2024.11.25 05:31 protectedneck This Thanksgiving, I am begging you to try an upside-down turkey
I have made an upside-down turkey every year for Thanksgiving for the past four years and it has worked out beautifully every time. I learned about this technique from Food Wishes on youtube. The video is easy to follow and explains the method.
The basic idea is that you put the turkey in a roasting pan with the breast side facing down. It can be resting on bread (to serve as dressing) or on a roasting rack. The legs and thighs are up in the air while the breast meat is insulated and cooks slower. You can even cook at high temps like 450 degrees that would normally demolish a traditional turkey.
Advantages of the fast upside-down turkey:

2024.11.25 05:31 josephdiaz81 Leilah’s Sweet 16: A Heartbreaking Experience of being frauded by Farid with Infinite Moments
Leilah was born in November 2008, and we planned her Sweet 16 celebration for November 16, 2024. It was canceled hours before the event due to a “fire inspection” that we found out was a lie. He never paid the venue operator and had canceled the food order weeks prior. The previous year we had to postpone her quinceañera due to the devastating loss of her grandfather on her mothers side and grandmother on her fathers side.
We are trying to raise funds after being canceled hours before the event with no refund. With thanksgiving and the holidays here it is especially harder. Additionally the holidays restrict the schedule, the only day we can do a makeup celebration would be December 7, but due to the last minute notice, we cannot find a venue that is within a reasonable price. We opened a GoFundMe to try to obtain the required funds https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-make-joseph-diazs-daughters-sweet-16-special. We thank everyone for listening. Anyone interested please DM me and I will gladly share all the documentation I have. The contract, receipts, Demand for refund, email correspondence, text messages and phone records. I have full transparency with anyone interested.
My Experience
From the start, this day meant everything to Leilah. After the difficult year our family had endured—the loss of her grandfather on her mothers side in February 2023 and her grandmother on her fathers side in April 2023—we decided to postpone her quinceañera celebration to give her the celebration she deserved. Leilah was incredibly understanding, and as parents, we wanted to make sure we could fulfill her dream of a perfect celebration.
We saved up, worked hard, and selected a venue and catering through Infinite Moments, operated by Farid. Everything seemed on track. We first began messaging Farid in June and met with him a month later. By August, we had officially scheduled the event for November 16, 2024, at a hall in Montebello, CA. The venue also operates as an elementary school, which made us feel more confident about the space.
The package we selected seemed like a great deal—it included a DJ, bartender, cake, and a customized catering menu featuring Leilah’s favorite foods, after we attended a food tasting in late August or early September. In October, we paid off the balance after being offered a discount. Everything was in place, and we were excited for the big day.
The week before the event, on November 9, 2024, we met with Farid at the venue to finalize the details. My wife was texting him the night before about the party bus. Everything was perfect. Then, at 12:38 AM on November 16, 2024, hours before the event, we received a devastating text from Farid. He claimed that the fire department had conducted a random inspection and determined the venue was unsafe for events. He mentioned that he was calling other venues to find an alternative.
This news was impossible to process in the middle of the night. We were exhausted, stressed, and feeling desperate. My wife and daughter had nail and hair appointments scheduled for 5:00 AM, so despite the situation, we decided to go ahead with the appointments hoping he would find a venue. At 5:33 AM, we received a follow-up text from Farid saying that he could not find another venue and that he would refund us the money we had paid, as well as the non-refundable expenses incurred due to the last-minute cancellation.
During our exchange that morning, Farid mentioned we would receive the refund by 3:00 PM that day, but by the end of the day, no refund had come through. Instead, we were told he was in the process of transferring funds. With no time left to plan anything else, we asked if we could at least have the party bus for the day. We were given the go-ahead.
So, instead of the celebration we’d planned, Leilah spent her Sweet 16 in her dress, taking photos, getting Starbucks, and eating at Olive Garden. We walked through Stonewood Mall, where a few excited girls asked for pictures, thrilled to meet a "princess." But the day ended with her dream celebration crushed. It was devastating for Leilah, and she felt embarrassed, worrying about what her friends thought. She had attended a couple of her friends’ Sweet 16s and now hers was ruined.
As a father, it was one of the hardest moments of my life. I felt completely helpless. There was nothing I could do to fix it, and watching my daughter’s dream day fall apart was horrible. It was a day meant to be filled with joy and celebration, but instead, it became a painful memory that we will never forget.
