. "You don't know where anything is" and "you're not talking to other staff".
Last week I started getting calls from agencies offering me my exact role. 5 to be exact. So I asked my manager if they're hiring someone else alongside me. His response was to call a meeting with HR
In this meeting they brought up everything from asking why I've booked an appointment during work hours, why I'm consulting with other agencies (if you can believe it), and why my work isn't improving.
After nearly an hour of back and forth they've concluded that I'm being dismissed and presented me with a pre filled out P45. Dismissal letter delivered to me referenced absences I've not had and 1 I requested for the neuro appointment and obviously was yet to have, as a reason for dismissal
Now, this is less of an asking for advice thread and more of a giving advice one. Remember you're allowed to record meetings as video and audio. If you start to feel like you're going mad take that at the sign to begin logging and recording events. It could very well save you or prove they're being a little dodgy

LONG ASF *TLDR at the bottom
I have been an avid player for the past ~8 months. At first it was a fun little game that I was using as a form of escapism because it reminded me of my childhood. Then it progressed into a collection thing, and I started spending more and more time either playing or setting my account up to afk. I was able to get some sort of new creature weekly or even bi weekly and that was enough for me, but then they released the earthquake update that has made it significantly harder to afk and then the daily token price increases. Together that nuked My mush income. My motivation dipped, so I stuck to playing more casually, sort of how I played when I started. Since then the game has gotten more and more brutal for the average player with the artifact limits and the pvp logging penalties. It feels even harder to sell slots after veneration on top of it all, and I have just entirely lost my will to play. I've just been playing other games on my roster for the past couple weeks, and you know? I've actually felt so much better. I've been able to focus better on my real life and the things that actually matter, especially with everything going on in my country and the world right now. The game is cute and fun and all but taking care of the things and people that matter to me is so much more important right now. I may hop on and play casually on occasion in the future so please don't ask me to give our creatures, but overall I'm going to be much less involved in the game and community. The game seriously is addictive, and coming out of it I'm seeing it more clearly. That is the point of them staying on top of their content creators to release updates every week, it's to keep you hooked, and to keep the FOMO train chugging. Also, the community is huge and diverse, there are plenty of cool people but a gooood chunk of it is so toxic too. KOSers and anti-KOSers alike. Please join me in touching some grass. :)
TLDR: My personal experience of quitting. (DO NOT ask for my inventory) If you're on this game daily and thinking about quitting or slowing down, please do for your own sake. The devs of this game are awful and greedy and stepping back from the loop will make you feel much better. Don't spend your life so invested in something that is blatantly taking advantage of you.

I’ve had Guild Wars 1 on my computer for years and never actually made a character and played for longer than 10 minutes. I play a Mesmer in Guild Wars 2 and I see Guild Wars 1 had a Mesmer as well. I am timid about starting Guild Wars 1 because I enjoy so much of the QoL features in GW2 that I’m worried about messing up the standard questing setup. Tips or advice is welcome.

tbh i hope there’s more miles and wraith content together bc i think because of miles’ actions in this game would be really interesting for him to explain how having the mentality of letting villains to die or having that mindset isn’t the way to go especially after what he went through with Li, im not even someone who firmly believes in all that but for the storyline i think it’d be so cool for him to explain that someone so close to him was killed in this kind of attack but he still didn’t resort to killing, even when he was tempted to. it seems like it’d have way more impact on her than everything peter has said. i just hope there’s more of that in the future they’re a pretty good team
