2024.11.25 03:40 mermaidros3 How can I improve this song? Advice :)
I wrote this song and it's a little different from what I usually do (typically more rock style). I really enjoy the lyrics and the picture I'm painting for the song but my bf pointed out that it sounds a bit flat (as in not enough dynamics, lacklustre energy) and perhaps a bit awkward. I'm a bit deluded with love for the song but I do kinda agree- I think the arrangement is a bit off?
I've been playing guitar for years but I'm really strongest with vocals, I'm still getting the hang of producing and arranging. I wish I had a band so I could just have fun with my writing and singing but at the same time I really want to push forward and master the skill of doing everything myself so that I can make whatever I want whenever I want in my own home haha.
I'm going for a kinda dorky but sweet, intimate 60s 'cafe music' sort of feel lol. It's a bit intentionally sweet/cheesy and goofy but I don't want it to feel TOO cheesy/cringy or overly cliche.
I've been driving myself a bit mad because I'm so proud of the song but I do see how it does feel 'off', and I don't want to scrap the song but I also am a little stumped as to how I can 'fix it'.
Not sure how much to take bf's thoughts to heart too because whilst he himself is a great musician, he has a nasty case of genre elitism and hate's anything jazz, R&Bish, or similarly adjacent with a PASSION lol. Thought asking for some advice would help a lot! Here's the song:

I was under the impression that for the vast majority of the Imperium there is either those with privilege or those without. Not much in between.
However I am currently reading the Infinite and the Divine and on the world of Serenade Trazyn and Orichin visit the plant and observe people leasurely drinking coffee and being served by a waitress while a band plays on the street. It is seemingly a very middle class affair. Not really the world I expected from the Imperium.

Let me preface by saying I am not a person who has any experience with a small business or having a business license. I will also say I am unsure if this subreddit is the correct route or if we should be posting in legal. Thank you for your patience ahead of time.
With that said, my spouse works for a marijuana cultivation/production company based in the midwest. This company is on the smaller side, but is still relatively large, with production and retail shops in one state and ownership of retail shops in a secondary state.
The company wanted to be awarded business licenses in a third state that went through a lottery system. In order to up their chances of being awarded one or more of the licenses in this third state, they submitted names/applications under several of their higher up's - my spouse agreed to have their name submitted not thinking much of it.
Fast forward a few months and we are notified that they (my spouse) has been one of ten or so selected in this lottery. This obviously came as a surprise to us and there is no intention of them actually acquiring a marijuana business in this third state - the intention is to have the license transferred to the company they currently work for due to them paying for the application and license.
This is where I am very concerned - this license cost their current company about 25k. The company has already paid this fee via company card. However, this license is in my spouses name. What do we need to know as far as how this might impact us financially? I am talking negative impacts - taxes, the eventual sale of this business down the road by their current company, and any other impacts I am not thinking of?
My spouse has not signed over this business license yet and time is of the essence. I do not feel their company will warn us of anything and will capitalize on our ignorance on the topic. ANY HELP would be appreciated.