After receiving no refund and vague responses from Farid, we continued to feel completely let down. Despite everything that had happened, we still had everything we needed for a celebration, and Leilah was still determined to have a special day. My wife and I began discussing the possibility of rescheduling the celebration for December 7, 2024, still believing that the fire department had truly shut down the event.
The next morning Sunday, November 17, 2024, Farid hadn't reached out to us, so at 12:48 PM, I called Farid to get an update and ask if we could reschedule the event for a different venue. He didn’t answer, so I left a voicemail. He responded via text saying he would call me back that evening or on Monday morning. The next morning, Monday, November 18, Farid never called. I starting calling Farid starting at 12:00 PM but received no answer. Around 1:00 PM, he texted me saying he would call me at 3:00 PM. When he called, he explained that he couldn’t find other venues on Monday because they were all closed. I told him to communicate with me regularly and update me daily, even if there was no progress. He agreed to call me in the morning with an update.
Tuesday, November 19, Farid did not call or text me. I texted him multiple times in a group chat with my wife, starting at 2:00 PM, but by 8:00 PM, I had still received no response. Frustrated, I emailed him a demand for a refund letter at 8:42 PM. Even though I am the victim it was recommended that I give him 7 days from the date of the letter to pay, so I demanded payment by Wednesday November 27, 2024. The amount demanded included the contracted amount plus itemized expenses that we incurred and could not get refunds for. He immediately replied, stating that we would receive a refund of the contracted amount in 30 business days, which would bring us to January. He had promised us a refund including expenses on Saturday the day of the cancelation and now 4 days later he is saying 30 business days and contracted amount only! With weekends and holidays factored in, this means we wouldn’t have any resolution until well after the holidays, making it impossible to reschedule the event for Leilah.
This is especially devastating as it not only devastated my daughter, but it now impacts our holiday plans and Christmas. What was supposed to be a joyous occasion for our daughter has turned into a nightmare, leaving us with nothing but broken promises and a ruined celebration.
Not fully believing the story about a surprise fire department inspection in the middle of the night, my wife and I began to investigate further. We knew from the food tasting event that the bartender was associated with the venue, so my wife reached out to her directly. The bartender gave her the contact information for the person who runs the hall.
When my wife explained what had happened, the bartender shared that Farid had not paid some of the bartenders he had worked with in the past. Was this a pattern? We didn’t know for sure, but the lack of transparency and the vague responses we were getting made us more suspicious.
At this point, we started to wonder if we were not the only ones who had been taken advantage of. Was this an isolated incident, or was there a history of failed events and broken promises? We were determined to find out the truth.
On Wednesday, November 20, 2024, I called the hall operator directly. She answered, and explained what happened and asked her about the surprise fire department inspection Farid had mentioned. I was aware that the Hall also has an elementary school operating at the same address, so a surprise inspection in the middle of the night would certainly raise some red flags. The operator responded firmly, saying that absolutely no such inspection had taken place, as the fire department doesn’t conduct surprise inspections in the middle of the night.
She went on to tell me that Farid owes her money and the venue we had contracted wasn’t even ready for an event. The bathrooms were still under construction. But the most alarming revelation came next: Farid had never paid her for the venue or the food. We had already paid the full amount—everything was settled months ago.
She then told me that she had actually asked Farid for our phone number so she could call us directly, but he had refused. It was obvious that Farid’s story didn’t add up and we were being misled at every turn. We ended the call shortly after, still processing the shocking details.
Not long after that conversation, I received a text from Farid. He claimed that we would receive a partial refund by the weekend and added an intimidating message: “Understand that defamation isn’t a good thing either.” This only confirmed to us that Farid knew he was in the wrong and was now trying to intimidate us into silence.
At this point, alarm bells were ringing. The lies, the intimidation, and the lack of any resolution made it clear that something wasn’t right. The more we thought about it, the more we suspected that Farid’s behavior wasn’t just a one-off mistake—it looked like a pattern. It feels like fraud. He charged for an event that he never actually organized. I called Montebello Police Department, however they said the cannot take a report as it is a civil matter. This feels criminal though. It is fraud.
So, we decided to dig deeper. We started researching Farid and Infinite Moments online. What we found left us stunned and heartbroken. We discovered multiple lawsuits from this year alone, each one describing eerily similar situations to ours: last-minute cancellations, broken promises, and people being left without refunds after paying thousands of dollars for events that never happened.
On Saturday, November 23, 2024, I received a call from the hall operator. She explained that she was being shown a review written by a young woman who had booked her event with Farid for the following week. This woman had become aware of the issues when the photographer included in her package refused to take photos because he hadn’t been paid for past work. Now, Farid was non-responsive to her as well. I was asked to would take the post down, explaining that she worked hard for her business and that, like us, she was also a victim in this situation, as Farid had not paid her either. She mentioned that Farid had double-booked her venue, and now she was dealing with the fallout.
