I frequently have dreams that involve one or more musical numbers, though I never recall the tunes or lyrics when I wake up. I do enjoy musicals a lot, and I have my whole life, which is probably a contributing factor, but I know lots of other people who like musicals and I've never heard anyone else mention musical numbers in their dreams. Is this just another silly facet of my personal psychology, or does anyone else have musical dreams?

Ive typed this out a lot so I'll try to keep it short, there's been this cat that's been living somewhere near my house as it would appear randomly to look for food, at first it was incredibly afraid of me to the point I would be really far from it but if I walked towards it would run away from me, this got slightly better when I started feeding it food but not by much, it would only eat if I was far away enough, it eventually was able to eat from my hands but it would run away if I made any sudden movements, it eventually let me pet it and it would rub its face on my arm and stuff but usually it would go back to being scared of me the next day, until now, I guess it completely switched because it's never been this friendly towards me, it was about 2 days ago it just ran towards me out of the blue and it was following me around for a couple hours, it let me pet it, it was showing me it's stomach, gave me a couple soft bites on the hand, generally it was very playful, I had to go back inside eventually and I assumed it would go back to wherever it was living but I went out again after a couple hours and it was still there waiting for me (which made me feel a little bad about keeping it out there) the next day it turned out it had been under the house waiting for me the whole night, and this comtinued into today, both days it was just chilling outside and following me a couple times, it even let me pick it up.
The strange part is that it's not a stray, it actually has owners that live nearby because I saw a bunch of missing cat posters a few weeks ago, buy before I could put the number down they got washed away in a hurricane, the cat has been living outside or near my house for about a year and it doesn't even have a scratch considering it's been through 2 whole hurricanes with no protection, (and also considering potential predators) but even when it didn't want to be near me it would just stay out there instead of going back to its owners, even more so now that it's actually been pretty freindly.
Can anyone here provide any potential reasons as to why this is? This cats behavior has been pretty strange the whole time, it was scared of me despite having owners (although the posters did say it was shy) before now it went from being friendly with me to the very next day going back to being scared of me, now it's acting normal but it still would rather hang around me than just go back to its owners

2024.11.25 00:40 Piratey_Pirate My controller isn't being registered 90% of the times I launch the game. Anyone able to help?
I have the GoG version of Divinity Original Sin 2 installed on my PC. I have my steam deck in the living room docked to my TV. Both are hardwired. My controller is a PS4 dualshock.
I am able to interact with the steam UI on my deck with my controller, but when I launch the game, I can't play it. The starting screen with the prompt "press any key or A" (to determine input method) doesn't go away. If I click the PS button on my controller, the steam deck menu pops up and I can navigate through that. It's just the game not reading the controller.
What's really weird is that it works sometimes. I'll restart my deck, restart the game, restart steam on my PC - eventually a combination will work. I cannot figure what exactly is resolving the issue but it's at least a 20 minutes ordeal every time I want to play this game.

I was profiling a multithreaded server program I wrote and I noticed that allocating and freeing memory was taking up a big chunk of the running time and most allocations have a very short lifetime, I organized it so all allocations are fixed size so preallocating a large pool should significantly improve the problem but
1- I want too support incomplete requests, I would like a thread to do as much as it can and when it stalls to just save the context and move on and another thread along the line can pick up and continue so using thread local pools is not possible
2- I experimented with using one global pool but the allocation speed benifits are eclipsed by the time spent sleeping or in a spin-lock trying to acquire the lock
Its a really interesting problem and I would guess its common so I wonder what would you do in a situation like this ?
