I'll preface this by saying, I love my 12v setup. It's great having refrigeration on hand, to where I don't have to really worry about keeping my things cold and fresh while out on the trails. This is not to belittle folks who spent mega bucks on 12v/solafridge setups, because, I am one of you and I have no ragrets.
But ok, I been thinking about this ever since I went on a trip with a mate of mine a couple of weeks ago. Mate just had an esky, and I think he was at least as, if not more readily able to produce cold drinks and fresh sandwich ingredients than I was.
Comparing the cost of my fridge(s):
- DC-DC charger $350
- Battery $270
- Solar panel $180
- Wiring $50
- Fridge #1 $500
- Fridge #2 $450
- Total ~ $1800 + however much of my own time I spent installing and wiring everything
- esky ~ bout $350
- Total ~ bout $350
The only specific scenario I think a fridge is necessary, is long trips through remote areas, where you can't be sure when you'll next be able to get ice. And even then - I've done a long trip through central Australia. Aside from when I was actually in the Simpson Desert, I don't think I was ever more than a days drive away from somewhere I could get ice. And I reckon pretty much everywhere you'd consider going for a weekend or even week+ long outdoor holiday, you will be able to get ice without too much of an issue.
Meanwhile it seems everyone I talk to wants to install a hectic 12v setup to run a fridge. Seems like the main winners are BCF and 4wdSupacentre.

Normally when I type my hands are floating, and just use my palm rest to rest my hands. But while gaming, I sometimes find myself resting my left hand palm on the palm rest. Should I normally keep my left hand floating, or is it fine to have it resting. Also, should I be using arm rests as well? Normally I keep my right hand on mouse and my right arm is slightly floating above my desk when I am moving my mouse, and my hand rests on the desk when it is not moving.

My husband told me tonight that he misses when I did nice things for him. I admit that I used to like superclean the house while he was at work or order him surprises. But what now? We have an 8 month old little boy, I work full time and am a full time student. My husband has several WFH jobs, and his own 5050 custody two boys. My only days off (Wednesday and Saturday) I spend the entire days cleaning the house because nobody can bother to do any chores or pick up after themselves, and when I am done with that I take care of the baby and do homework. I literally have no time to think of nice things to do. I am so frustrated 99% of the time that I come home and know exactly what every single person ate and drank all day because the evidence is everywhere, every single cabinet will be open because nobody can bother to close them behind themselves.... what the fuck am I supposed to do when I feel so underappreciated? He says he feels underappreciat3d but his days off (two consecutive weekend days) are spent printing 3d shit and playing video games, not picking up shit ever.

I’m looking to have Home Assistant run different color schemes on my WLED/Govee set ups depending on what’s going on (holiday specific themes, Eagles/Phillies colors on game day, etc.) I would ideally like to have a containeVM running a Python script that determines the day’s light scheme, but how do I pass that on to Home Assistant? I was trying with webhooks, but the only solution I could come up with was pretty hacky, involving a bunch of Boolean values that would all be turned off, and different automations and Python scripts to turn on an individual Boolean.
I would like it if I could easily pass a value (e.g. a number 1-5) to a variable and then I could make a single automation that could read the variable and choose the appropriate color scheme.

2024.11.25 04:57 OverRatedProgrammer Shutdown now can't mount external drives
For some reason my new plex server was indirect only, so I just shutdown, booted.
This was when I was still trying to use automount, but I saw they just mounted to successive numbers instead of the previous mounting location. /run/media/void/Name, instead to /run/media/void/Name1.. so I got rid of automount like I did years ago because I couldn't ever get it working either to go back to just manually mounting the drives to /run/media/void/Name on every startup.
Except now I cannot mount 2/3 drives.. if I sudo mount them, it's read only, only readable by root. And I cannot change the permissions of any file or the drive.
Attempting to mount on user gives error "Failed to Mount Error mounting /dev/sdb1 at /run/media/void/Name2: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock, on /dev/sdb1, missing codepage or helper program, or other error."
I have no idea what I did wrong.. but I hope I didn't fuck up the drives.. I'm still finishing up setting up this new server and in the middle of moving around data, these two drives are backups of eachother..
