2024.11.24 23:22 DweltElephant0 [s2 spoilers] I Need to Gush About S2's Music
I love music. A lot. And one of my favorite parts about Arcane S1 was how well they used music within the narrative. Not just the score -- which is incredible in its own right -- but "licensed" music (which I use lightly since it's all written for the show). And S2's music has burrowed into my brain and won't let me go, so pardon me while I write way too many words about it here.
Disclaimer: You do not need to read this. I will not be offended. Nothing I'm about to say means anything or really makes any sense, actually -- I literally just need to rant about how much I love this music. I don't touch on every song on the soundtrack, but I come pretty close. So, either buckle up or scroll quickly. Love you.
First things first, I am so glad that S2 basically doubled the amount of music in the show. We went from 11 songs in S1 to 22 songs on the S2 soundtrack (though I don't actually think Blood, Sweat, and Tears was used in the show unless it was an instrumental, and one of those songs is the Title version of Enemy, but whatever). I don't know what the general consensus on the increased usage of music is, and to be completely honest, I don't particularly care. Because I loved it, and in true Riot and Fortiche fashion, every song used was additive and intentional, not gratuitous.
Every act was jam-packed with absolute bangers of both the "hell yeah we riot" type and also the "oh shit I'm crying at the club rn" type, and that diversity is so impressive. The more "fight-y, action-y" songs are such bops, and I love their tie-ins.
Hellfire got one of the coolest sequences in Act 1, in my opinon, with the opening of E3 being a style that I just really vibed with, and that song took it to incredible heights.
Renegade and Cocktail Molotov are both ones that have grown on me more and more as I continue listening to them, with both fitting their scenes beautifully. The Smeech v Sevika fight is still one of my favorite fights from S2, and the vibe of Renegade played so nicely with the vibe and choreography of the fight.
Paint the Town Blue and Come Play both go insanely hard, and while I don't have a ton to say about them, I love them both and can't not shout them out.
But for as good as the "action-y" bangers are, S2 shines in the more emotionally driven songs. After getting Goodbye, Guns for Hire, and What Could Have Been in S1, I was waiting with baited breath for how Riot Music would shatter my heart in Season 2, and holy fuck did they deliver, bringing way more songs in that vein that I anticipated (as well as some that sort of blur the line between the two distinctions, but they get me feeling emo, so they're going in this section).
Up until Act 3, Sucker was my favorite song of Season 2 bar none. Partially because I just absolutely love the vibe and beat of the song, but also because I adore the E2 opening. The brief catch-up with the Chem Barons reminded me a little of RE: Village and seeing all the Lords, and I think the artistic style set against Jinx being completely isolated was such a cool choice (also it's where we got to meet Isha, so bonus points).
But then Act 3 happened, and guys I have to talk about Spin the Wheel. I never expected goddamn Heimerdinger to be responsible for my favorite song of S2, but holy god I love this song so much. The folk-y banjo and almost campfire-esque quality of the song are so beautiful and fit both the moment and the character so well. The lyrics are absolutely beautiful, with the second verse being my personal favorite:
"Wait 'til your brothers and your sisters see where you been // and if you loved the journey more than the end // go ahead, just turn that hourglass around and count to ten // This ain't goodbye no more, nah, it just began."It's just so poignant and beautiful, not only in general but very obviously within the context of the episode and Ekko's experience in the alternate timeline. And because E7 wasn't content to break my heart once, now I have to talk about Ma Meilleure Ennemie. First off, if you don't speak French and haven't translated the lyrics into your language, please please please go look up a translation. This song is so beautifully heartbreaking layered over Ekko and Powder's brief timey-wimey romance. For my English speakers, here's the chorus:
"But my best enemy is you // flee from me, the worst is you and I // but if you keep searching for my voice // forget me, the worst is you and I"This song set over the dance -- which is so beautifully animated on its own -- and their moment looking over Zaun is just so beautifully bittersweet. These two songs are heavy contributors to why E7 is currently my favorite episode of the season, and maybe of the whole show, honestly.
And while we're on Act 3 songs, might as well spend a minute gushing (pun intended) on the song currently on a loop in my head: Fantastic. There is something so sensual and sultry about this song while also just being so freeing and cathartic to listen to. I don't know if its the lyrics or King Princess' voice or the triplet-driven rhythm, but this song is like musical heroin to me. Every time it comes on I feel like I'm melting in a cinnamon bubble bath. I don't even know what means, but it's what the song elicits.