During the conversation, she mentioned something that further raised my suspicions, Farid had canceled our food order, claiming he found a cheaper option elsewhere. This was alarming because our food tasting had been done at the hall with the operator present, and we had finalized our menu. Why would Farid cancel the food order unless it was part of the larger scam? It didn't make sense. The only plausible explanation was that he had never intended to pay for the services he promised us.
I told her honestly that I didn’t trust anyone connected to Farid anymore. She had been present during our food and cake tastings, and she had witnessed first-hand most of our meetings. I made it clear that we would not be taking down our post until we received a full refund including expenses. I also advised her to cut ties with Farid immediately and urged her to document everything that had happened. I told her that, at a minimum, she should report it to the authorities. These were clear patterns of fraud, and now that she was aware of them, if she chose to remain silent or do nothing, she would be complicit.
As we continued to talk, it became clear that despite being a victim of Farid's behavior herself she was still working with him. I don’t doubt that the vendors were also being taken advantage of by Farid, However her handling of the situation and her ongoing relationship with him made me question her role in all of this. She was now aware of his actions, and yet, she had not taken steps to distance herself from him or hold him accountable. That is why I plan on asking her to submit in writing a declaration stating that Farid had never paid her for the venue and confirming the details of our canceled food order.
It was clear to us now: this was not just a bad business practice—it was a scam.
We don’t know what to do now. The emotional damage feels irreparable. How do we explain to our daughter that her once-in-a-lifetime day isn’t happening? This isn’t just about the money—it’s about a moment in her life we can never recreate. We’ll never get the chance to see her light up as she walks into a room filled with love and laughter, surrounded by the people who care for her most. That memory, which should have been hers to hold onto forever, was stolen from her. Most likely, we won’t get our money back. In an attempt to still give Leilah the celebration she deserves, we started a fund raiser, but we are doubtful this will help and she is embarrassed by it.
At this point, we feel helpless but determined. We don’t know if we’ll ever get our money back—especially with the active litigation against Farid—but we refuse to let this injustice stand without raising our voices.
We urge anyone who has been affected by Farid and Infinite Moments to come forward and share their story. This man needs to be held accountable for the emotional and financial damage he has caused. Our daughter’s once-in-a-lifetime day was stolen from her, and we won’t rest until justice is served.
Please, share this story. Let the world know what is happening and help us stop Farid from taking advantage of other families in the future. No one should ever have to go through this.

2024.11.25 05:31 non523 FLIR C5 fully discharged, now cannot power on (lost original adapter and cable, others not working)
Hello,
I was using my C5 this morning, and ran it down from 15% down to full discharge (below 1%), and have not been able to get it to power back on. I've tried multiple chargers and multiple cables- without luck.
Is there a trick to it? Do I just need to plug it in, and let it sit on its black off screen for a bunch of hours, and it might just come back to life?
Do I need to hold the two buttons together to get it to power on? (tried holding the power button for several variations of lengths)
Or am I going to need to take it apart, and unplug the battery to get it to power on? Something else?
Its just out of warranty, and I am unable to "just buy a new one" currently.
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!

2024.11.25 05:31 tonysolobruhbruh Looking for animes that are similar to yorknew city arc.
Yo. question for people who really like yorknew city and also know other animes. I'm looking for something stylish, fast-paced, high stakes, and showing multiple storylines with characters that have unique motivations, AND they are all entertaining to watch. I know i'm asking for a lot lol. The only other animes ive seen are vinland saga, jujutsu kaisen, and attack on titan.
I will say that the one other thing I watched that for some reason scratched this itch that i have was Gojo's Past arc in jujutsu kaisen.
Please recommend me things because I have a void in my heart right now!!

Comparison is equally as useful as it is harmful to your transition. Finding someone online that looks similar to you and further along in their transition can be so uplifting, providing a useful indication of what to expect. This comparison can be just as harmful if you begin measuring the “success” of your transition to someone else’s journey. I say “success” as this is such a subjective benchmark that is for you to decide. Everyone’s transition is different, just because you’re not seeing the results you’re expecting at 6 months does not mean you will never achieve them. This feeling is further compounded by comparing yourself to others. Please be kind to yourself, you got this 🏳️⚧️ submitted by LilLilithFireHawk to lgbt [link] [comments] |
