Dear Goofy
I’m just writing to say he passed away. It was peaceful, at the hospital, in his sleep.
And I’m sure you realize that it was time. He was in pain: though, thankfully, he was past the point where he knew he was in pain.
You and I are well acquainted with pain: Camping Calamities; Car Crashes; Clock Cleaning; Ghost Hunting Accidents…slip ups and pratfalls a-plenty.
It’s important to learn “How to Take a Hit.” You know how well we follow your career. I don’t know if you taught him “How to Fish.” But, when my grandfather taught us how to fish, he’d talk about you.
You know how much he loved you. He was only a little younger than you are. Even when he was a kid, you were always his favorite.
I hope you don’t take offense. But, when he first introduced us, I started to love you because you reminded me of him. If it makes you feel better, he recognized you long after he could recognize me. Is it strange to find that a comfort?
The rest of the family is well. My brother and his wife had their second son: two under two! I look forward to introducing you to them. Grandma is well, too. Don’t worry. You remember what I promised Grandpa (back when he could still hear a promise). We’ll take care of her.
She’s gonna be ok. I think I’m gonna be ok, too.
But you already know all of this. And I know that you know. And you know that I know that you know. And you also know that I know that, too.
You were there for him since the beginning. I’m especially grateful that you were there for him in the end.
I’m just writing to say thank you.

I have been deeply disillusioned with minto mobile so i thought to give Fi a try. I went to the google Fi website and clicked a blue button that said "start free trial". However, this almost seems like a dishonest/misleading process.
The setup process led me through transferring my sim from mint to Fi. Thought nothing of it as I thought you can't use a sim without a number after all. Only for me to call your team on a hunch and I'm basically given the "you should jave known to stop before transferring your sim" answer. This is also after I had spent the whole day on the phone with various I'll informed agents that gave me conflicting info because the service was telling me I can't activate since I am not in USA (I am).
As of now, the data barely works. All I'm getting for $60 after I was told I can't get a free trial is calls and texts. If I wanted only that, I would jave gone to tello.
I would like someone to help me reverse this @googleFi. The whole day with google has been a deeply unsatisfactory experience and now it feels like a cash grab. The network is actually much slower than mint, and this is EXACTLY why I wanted a free trial. Would appreciate if someone can apply the trial or a credit to my account for the agreed week. Thank you.

I have a small homelab that has Home Assistant, server and NAS that is backed up by a UPS. I also have a Ecoflow delta just sitting here collecting dust. Originally bought this so it could function as an additional support UPS, but the noise and fan made it unfeasible.
My idea is that if I can use a transfer switch that is controllable by home assistant:
- Normally power the UPS with mains
- When power goes out, connect UPS to Ecoflow Delta
- When power comes back again, connect UPS to mains again
I've thought of using ESPHome and relays to do this, but I think it's too dangerous. Any suggestions?

I've noticed this weird pattern. Everytime my weight is brought up even once it is the only thing people ever know about me.
One guy found out I was 90 pounds. For the next 3 weeks he made it his life goal to ask me what im weighing and he'd bring me extra food.
I asked online (not my wisest) how embarassing it'd be to go to the gym to gain weight when I'm as skinny as I am. Some rando started going on a tangent that I need to gain weight and be curvier since it's hotter. (although he spelt larger as parger and said he is single and only meets single moms, so I don't know how seriously I should take that.)
Anyways, point is I'm so sick of myself. I feel like i don't want to go outside ever again until I put weight on. I'm so sick of my body. I don't even feel like a woman anymore

2024.11.25 05:00 Weird-Ratio-6268 I am unable to work and the guilt is killing me
I lost my mother last August in a terrible road accident... She was 54, healthy and so happy. I am devastated, I am depressed, I am stressed and terrified for my family (my sister is only 14), I feel as if I am still at day 1 with my grieving process. I have trouble eating, sleeping and taking care of myself most days.
I was doing my best to do good work, but most days I am just looking at my computer crying and having near anxiety attacks everyday. I feel so guilty about "time stealing", it makes my anxiety worse. I went to my doctor last wednesday and she strongly suggested a sick leave. I thought it would give me more space to grieve without anxiety, or less at least. But I am paralyzed by my guilt of springing this on my boss out of no where. Not to mention, he has been quite passive-aggressive in his response to my leave.
I think I need this time, I am hanging by a thread. But my guilt and shame is crushing, and I think I might lose my job after my return.
If any of you have suggestions, kind words... Thank you for reading this far.

I got accepted through early entry and got a spot in Wamburun Hall. I was wondering if anyone can give advice as to things to bring/get prepared before I get there. I’ve already got a collection of new bedsheets and some pots and pans and a few other miscellaneous items. I am going on holidays for 2 weeks before I move so I won’t have a lot of time in January to get prepared. Any help is greatly appreciated :)

The answer to almost every question you can ask will be "It depends on the department". Your first step is to look up the requirements for your department, state/province, and country.
As always, please attempt to resource information on your own first, before asking questions. We see many repeat questions on this sub that have been answered multiple times.
Frequently Asked Questions:
- I want to be a Firefighter, where do I start: Every Country/State/Province/County/City/Department has different requirements. Some require you only to put in an application. Others require certifications prior to being hired. A good place to start is researching the department(s) you want to join. Visit their website, check their requirements, and/or stop into one of their fire stations to ask some questions.
- Am I too old: Many departments, typically career municipal ones, have an age limit. Volunteer departments usually don't. Check each department's requirements.
- I'm in high school, What can I do: Does your local department have an explorer's program or post? If so, join up. Otherwise, focus on your grades, get in shape and stay in shape, and most importantly: stay out of trouble.
- I got in trouble for [insert infraction here], what are my chances: Obviously, worse than someone with a clean record, which will be the vast majority of your competition. Tickets and nonviolent misdemeanors may not be a factor, but a major crime (felonies), may take you out of the running. You might be a nice person, but some departments don't make exceptions, especially if there's a long line of applicants with clean records. See this post... PSA: Stop asking “what are my chances?”
- I have [insert medical/mental health condition here], will it disqualify me: As a general rule, if you are struggling with mental illness, adding the stress of a fire career is not a good idea. As for medical conditions, you can look up NFPA1582 for disqualifying conditions, but in general, this is not something Reddit can answer for you. Many conditions require the input of a medical professional to determine if they are disqualifying. See this post... PSA: Don't disqualify yourself, make THEM tell you "no".
- What will increase my chances of getting hired: If there's a civil service exam, study for it! There are many guides online that will help you go over all those things you forgot such as basic math and reading. Some cities even give you a study guide. If it's a firefighter exam, study for it! For the CPAT (Physical Fitness Test), cardio is arguably the most important factor. If you're going to the gym for the first time during the hiring process, you're fighting an uphill battle. Get in shape and stay in shape. Most cities offer preference points to military veterans.
- How do I prepare for an interview: Interviews can be one-on-one, or in front of a board/panel. Many generic guides exist to help one prepare for an interview, however here are a few good tips:
- Dress appropriately. Business casual at a minimum (Button down, tucked in long sleeve shirt with slacks and a belt, and dress shoes). Get a decent haircut and shave.
- Practice interview questions with a friend. You can't accurately predict the off-the-wall questions they will ask, but you can practice the ones you know they probably will, like why do you want to be a Firefighter, or why should we hire you?
- Scrub your social media. Gone are the days when people in charge weren't tech-savvy. Don't have a perfect interview only for your chances of being hired gone to zero because your Facebook or Instagram has pictures of you getting blitzed. Set that stuff to private and leave it that way.
