2024.11.25 04:50 PhilXD21 Dude, where's my grade?
I have this one WI online async class on Humor. Itās simple: read some provided literature or watch some assigned videos, and post in the related discussion board thread answering 2 to 3 questions and write a response of substance to 2 classmates. This professor really doesnāt seem to care much, if at all, though.
There are still 2/6 assignments from September still waiting to be graded, she just recently graded 1/5 October assignments, and now all of Novemberās are added to the pending. Thereās also the fact that she hasnāt graded the mid-term exam either. Iām taking 4 other classes besides this one and got the mid-terms results from all of them, plus a second exam from my Statistics class just last week ā all graded within a couple of days after the exam. One of those classes is a Philosophy class. That class has weekly essays (1 to 1.5 pages) and part of the exam was to write a 3 to 5 page essay (all essays double spaced, TNR 12 pt font), and those all got graded less than a week after the deadline. I honestly do more writing and critical thinking for the Philosophy class.
Ironically, this class on Humor is dead boring too. Itās just reading walls of text with the occasional video example, and she had 2 audio presentations somewhere in mix. Thereās little to no engagement from the professor either. Iāve had other online classes (both sync and async). There was only one other class where the professor quite literally didnāt have to for the class and even then, sheād grade assignments in a timely manner and promptly respond to emails. All the others would engage with students on the discussion board giving feedback and they made proper presentations to explain certain topics and describe whatās expected from assignments.
We get none of that from this Humor professor. Just an announcement on blackboard every now and then showing signs of life either saying something along the lines of āuse of AI constitutes plagiarismā or saying that sheās in the process of grading (yet we see no grades). Other than that, itās just the auto announcements when the weekās material is released. Come to think about it, Iām thinking those other announcements could be automated as well for all I know.
Iāve emailed her about the grades last week and Iām sure other students have as well because when I asked, they said theirs were held in stasis as well. I havenāt received a response from her yet, so maybe Iāll send a follow-up this week. I donāt know. Iād just really like to know where exactly Iām at in this class currently and not be surprised by a bad grade because of some thing stupid that could have been avoided had I known about it.
TL;DR: I have this one online async professor who is disengaged and ridiculously slow to grade (seems picky about what to grade as well) with grades pending since September. The class is boring, with little to no interaction or feedback. The lack of effort and transparency is frustrating, especially compared to past professors, and Iād just like to know how Iām doing in the class. The professor seems unresponsive.