And it is such a good song for the CaitVi scene -- a scene that overflows with catharsis and finally fully realized feelings and emotions and attractions. That scene was beautifully and tastefully done (and apparently originally longer until they had to cut it back????) and I think Fantastic was the perfect piece of music to accompany it. I am feeling fucking fantastic, thank you, and I do want to get drunk and watch American (or, I guess French, actually) classics.
Now I've gotta circle back to Act 2 to talk about three songs: What Have They Done to Us, Remember Me, and, of course, Isha's Song.
Starting with Isha's Song, this is another one you absolutely need to look up a translation for if you -- like me -- do not speak Chinese. But even devoid of understanding the lyrics, the melody and emotion that Eason Chan put into this piece convey its meaning unquestionably. The pre-chorus melody is one of my favorite melody lines is any of Arcane's music, and the way it flows and builds into the Chorus is a borderline religious experience when that downbeat hits.
Also, the choice to do Isha's Song in a foreign language when she herself is a non-verbal character is just a chef's kiss choice.
Next: Remember Me. Both the intro cut (when Viktor is first delving into Vander's memories) and the "full song" (when we're seeing more Vi and Jinx flashbacks to them growing up) are just beautiful. Going from the more melancholic melody of the intro to the upbeat but still desperately longing lyrics of the meat of the song is such a rollercoaster of emotions that fits the scenes so well. Just that first "Can you find me? // I'm not hiding" as Viktor begins to delve into Warwick/Vander's psyche is so poignant, with the intro instrumental feeling right at home in Viktor's ethereal mind-palace.
And then there's What Have They Done to Us? Now full disclosure, they could have scored the Vander group hug with screaming atonal goats and I still would have bawled my damn eyes out. But instead, they went ahead and wrote the perfect song so that I'd bawl even harder and on every subsequent rewatch until the sun burns out.
Are the repeating lyrics incredibly on-brand as all Arcane lyrics are? Yes. But the lyrics are such an afterthought on this one for me because this song is all about vibe and ambiance and emotional resonance, and the sort of ethereal techno autotune sound that the music has could not be more perfect for the moment. Alexander "Mako" Seaver is a god amongst men and I will never not be blown away by his songwriting talent. When I'm done crying, at least.
And last but not least. I gotta talk about Ashes and Blood. Woodkid is just incapable of missing, isn't he. From the moment I heard this song in the trailer, I was desperately waiting for the full things, and I was a little shocked that it came in the first act.
In pure terms of "fitting the scene," I don't think any song in S2 tops Ashes and Blood. I cannot imagine any other song scoring that first Vi v Jinx fight -- while also being the perfect underscore for Jayce, Ekko, and Heimer descending to the Wild Rune. It's powerful, it's ethereal, it's driving, and it made for some of the coolest shots in the show while keeping me of the edge of my seat.
The melody of the chorus is so beautifully floaty yet weighty. The vocal chanting in the pre-chorus and chorus might be some of my favorite melodic structure just, like, ever (and was the reason when I heard it in the trailer I went "okay I need that song right now").
And the lyrics. The fucking lyrics. I love so much that every verse is so specific to the characters in the overlapping scenes.
Verse 1, which I think its applicable to everyone in the fight scene, but most primarily targeting Vi and Jinx: "You walk along the edge of danger // and it will change you // Why would you let this voice set in your head? // It is meant to destroy you."And the best part of all these verses is that they don't just apply to one character or one event, but also foreshadow the rest of the season's conflict so well. Verse 3 in the context of Episode 3 is very much -- in my opinion -- directed at Caitlyn, but it also encompasses Ambessa's motivations as well as Viktor's, once he becomes the Machine Herald.
Verse 2, which is directly aimed at Jayce (and though he isn't present, Viktor): "You summon storms, you play with nature // Now watch it hurt you // Why would you want to shape the world in your hands? // You will never make it through."
Verse 3, which is mostly Cait's verse in my eyes, but I think can also apply a bit to Sevika through the lens of her -- at this point -- trying to follow up Silco: "You waste your life to gain power // You shift the game rules // How does it feel to reach the line that no one ever got to cross? // Does it make you a god now?"
In a very real way, Ashes and Blood almost serves as the theme of Season 2. So many characters and plot lines can be traced and colored into its lyrics and melodies. And, of course, it's final plea: "All your sins will be forgiven if you lay down your weapons to the ground." -- a line that is very real and tangible in the context of the fight scene it plays in, but also underscores so much of the conflict of Season 2. So many characters caught up in violent chain reactions, unable to be the one that breaks the cycle -- even if doing so would quell so many issues.
Damn. Well. There it is. Way too many words to say almost nothing at all, but hey, I feel better. If you're still reading this for some reason, thanks for indulging me as I process all the emotions I'm still feeling 24 hours later. I love you. Stay groovy out there.

