2024.11.25 06:40 Ambitious_Tadpole378 Having trouble controlling my anger

This isn't something I would usually do, but I've hit a breaking point and need some advice. For about 9 years now, my ability to control my emotions has been declining. Situations that I would've been able to brush off now ruin my day. It has led to me having what seems to be manic episodes, self-harming, and worst of all, hurting the people that I care about. Anytime I get sad I get angry. Any time I get overwhelmed I get angry. You would think it's the only thing I can feel now. I can not do it any longer. I've tried making an effort to get a handle on this. I have hobbies, I've learned to separate myself when I am feeling overstimulated, and try to explain what I'm feeling to others. While this is great, there are days that I relapse into the same old habits. Take today for example. The girl I am seeing (god I love this woman) said something that I was really offended by as it hit a little too close to home. She was not trying to hurt me in any sense, but before I even thought I said something that hurt her feelings. I immediately apologized and was so ashamed of what I had just done. She walked away without saying a word and my heart sunk through my feet. Almost immediately I became very upset with myself. "F****** Idiot. Why would you do that?? You're ruining everything.". As if the emotions were feeding themselves, self-critical thoughts became deadly ideations. Thankfully I was able to talk to her and give a sincere apology for my actions and try to explain what was going through my head. She forgave me and reassured me that this was something we would figure out together. I'm very grateful, but something has to change. This has affected my relationships with others and myself. I want to be happy. If you guys have any advice it would be greatly appreciated. Hope everyone is well.
