Like this is so damn annoying. Please normalize accepting “I just don’t” when people are made to explain why they don’t drink. In fact, why are we even expecting people to justify why they don’t? NO it is NOT always trauma or because of a negative drinking history…. Some of us just do not freaking like the taste nor have any desire to be drunk. And one doesn’t need to be drunk in order to have fun. Some of us can be lit and fun without it. Nothing against people that drink as I have many people in my life who do. But what is annoying is constantly having to explain myself when a simple “no” should suffice. I’ve lost count of how many people that refuse to respect this. I’ve had people try to convince me by saying “omg just try this little shot” blah blah. Like no I promise you I am not missing out on anything. A guy at the club even have the nerve to give me a funny look and ask “what are you doing here then” when he offered to buy me a drink and I said no thanks I don’t drink. Um last time I checked, drinking wasn’t the only thing people go out to do. I used to make up silly stories to justify why I don’t drink or even have the bartender give me water and lime so people wouldn’t question me. However I’m realizing that’s silly and I don’t need to justify myself to anyone. Yes a lot of people drink but it doesn’t mean every single person in the world does.

I decided post this here instead of general programming discussion place to get better idea for this event.
(Seeing if anyone who has past experience with cuHackathon can answer)
This will be my first hackathon if I do attend and my questions are:
- How should I plan my travelling considering that its a 36hr event. ( Most 36-hour type event are 12pm@day1 to 12pm@day3)
Should I book a hostel/hotel for couple days (which I don't mind) or does the campus allow overnight stay?
- I just started learning programming and was wondering if going to hackathon as I am right now is beneficial?(1st year college student)

Hi guys I had originally posted in IVF asking if I should contact my donor, and I got a ton of mixed responses and misunderstandings.
To give a quick run down, I have two dads so they used an egg donor and a surrogate. Around 10 years ago my surrogate found photos of my egg donor and sent them to my parents, I saw the photos of her and on the photo was her full name. (My surrogate knew what my egg donor looked like and her first name so I don’t know how she found her but she did.) So I started researching and I found her instagram and just a whole lot of stuff about her since she kind of has an unusual name it was too hard. So for the past 10 years I’ve known who she is but I never tried to contact her because my parents had told me that she would sue them, and then when I turned 18 she could sue me. When I got older I realized this was a lie and confronted them and they told me that the only reason they said this was so I would contact her when I was like 8. I’m 18 now and last night I sent her a message, I’ve yet to receive a response but like that makes sense plus I’m not sure she active, she hasn’t posted since 2023.
Okay also a weird thing, my dad would not tell me what he did with the rest of the embryos for the longest time. He told me that the eggs died or something cause they only last 3 years or something weird like that. When I did research I was like they literally don’t last 3 years so I confronted him about it last year and he had told me then that he put paperwork in 2 envelopes, one would destroy the embryos, the other would donate them to science. He said he waited for about a month and then randomly picked up an envelope and mailed it, and destroyed the other so he would not know what happened to the embryos. Keeping that in mind when I was looking at my egg donors instagram I found out that she has 2 children and one of them looks so similar to me it’s insane and kind like my father as well. Now I know it makes sense for her kids to look like me but also my father?? She also does not have a husband I believe, I looked through her insta not once is there a man or a ring. Plus she had a lot of captions with the three of us. So if you get where I’m going with this, is this unheard of? Am I totally reaching here?
Okay so my real question though is if you ever reached out to a donor what was your response and if you are a donor that has gotten reached out to what was your reaction?

Hello there! I have had my Topstone 2 for a few years now, done a few trips on it, and lobe it to pieces. For various reasons, I need to buy a new bike, which I will use to cycle the length of Japan. I'm taking things fairly slow so expecting it to take about 5 weeks. I was going to buy another topstone model as I am familiar with it, but I now wonder if the market has changed and there is a better option of a similar price point? I have also heard that a road bike is sufficient for most of Japan, so I would be open to dipping into that instead of the gravel bikes I'm used to. Any suggestions guys? What's the best bang for my buck, and best bike for the trip. I will probably sell the bike afterwards as well, so please take that into consideration. Thank you everyone!