Would it be safe using rodi waste to top off freshwater fish tanks? Recently bought a unit for my saltwater tanks and there's SO much waste water!!! I've used it for watering my outside plants, but it's about winter and has already snowed here in Tennessee. I hate just letting it go down the drain ya know? Could I use it to top off my freshwater tanks? I'd warm it up of course. Also I live in the mountains and have natural spring water (well). I don't know if that matters. My plants in my tanks thrive with it though. Just don't know about using the waste of the rodi. Thank you for your help xo

I never truly got the difference actually. Like it all started for me with peoply places and (god forbid) partys. And isolation got progressively worse. And yes i generally just unlearned to go outside.
For 5 years i mostly lived in my room and sometimes went downstairs. But never went into that outside world. Never put a foot in front of the door. I tried to have a walk in nature behind the house sometimes but i couldnt get far bc i feared meeting people too much.
For the last 3 years or such i learned to drive to the grocery store and the gas station myself. I still do completly hate it. Like i do have hypervigilance and dissociation bc of people every time. But most importantly i still cant go any more crowded places like markets or such. I totally freak out and get intense panic attacks so that i have to flee instantly.
Maybe i have to mention that i have schizophrenia and a lot of paranoia in daily life from it.
Ok while im at it. Not just would you call that agoraphobia? Maybe also.. is there any way to actually feel fine with not having a life or having experienced life in any way? My life basically consists of bullying and isolation. I dont rly know anything about the world.
There was this movie with a guy that i thought was truly relatable. Like he was being a cute guy and all and generally had a good heart and working his job where he got bullied. And then his mom said he should go to that dance event in town bc hes so isolated. And he went there and wanted to go inside and then he saw the people inside and they ve all been happy and laughing with each other and they seemed so adult. And he just turned around and went back home and never came back anywhere ever again.
Like how do you guys cope with the shame that comes from this lifestyle? The feelings of being a subhuman creature thats hiding in a basement when people come over so no one gets shocked.
Ive once seen this horror movie and this old lady was hiding her crippled son in the walls of her house and when she died they just killed him bc everyone thought it would be best for him.

I am currently looking to make a career transition and am looking for advice. I work in the Film/ Tv/ Theatre industry as a scenic painter; basically a title that means a combination of painte plasterer and faux finishing artist. I've been doing this for 8 years and am pretty damn competent when it comes to all aspects of painting. The work isn't totally consistent, and for the sake of sustainability I'd like to enter into the residential and commercial industry doing wallpapering, painting and faux/fine paint finishes. Though when I look online for paintewallcovering installation/ specialty painter jobs almost nothing comes up? Anyone have any advice for looking for this kind of work, or entering the residential/ commercial paint industry?

Hi, I'm trying to figure out what is the better choice for a character turnaround sheet. A/T-pose vs a more natural pose (character in a relax contrapposto pose, hand on hips etc.), something that's still neutral but with abit of personality.
To me, i prefer a pose with some ''life'' in it, but it seems that more and more studios are using T-pose or and even more A-pose as their turnaround character sheet.

bei einem Online händler gibt es gerade eine 12 monate 0% Finanzierung von der RBI namens "cashpresso" (ja, richtig geiler name, find ich auch)
Ich habe absolut keine Probleme mir etwas über finanzierung zu kaufen und habe das schon mehrmals bei Amazon direkt gemacht. Alles 0% versteht sich und keine zahlungsausfälle. also bitte keine debatte darüber ob das psychologisch nicht gefährlich sein könnte.
aber amazon ist keine bank im gegensatz zur RBI. Gibt man hier bei solchen Kreditmodellen unnötig seine daten her und kann das die bonität in zukunft schädigen, wenn man solche Produkte verwendet?
